Episode 232: Julia Kohnen
Julia Kohnen placed 10th at the Olympic Marathon Trials in Atlanta! An unsponsored athlete who works full time at the Panera Bread Corporate offices, Julia trains 100-110 mile weeks and keeps surprising herself in the marathon. The Olympic Trials was only her 5th marathon and she ran a 1.5 minute PR.
Perhaps the craziest part of this story is that Julia didn’t start competitively running until 5 years ago when she was pursuing her masters at the University of Southern Indiana and the Cross Country Coach encouraged her to join the team. Having played soccer for all four years of her undergrad she didn’t think she had eligibility, but since it was a different sport she was able to compete.
She ran her first marathon in 2:47 and has knocked that time down at each attempt to her now PR of 2:30:43. Fun fact- she also got engaged right after the race!
In this episode you will hear about her progression of running as well as race details from Atlanta. This woman has so much ahead of her in her career and I can’t wait to see what she does!!

Episode 228: Sally Kipyego
Sally Kipyego is one to be watching in Atlanta this weekend for the Olympic Marathon Trials! She is fit and ready to compete. Coming off a stellar fall marathon in Berlin where she ran a 2:25, which was a three minute PR. It is exciting to think about what she can do coming off that cycle into this one coming off a trying couple of years post partum and battling some sickness. It feels even more exciting thinking about how fresh her legs may be and how determined her spirit is after the long road back.
Sally is originally from Kenya and came to the US for college where she competed for Texas Tech where she won 9 NCAA titles (3 consecutive in cross country, outdoor 10k + 5k, and indoor 3k and 5k (3 consecutive titles). She then went on to run professionally for Nike with the Oregon Track Club. She holds a silver medal in the World championships in the 10k to Kenyan and went on to win an Olympic silver medal for Kenya the following year in the 10,000m.
Sally debuted the marathon in NYC in 2016, finishing second to Mary Keitany, ahead of third place Molly Huddle. She ran a time of 2:28 and later found out she was 8 weeks pregnant during that marathon. In 2017 she gave birth to her daughter Emma and battled with some major post partum struggles coming back, as well as a bout with Malaria and Pnemonia.
She finally has found her strength back and raced super well this past fall and I can’t wait to see what she can accomplish at the trials this weekend. So much on the horizon for Sally and if you aren’t already following her career- get on it!!

Episode 227: Julie Stackhouse
Julie Stackhouse is a running coach and accomplished runner residing in Jacksonville, FL. When I recently finished the Donna Half Marathon last weekend I met so many runners who are coached by Julie and suggested I interview her! She’s also recent guest, Amanda Napalitano’s coach.
She is an experienced USA Track & Field Levels I, II and III certified coach with Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University, where she was a scholarship track and cross country athlete. She coached at Division I programs across the country collegiately for over a decade before making personal training and wellness coaching a full-time pursuit.
While coaching is her passion, she also still competes herself – with a half marathon PR of 1:16:54. Last year while racing the Donna Half Marathon, she was viciously attacked by a dog and suffered some major post traumatic stress from that event. Although she didn’t really want the attention about what happened, Runner’s World picked up the story. In this episode we talk about moving forward from that event and how she has so bravely faced her fears. She complete the Donna Half marathon again this year and had a team of people lining the street where the attack happened. She completed the race in 1:23:04.
Julie is just one more person involved in the Donna Marathon weekend that I will call a friend and she also shares while this weekend is so important in her own life as well as her Mom battled breast cancer last year. Friends- get this race on your 2021 schedule!
I had some coaching questions we ran out of time to get into so I’m going to have Julie back on for a patreon episode TOMORROW! For those who support the show over there you’ll get access to that episode where we will learn about her coaching philosophy!

Episode 226: Lindsay Flanagan
Lindsay Flanagan was the 5th American to cross the finish line at the Houston Half a few weeks ago in that big sea of American Women. She had a big year in 2019 placing 9th in Boston as the 3rd American and 7th in Chicago as the 3rd American as well. She recently signed with Asics and is living and training in Boulder, CO.
Lindsay is one to be watching at the Olympic Marathon Trials in two weeks in Atlanta! She has a marathon PR of 2:28 and is ready for the hills in Atlanta. She is a true marathoner and favors that distance most.
She ran for the Washington Huskies in college and earned Division 1 All American Honors. Post college she ran with a team in Washington D.C. for Mizzuno and then ran for Nike for a bit. She moved around quite a bit before she landed in Boulder and recently signed with Asics.
You’re going to want to follow Lindsay if you aren’t already and you will hear in this episode that she was such a joy to talk with! Full of energy and optimism and I left the conversation feeling so refreshed and excited for her career!

Episode 225: Natosha Rogers
Natosha Rogers recently won the USATF Cross Country championships and is on a big time comeback! After a couple of breaks from Professional running, she is dedicated to make things happen.
Natosha recently signed with the Hansons Brooks distance group and is training under the Hansons. A little bit about Natosha’s story- in 2012 she won the NCAA title in the 10K and went on to place 2nd in the Olympic Trials that year. Unable to run on the team due to not having the standard, she missed the Olympic dream that year. After taking a break post college, she went on to run for New Balance and had a really great year in 2017, winning the USATF Half Marathon championships and ran a personal record of 15:08 in the 5K.
She took another break in 2018 after an injury and PRP injection on her knees that didn’t go as planned. At that point she wasn’t sure she’d be coming back to running professionally, she took a solo trip to Thailand that I am so inspired by and was working a corporate job until this past year.
When the Hansons showed interest she decided to look into it and now she’s in a happy place chasing big goals with her running, her coach and team. Natosha has had a ton of ups and downs with running and her hardships with the sport have fueled her to pursue her dreams even more. I can’t wait to see what she does in 2020 and beyond!

Episode 224: Kelly Vigil
Kelly Vigil is the woman behind the virtual races that give back – More Miles More Fun! She recently raised over $26,000 for fire relief in Australia with over 2,200 people participating in her race for that.
Kelly works full time in fundraising, is the Mom of two little ones only 15 months apart and just completed her first 50K this past fall. Kelly started running in 2011 and since has completed 25 half marathons, 7 marathons and has a goal of completing a 50 miler. She has a unique story in that her fastest marathon was her first and she is motivated to knock that time of 4:48 down, break four hours AND work towards qualifying for Boston.
I love Kelly’s positive nature and go-getter attitude about tackling what needs to get done. I love the if not now, when and if not me who mentality she seems to carry with her day to day and really hope you all gain as much inspiration from Kelly as I did in this conversation!
