How To Embrace Heartbreak, Alchemize Emotions, And Harness Vulnerability, with Allie Michelle

Feeling your feelings is hard work. But it's worthy work if you want to live a full life...and we can do hard things. We all have an ever-evolving relationship with our emotions: Some of us dive headfirst into heartbreak, some avoid the discomfort of grief, some are just learning to process difficult past traumas, and others show us the beauty of how to alchemize our experiences into vulnerable words and art. Today, we are talking to the wise, talented, and incredibly lovely Allie Michelle, who captures the depths of human emotion through her beautiful writing and spoken word. It can feel overwhelming to be a sensitive empath in the world today, but our sensitivity is our superpower, and our grief is just a representation of how deeply we love. As put so beautifully by our guest, this episode will help us all “find the strength it takes to be soft.”Allie is a 3x Best-selling author and spoken word artist. She's one of my favourite poets of all time, and her new fantasy novel, Legends of Lemuria, comes out this February on Thought Catalog! She  runs Pen 2 Publish, a program to help writers create, publish and market their books. Allie co-founded a community for mental health and wellness called We Are Warriors, and she's also a certified meditation, breathwork and yoga teacher.Tune in as we chat about:Feeling deeply without being consumed by itUnhealthy VS healthy empathy, and navigating life as sensitive soulsHow to actively process pain and difficult emotionsInner child workThe power of embracing heartbreakUsing fear as a positive compass VS a deterrentFinding your voice as a storytellerAllie's hot take on writer's blockShowing up as your most raw, unmasked selfThe art of really breathing"Break my heartbreak it so wide openthat the whole worldcan fit in between the pieces."  — Allie MichellePre-order Allie's book, Legends of LemuriaFollow Allie on InstagramFollow Allie on TikTokWatch Allie's live performance of her poem shared in this episode. This show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler , Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Your dream life happens by design, but most of us don't even create the space to dream of what we really want. And the purpose of manifesting and delusional thinking is to imagine our ideal reality, and then integrate that vision and the actions we need to take to get there into our subconscious beliefs and daily habits. This year, we’re dreaming bigger than daily water intake and step counts. Introducing Season 3: A New Direction For Teach Me How To Adult

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome back to Season 3! Allow me to reintroduce myself as your host, on a constant quest to level up my adulting, Gillian Berner. Just like last season, I’ll be bringing you in-depth guest interviews and quickie episodes every Wednesday, and quick hits that you might’ve missed to start your week each Monday. We'll be talking all things communication, relationships, sex, mental health, manifesting, career moves, mindfulness, money management, and hacking our health and wellness. But this season, I'm approaching it all through my own unique lens of non-linear, unconventional adulting. Because there's more than one way to adult, and more than ever, our generation is zig-zagging their way to new versions of success and happiness. We're in an era that affords us so many options for how we can move through life: We have empowerment and autonomy to pursue whatever the fuck we want, on our own timelines. But sometimes that can feel isolating, and comparison can get the best of us. So I’m devoting Season 3 to having more conversations about how we can do it our way, finding our own versions of success, and celebrating the unconventional milestones that deserve more recognition. I’m so excited to create this season with you all, and I want to hear from you about what you're going through, and what you'd like to learn more about. So DM me with any topics, or send me a voice note with a question or challenge you're facing to be featured in an upcoming episode. Thanks for joining me on the journey. How To Go Sober-Curious For The Holidays And Set Boundaries With Booze | Re-Release

The holidays can trigger a lot of unhealthy drinking patterns, especially if you've been exploring the sober-curious life, or setting more concrete boundaries around your alcohol consumption. How do you stick with it and create a new relationship with booze? In this re-release, we throw it back to a deep, hard (and hella vulnerable) look at our relationship with alcohol, and bring you along for the ride as we reevaluate how to move forward with booze.  We’re not here to convince you to quit drinking — we love ourselves a boozy night out as much as the next queen, but while we aspire to age like a fine wine, our former drinking habits have not aged well, and getting drunk definitely isn’t serving us in our 30s. This is a choose your own adventure, because we’re leaving labels — along with getting blackout — behind us. Whether you’ve been sober-curious, or you just want to live a more balanced life, you don’t need to label yourself as a drinker or non-drinker: it's just about exploring your relationship with alcohol mindfully, getting self-aware and honest with yourself, and setting boundaries around drinking when you need to in any situation. If you’re curious about what a more mindful relationship with alcohol looks like, grab a glass of your favorite bevy and tune in as we chat about: Why drinking is so embedded in our cultureThe mental and physical impacts of boozeCailyn’s journey to a more sober-curious lifeGill’s journey to drinking more mindfully and intentionallyUnderstanding the “why” behind your drinking habitsUncovering your drinking triggersFiguring out what type of booze works best for you (Byeee tequila shots!)Setting clear boundaries with yourself and othersDealing with the social pressure to drinkOur favourite alcohol-free activities (that are still maximum fun)Science-backed tips for dealing with hangoversWe hope this episode helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationship with alcohol, no matter what journey you’re on!
