Episode 281: Sara Hall – 2nd Place at the London Marathon, 2:22:01
Sara Hall had an amazing performance at the London Marathon on October 4th – placing 2nd to World Record Holder Brigid Kosgei and outkicking World Champion Ruth Chepngetich. Sara was the first American to cross the finish line and ran a lifetime PR of 2:22:01.
Sara is a returning guest on this podcast- this is her 5th appearance on the show so it’s safe to say she’s a favorite around here! Make sure you check out her other episodes on the show – Episode 11, Bonus Episode Post CIM, Episode 174, and Episode 208 live in NYC.

Episode 280: Leah Falland (O’Connor) – The On Athletics Club: A Fresh New Start
Leah Falland (O’Connor) just joined the brand new On Running team (The On Athletics Club) coached by Dathan Ritzenhein out in Boulder, CO.
Leah ran track and cross-country at Michigan State University and during her time there she won two NCAA titles, was the captain on the 2014 NCAA cross-country national championship team and won over a dozen big ten championship titles.
She went pro right out of college in 2015, running for addidas. The summer of the 2016 Olympic Trials she had a partial tear in her plantar fascia and missed make the team in Steeple Chase. (She was a huge favorite to make that team!) After overcoming a long string of injuries- Leah wrote an article that most of us runners who have ever been injured can find some comfort in – Hey Struggling Runner.
Leah is healthy now- she just got married and she is moving out to Boulder and excited to train with the team. She’s been working with Dathan Ritzenhein as a coach for a couple of years now and credits much of her successes in her path to recovery from injuries and training again to his mentorship and guidance.

Episode 279: Tristan Woodfine – 2:10:51 in London; A Canadian Olympic Standard!
Tristan Woodfine just ran the Olympic Standard for the marathon at the London Marathon this past weekend in a time of 2:10:51. He has quite the marathon progression story- in April, 2018 he ran his second marathon in 2:18:55 at Ottawa Marathon which was a 9 minute PR from his first marathon. He then ran 2:15:19 in Houston January 2019 and a 2:13:16 at the Toronto Marathon in October 2019.
Tristan is a former triathlete who says he doesn’t miss the swim or the bike much at all. I loved hearing about all the changes Tristan made in his training to make sure he was squeezing every last bit out of himself to run the fastest possible marathon. In this episode, Tristan tells all about his progression in the marathon, how he improved his time so much, what his training for the 2:10 marathon looked like, and so much more!
Tristan lives in Opeongo Hills, Canada with his fiance and has his own coaching business as well.

Episode 278: Naomi Mitchell – Huge PR in London – 2:33 Marathon!
Naomi Mitchell ran a 4 minute personal best time at the London Marathon this past weekend for a time of 2:33:23. Her marathon progression is exciting and impressive. She’s only 26 years old and has been putting more serious training into the marathon since 2018. She casually ran some marathons in the speedy times of 2:49-3:01 before she decided to really see what she could do. Last fall in Frankfurt she ran a 2:37 and just a year later took that down to 2:33 from this past weekend!
Naomi works full time as a chartered accountant and trains with the Reading Athletic Club.

Episode 277: Tes Sobomehin Marshall – Founder of Running Nerds, Race Director for The Race
Tes Sobomehin Marshall is the Founder of Running Nerds and Run Social Atlanta and the Race Director for The Race. She is an 8 time marathoner on her way to completing all of the World Marathon Majors. She also has a love for craft beer and dreams of opening a brewery of her own one day.
When Tes started running back in 2010, she found that she was one of very few Black women at races. She wanted to do something about that and right away found out about Black Girls Run. She became a leader and volunteer with Black Girls Run Atlanta (she had a big hand in helping grow that chapter – their FB group has upwards of 20,000 members!). Since then she has started her own race production company and founded a race called “The Race.” The Race which is a half marathon weekend event that supports black-owned businesses, charities, and neighborhoods hosted in Atlanta, GA. The Race just happened this past weekend with huge success as a virtual event.
In this episode we talk about representation of the Black community in the running space and how to make sure leaders in the space make sure that races and events make that a priority. Her big dreams for her race – The Race are inspiring and it’s going to be so cool to continue to see that event flourish and grow.

Episode 276: Howard Lao – Capturing Special Moments on the Track
I was so excited to get the inside scoop on all things track and field photography!
Howard Lao (“How”) is a photographer based in the Pacific Northwest. Born and raised in Portland Oregon, he ran track at Cleveland High School and continued his athletic career by running at the University of Washington.
Howard combines his unique background as a Division 1 athlete with his photography, capturing the essence of athletes and the moments that bring fans closer to the competition. He has provided coverage at events of all calibers from local elementary school events to World Championships (Beijing 2015, Portland 2016, London 2017) & the Olympic Trials.
His work has also appeared in newspaper (The Seattle Times, The Oregonian) and commercially (Nike, Oiselle, Training Journal by Lauren Fleshman).
He has also worked on multiple NIKE SNKRS projects both as a field producer and photographer.

Episode 275: Megan and David Roche – Some Work All Play
Megan and David Roche of Some Work All Play coaching are on the show today and I can’t even begin to describe how much fun they were to record with. What an amazing duo! They are the authors of the popular book “The Happy Runner” and coach dozens of amazing runners around the World. Learn more about Megan and David here:
Megan is the 2016 USATF Trail Runner of the Year at the ultra and sub-ultra distances. She is a five-time national champion, a North American Mountain Running Champion, and a six-time member of Team USA. She graduated from Duke University with a degree in Neuroscience and received her M.D. from Stanford Medical School. At Stanford, she is doing a PhD in epidemiology, focused on population health and genetics for athletes.
Megan started coaching with SWAP in 2016 with the premise that she could help athletes learn to love the process of training, embrace their inner ninja, and recover using a Taco Tuesday approach.
David is the 2014 USATF Trail Runner of the Year at the sub-ultra distance. He is a two-time national champion and three-time member of Team USA. He graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Environmental Science and received a master’s degree and law degree from Duke University.
David started the SWAP team in 2013, with the premise that he could help athletes learn to live like puppies and run like rockstars while not giving a f#ck about things that aren’t important.

Episode 274: Emily Durgin – Dark Sky Distance Under Armour
Emily Durgin is a part of the recently announced Under Armour Dark Sky Distance team in Flagstaff! She ran for the University of Connecticut where she majored in journalism and communications. Post college she spent some time with the New Balance Development group in Boston while nannying full time.
During her time with New Balance Boston she lowered her 10K time, came in second at the Falmouth Road Race and was fifth in the U.S. 5K championship. Soon after she was approached by Stephan Haas from Total Sports Management and landed with a contract with Under Armour out in Flagstaff with this new distance team. The team is coached by both Stephen Haas and Shayla Houlihan. You heard from Shayla on this podcast in episode 270! Emily focuses on the 10k, and recently ran her first half marathon in 72 minutes, taking that time down by a minute just two weeks later to 71 minutes. Long term she does have her sites set on the marathon as well.
Emily’s career is in it’s infancy and the sky is the limit – it is so exciting to see what is ahead for her. We also learn about her first love of dancing, what she’s watching and most recently details on the Sunset Track Meet she competed in.

Episode 273: Andrew Kastor – Coach of the Mammoth Track Club
Andrew Kastor is the head coach for the Mammoth Track Club sponsored by On Running.
Andrew started his own running career at the age of 14 and went on to pursue a degree in Exercise Physiology. While in college, Andrew’s commitment to the sport of running continued to grow, as he competed in cross-country and track, specializing in the middle-distance events.
