How to stay calm in times of big emotions | Guest: Dr. Jody Carrington

Get ready for a jam-packed episode full of light bulb moments with, its funny, loud, and extremely informative. Get your note pad ready cause you want to take notes on - Emotional regulation, Trauma, you are wired for hard times! I talked with my special guest Dr. Jody, she is a dynamic speaker, with so much passion and loads of powerful messages. She talks about emotional regulation, “how to stay calm in times of big emotion”. How to manage our emotions we when are losing our mind. Due to our unique wiring, we tend to lose our minds much quicker and have a hard time managing our emotions.  She gives a few tips on how to manage our emotions (name it to tame it) and also how to teach it to our children. We also talked about trauma and the impact on the neurodiverse brain. She talks about the 10 experiences that could cause trauma before the age of 18 and how it can affect you in adulthood. This portion of the episode is a must listen to. Be sure to listen to the end as she has a very important message for adults with ADHD. You will want to listen to this episode a few times, it is that informative and engaging. How to stay calm in times of big emotion About Dr. Jody Carrington: Over the past 15 years, Dr. Jody Carrington has assessed, treated, educated, and empowered some of our most vulnerable and precious souls on the planet. She is a child psychologist by trade, but Jody rarely treats kids. The answer lies, she believes, in the people who hold them. Especially when kids have experienced trauma, that’s when they need big people the most. Some of her favorites include educators, parents, first responders, and foster parents. Jody has shifted the way they think and feel about the holy work that they do. Before Jody started her own practice and speaking across the country, she worked at the Alberta Children’s Hospital on the inpatient and day treatment units where she held families with some of the difficult stories. They taught her the most important lesson: we are wired to do hard things. We can handle those hard things so much easier when we remember this: we are wired for connection. This all started when Jody received her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Alberta. She completed a year-long internship with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during that time and worked alongside families struggling with chronic illness at the Ronald McDonald House. She received her Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Regina and completed her Ph.D. there as well, before completing her residency in Nova Scotia. Her first book, Kids These Days: A Game Plan for (Re)Connecting with those we Teach, Lead & Love, came out in 2019 and sold 20,000 copies in just three months. It is now on Amazon’s Best Sellers List. Neurodiversity Career Platform | Guest: Alex Corner

In this episode I talk to the founder of Alex Corner, Founder of Amforus.com, “The World's First Platform Connecting Talented Candidates with Dyslexia, ADHD, or Autism With Inclusive Companies That Assess Skills, Experience and Not Education, or Interview Techniques.” Alex shares his personal story of his late in life diagnosis of ADHD and saw the opportunity to create a career platform for job seekers who are neurodiverse and match up with the organizations who are ready to work with their unique skill set. some of the points of this conversation: you can have an even more successful career once you really understand your brain wiring better and how to seek out careers that you are best suited for. What organizations need to do in order to tap into the neurodiverse talent pool, taking a truly inclusive approach during the interview process. Take the time to really understand the candidate and their strengths. about Alex Corner: Alex Corner is a financial services and technology sales, business development executive, entrepreneur, and investor. He started his career on Wall Street and was responsible for managing multiple global businesses using his creative innovative idea to launch some of the most successful revenue-producing platforms. After a 20 year Wall Street career across the UK, Hong Kong, and settling in the USA, Alex transitioned from front office trading into technology, selling digital transformation solutions to multi-cloud environments, event-driven, and streaming data. (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, DaaS) migrating companies to modern architecture. During the decision for a career change, he was diagnosed with adult dyslexia and ADHD, which had prevented him from completing college, and ruled out specific jobs. Fortunately, he was able to rely on experience and network. Reflecting on the experience, he studied hiring techniques, criteria, and behavioral neurodiverse analysis. Watching his son demonstrate creativity, test results ignored and witnessed people who had tremendous coding skills rejected due to poor interview techniques. This got Alex working on solving a problem, how were people without a track record, or exceptional grades, a global network going to secure a job they love without the grades or degree companies required, although they had tremendous talent. – This is why Amforus.com was created.

Character traits of ADHD in the workplace | Co-host - Sherri Cannon

**This is an audio recording of a recent Linked-in Video Post** This content is intended for HR and Team Leaders  When we work with business function leaders to build ADHD literacy, they often want to know how to actually recognize signs of real ADHD versus societal ADHD…so that they can respond with timely, effective strategies or questions.  In this clip, my colleague Sherri Cannon, PCC, and I will share a few facts that can help you better understand ADHD in the workplace.    Did you know  ⇨ Around 8% of the world population has ADHD and has had it since childhood – diagnosed or not.   ⇨ In fact, as we get better at diagnosing kids, more and more adults realize they’ve lived life with a brain they didn’t understand and couldn’t explain to others.   We all can agree that when it comes to inclusion of the mind each person is unique and therefore has a unique set of needs in order to feel engaged and valued in the organization.   Without strategic attention to the neurodiversity of their talent, an organization can easily become home to groupthink, petty internal politics and a sleep-inducing culture of apathy.   Neuroscience breakthroughs of just the past 20 years now enable us to separate fact from fiction and to wisely, compassionately optimize the unique workplace contributions of individuals with ADHD.  #adhd #diversityandinclusion  Connect with Sherri Cannon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sherricannon/  Connect with Cathy Rashidian: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathyrashidian/

Finding your passion does not always equal happiness!

