Strengthening Your Instructional Design Using Story with Rance Greene
This is the first episode of The Storytelling Playlist, a new series focused on how you can use story and narratives to enhance your instructional design.
Our first guest is Rance Greene from needastory.com. Rance is a Senior Performance Consultant in the healthcare industry, and a current ATD Chapter President in the Dallas area.
Rance has a background in acting, dance, theater, and songwriting - so bringing Story to instructional design was a natural progression and he now has a book coming in April that describes just that.
That book is called Instructional Story Design. We talked to Rance about his book and how he got into storytelling. We also talked specifically about how stories strengthen instructional design, and that included a spontaneous telling of a wonderful narrative you'll hear in this recording, but sidenote: it's better with the illustrations Rance displayed so a YouTube link in the show notes is included below for you to check out.
Give this episode a listen and you'll feel inspired to place more effort into building story into your projects.

Which Industry Certification is Right For You? featuring Deadra Welcome
This is another episode from our Certificates and Certifications Playlist and we're moving on from discussing graduate certificates to industry certifications.
This episode's guest, Deadra Welcome, has half a dozen certificates: The CPLP, the CPTM, a Master Trainer certification from Langevin Learning, just to name some of them.
I invited Deadra as a guest to answer some questions about the value of these certifications. I wanted to know whether or not they were worth getting, which one has been the best for her, and how others should gauge which certification is the right one for them.
And after over a dozen questions from not just me, but our live show audience, I found myself searching out certifications --- after the broadcast was over. Ultimately, if you're putting in the work to better yourself and focus on your professional development, why not have something to show for it?
So I encourage you to give this episode a listen, connect with Deadra on LinkedIn, and think about getting better at what you do --- and set up a strategy to make sure you have a certification to show for it.

Trainers Gonna Train: Cara North and Guests Help You Submit Your Conference Proposals
"Trainers gonna train". That's what I thought of when I logged in to Cara North's TLDCast on conference proposals this last week. Cara included guests Jonathan Rock, Jonathan Hill, and Thomas Sealock in this episode which was all about helping anyone interested in submitting a conference proposal for an industry event. There was lots of activity in this one, and the group did a great job of providing tips to help you get booked as a speaker for an upcoming L&D event. It's always especially fun to watch trainers helping other trainers; it's what TLDC is all about. So check out this episode, it was fun and is worth the listen.

What Is Better For Your Career: Instructional Design Certificate or Masters Degree?
In our first playlist episode on Certificates and Certifications, we had a lot of questions for Christy Tucker about graduate certificates.
Christy is a Learning Experience Design Consultant at Syniad Learning and has done a great deal of research on grad certificates, which she's posted about on her blog.
In fact, when I was researching this topic, Christy's articles came up so many times it only made sense to invite her on to the broadcast.
So the post this conversation is primarily based on, is titled similarly: Instructional Design Certificate or Master's Degree?
You will learn more than you expected in this conversation. Christy answered more than a dozen questions on this topic, and I'd say the one thing that stood out to me is not necessarily the importance of the grad certificate or the Master's degree, but the portfolio you create.
So give this one a listen, if you're interested in this topic, you're sure to enjoy it - Christy was a wonderful guest and you can find her blog at https://www.christytuckerlearning.com/.
