My Thoughts Monday #40-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond- Monitor to Help Training First, Readiness

My Thoughts Monday #39-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond- Monitor to Help Training First
“What I did wrong was how I communicated that, and it was basically taken as we can never do X and Y, so yeah, that was a screw up, and I did that wrong, and it was part of the downfall for it. I think that if we would have kept it to the monitoring heart rate for caloric expenditure to make sure that these guys didn’t wither away in season I think we’d still be doing it, and it’s something that we would have been able to expand upon in a greater positive sense and allow it to continue to move forward, but because I stepped out of my lane and messed it up. I screwed the pooch and ruined it.”This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by GymAware, the leading tool to measure your athlete’s weight room performance. Episode 141-Martin Bingisser, HMMR Media- From The Circle to The Pitch and Back
“That’s the one thing that’s the killer, if you’re athletes get injured it’s not just one step back it’s two-three steps back. A lot of times that can come from overloading athletes or putting to much emphasis on max strength. I think max strength plays a role, it plays a role in every sport, but it’s not that difficult to get, especially over the long term.”Today I have to pleasure of talking training with Martin Bingisser. After a brief intro Martin shares with us his latest project, and that’s training Rugby athletes. We start out discussing his role with the club and some unique challenges it provides. He then shares with us how his work with Bondarchuck impacts how he’s looking at the training, where Anatoliy’s “stuff” fits and where there are challenges in connecting those dots in team sports. Martin then dives into his ideas as it relates to injury prevention/reduction and how important that is in development. Martin then flips the script and talks about how his work in rugby has impacted him as a throws coach and lessons he’s brought back to the circle, and where autonomy with his athletes has helped in both realms. We then talk about his book, the motivation behind it, and what people can expect when they pick it up, and how his stuff at HMMR has changed as he has evolved as a coach. We finish off with a back and fourth on how the podcasts have challenged us to be better. Make sure you check out his site: http://hmmrmedia.com and pick up a copy of his book at the link here: http://www.hmmrmedia.com/store/books/training-talk-conversations-with-a-dozen-master-coaches/ ENJOY THE CONTENT? My Thoughts Monday #38-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond- Let’s Not Make Our Pyramids Trapezoids
“What we don’t know is if building a bigger base is if building a bigger base is actually going to allow the pyramid to be higher, or if all we’re doing is building a bigger base and making it go from a triangle or a pyramid, to a trapezoid.”This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by GymAware, the leading tool to measure your athlete’s weight room performance. Learn more about “The Rolls Royce” of bar velocity monitoring here: https://kinetic.com.au/gymaware.htmlIn this weeks My Thoughts Monday I share a conversation we recently had with our interns about planning and building form the general to the specific. For as long as I’ve been coaching we have looked at it as a triangle or pyramid where we talk about building the base to be able to have a taller peak where the specific occurs. We also, as a profession, discuss how we typically don’t touch the specific because that’s the game. So with that in mind I share an idea we have about how we can look at “specific” slightly differently, and hopefully drive our training a bit better and smoother. ENJOY THE CONTENT? Episode 140-Matt VanDyke, University of Texas- Actually Applying Sport Science
“When I talk with people, with other strength staffs, athletic training, or nutrition, it’s planting little seeds of discussion to kind of grow upon and then we start to tie a lot of our systems in based on their approach to what the end goal is.”Today we are joined by University of Texas, Associate Director of Applied Sports Science, Matt VanDyke. After an overview of where he’s been, his writings, and how he got to Texas Matt dives into how how relationships have driven him in both avenues, both coaching and the sport science realm. We then discuss the role of us as coaches to the profession, and how sharing info is so important to drive us forward. Matt then discusses the challenge the change of positions, from coaching to the applied sport science side, has been and how the transition from doing it all to just forcing on one is allowing him to dive deeper into things. Matt then shares with us some of the data that he’s looking at and how it’s contributing to the training programs for the football players at Texas. We finish off discussing how his time at Denver helped prep him for Texas, and some lessons he’s learned as mistakes at the spots where he’s had to hit the ground running. ENJOY THE CONTENT? Episode 189 My Thoughts Monday #37-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond- Readiness, or Trainability? What’s Our Role?
“If we were looking at their ability to be trained, their trainability, their actual ability to be able to handle and adapt to stress at that present moment. Then is there the possibility that MAYBE their readiness would be at a better state when you need it to be?”This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by GymAware, the leading tool to measure your athlete’s weight room performance. Learn more about “The Rolls Royce” of bar velocity monitoring here: https://kinetic.com.au/gymaware.htmlIn this weeks My Thoughts Monday I follow up on an awesome thread that was on readiness and readiness devices and how important it is. I discuss why I feel like readiness may not be our role, but rather looking at preparedness and trainability ENJOY THE CONTENT?