In this episode, I talk about why following your passion or that idea that is so inspiring may not always lead to long term happiness or fulfillment.  If You are at a crossroads to start a new career or business venture, you may be inspired by some ideas and things you have always wanted to do.  I would say take your next few steps carefully.  I often hear "but I thought this new career was the one"  or "the new business I started was going to be a success but, I am struggling" .   One simple step that most of us don't pay attention to is giving enough time and attention to understanding our strengths and what we are really good at.  I go deeper into this concept in this episode.

Is your ADHD brain wiring holding you back at work? | Guest: Sherri Cannon

In this episode, I speak with Executive Coach, and Faculty member of ADD Coach Acadamy, Sherri Cannon.  She shares how she moved from up the corporate ladder from sales to becoming a leadership development Coach/Facilitator in Silicon Valley. Like my previous guests, Sherri was also diagnosed with Adult ADHD late in life. During this episode we talk about: how ADHD can hold you back from reaching your ultimate potential and impact your work/business Understanding what your style of learning is and how you can tap into your strengths so you can succeed at work the importance of actively understanding your brain so that you make it work for you instead of you being reactive to it, especially in times of stress, change and transition How to address the imposter syndrome when it comes to ADHD and how working with the right coach you can remove limiting thoughts that have held you back About Sherri Cannon This is how I became an ADHD coach. In career #1, I was a consumer products sales rep/manager (that’s a classy way of saying I sold soap and fabric softener to grocery stores and loved it). In the second, I traveled the public seminar circuit leading communication and leadership skills workshops around North America. When I developed a love for change management work with business teams, it took me to Silicon Valley, home of fast companies, geeks and a higher than average percentage of neuro-diverse folks. As an Executive Coach and Group Facilitator, I found my people and my calling. About that time, I also got my own ADHD diagnosis. In 2015, I added ADHD coaching to my practice. I’ve found my happy place here — coaching leaders, individual contributors, entrepreneurs, retirees, and career seekers to live more fulfilling lives by understanding and partnering effectively with their unique brain wiring. As you can see from my own path, going toward what calls and interests me has opened new cool doors. As I went through my own ADDCA training, I hoped I’d one day teach others and help them experience the richness and reassurance of this ADHD community.  When ADDCA invited me to join the faculty in 2018, it was the perfect intersection of my love of teaching with my desire to share this wealth with other learners. In 2019, I proudly joined the PAAC Board of Directors as Volunteer Chair and I look forward to starting my PAAC accreditation process in 2020. Benefits of ”Mindful-Tasking” instead of Multitasking

In this episode, I share a recent personal experience on how multitasking caused me a major personal/professional embracement.  It was a great reminder for me to be so mindful of my tasks throughout the day, and ensure I am only doing one task at a time from beginning to the end so that I avoid making errors that not only will cause a personal disappointment but also high jack my brain into a state of stress and anxiety.

Heal your Gut, Optimize your Brain | Guest: Jodie Campbell

In this episode, I talk with Jodie Campbell, Nutrition + Digestive Health Coach about the importance of understanding how your Gut can have a direct impact on the brain.     Did you know that your gut is considered your second brain? We go deep into this conversation, Jodie believes that it all starts with the Gut.   It is one thing to pay attention to our brain but have you considered all the factors that influence it?  I invite you to this very informative talk with Coach Jodie.   About Coach Jodie Campbell Years ago, healing my own digestive system had a massive ripple effect on my whole body. No more migraines, lactose intolerance, IBS, mood swings, poor complexion, sugar cravings, low immunity, PMS, or lack of energy. Of course, it wasn’t an overnight transformation. It started with multiple doctors visits, fear-based media and marketing that manipulated my food choices, and fad diets with a nauseating amount of conflicting advice. What I needed more than anything at the time was someone to shoot it to me straight, someone to actually help! And so instead of looking for her, I became her. I’ve been a Certified Holistic Health Coach for 7 years, with formal training from the Institute of Integrated Nutrition and Nutrition Advisory training for the Sanoviv Medical Institute. Current student at the School for Applied Functional Medicine. Through my ongoing training and deep experiences with hundreds of clients,  I’ve seen firsthand that most people have a compromised digestive tract. With no idea that this is the root source of their frustrating symptoms being experienced throughout their body.   reach out to her on https://jodiecampbell.ca/fixyourguts   follow her on Instagram at @JODIEDCAMPBELL  Follow me on Instagram at ProudlyADHD_coachcathy  or book a discovery call with me to better understand your brain at www.readysetchoose.com
