Luke, is a Canadian basketball referee from Vancouver, BC whoโs been official since 2016. He aspires to become FIBA certified, get hired into a college conference, and ultimately make officiating a full-time gig. โฃ
โฃ
In this episode of Game Notes, we reverse the format as Luke breaks down one of my block/charge plays from a previous season. We also discuss the fact that we shouldnโt overthink technical fouls and create reasons as to why we should shy away from accessing them. We also add more context to the term โfilm doesnโt lieโ and add an interesting perspective to the true validity of that statement.โฃ

#282 Game Notes w/Branden Gibson | 6-year Official | Beacon, NY

Branden Gibson, Beacon, NY, is a former division 2 basketball player at Dominican College whoโs been official since 2016 on IAABOโs board 114. Heโs currently working at the varsity/Juco level and is looking to be in a regular rotation in the various d2/d3 conferences in the area.โฃ
โฃ
On this episode of Game Notes, Branden had numerous interactions with the coach of Team A so we were able to dissect each conversation and make some adjustments to his approach, which created many communication and game management learning points for our dedicated audience of officials.โฃ
โฃ
One of our main themes when providing an explanation to a coach needs to as follows...before we can talk about the play we need to first assure the coach is communicating respectfully. If not, that becomes way more important than our explanation of the play. That is the leverage that allows us to shift the conversation from play-calling to sportsmanship.โฃ

#280 NFHS Points of Emphasis | Pre Game Card | Join our community on Patreon
The NFHS just the released the Points of Emphasis for the 2022-23 basketball season with the main focus centered around Sportsmanship and respect for the game. Now more than ever officials have the leverage and support to call the rules as written and not allow verbal abuse towards officials or disrespectful behavior amongst opponents. We just need to have the communication and game management skills to execute these rules properly. โฃ
โฃ
The CR Mentor group spent time discussing these points of emphasis and how we can tactically apply the information in our games. We also covered a full pregame conference and listed many points that we think will help you this season and beyond. โฃ

#273 Powered by Positivity | Big Game Officials Camp
This episode is all about mindset, perspective, and the importance of finding your true inner happiness. This was a recent presentation for Sara Woods and the great people from the Big Game Officials Camp in St. Louis. โฃ
โฃ
We covered 4 key traits that can lead to happiness on and off the court: Perspective, Positivity, Passion & Patience. โฃ
โฃ
โขHaving a healthy perspective that is grounded in gratitude will give you the emotional stability to purely appreciate every day as the blessing that it is. โฃ
โฃ
โขLeading with Positivity and optimism as your centerpiece is a winning formula for success. Having an unwavering positive attitude is a superpower that can lead to so many other wonderful things in your life. โฃ
โฃ
โขIf you are passionate about something, that can be the fuel and the driving force that propels you to get to the next level. Passion produces effort. Consistent effort produces results. โฃ
โฃ
โขMaybe the most important and difficult trait is patience. Itโs no coincidence that learning patience takes a very long time. However, patience prevents pain, and frustration, and can lead to higher levels of peace and happiness. โฃ
โฃ
We know this episode will be an UNLOCK and will help at least 1 person. We hope this person is YOU!
