Exercise vs surgery for large rotator cuff tears with Jared Powell
In this episode, Jared Powell discusses a research review which he has done for Physio Network, based on a systematic review of large to massive rotator cuff tears and how an exercise group compared to a surgical group. We dive deep into what the study involves, its limitations and it’s results. #70 - The Female Athlete: What Physios Need to Know
In this episode with Dr Jane Thornton we discuss what the latest evidence says about adapting training advice for the menstrual cycle of women and oral contraceptives and whether the menstrual cycle affects injury risk. We also cover the role of sleep and injury risk, and how this can be affected across the lifespan for women specifically due to hormones. Dr. Thornton is a Canadian Research Chair and Clinician Scientist specialising in long-term athlete health, female athlete health, and physical activity in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, with cross appointments in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and School of Kinesiology. #65 - Differential diagnosis of cervicogenic headaches & dizziness with Dr Julia Treleaven
In this episode, Dr Julia Treleaven covers how we might differentiate between cervicogenic headaches and dizziness. We then cover how to treat cervicogenic pain, headaches and dizziness using sensorimotor tasks that go beyond traditional physiotherapy. Julia is a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Queensland. She has been researching neck pain since 2000 and in 2004 completed her PhD focusing on the influence of the neck on sensorimotor control.
