Why Story Works with Theresa Francomacaro
We started a little early with next week's Community Day to talk with Theresa Francomacaro on Why Story Works.
Theresa answered lots of questions on this one including how she helps people with Story, five neurological impulses that are inherent in good stories and specifically why Stories are good for Training.
As you can imagine, the conversation was engaging and fun --- probably because Stories were the subject --- and we shared a few.
Give this one a listen and get prepared for lots more Story and Training content in next week's Community Day celebration.

Extreme Learning Design: Behavior Design featuring Jack Pierce
When Jack Pierce sent in the topic he wanted to discuss "Extreme Learning Design: Behavior Design", I thought it might raise some eyebrows.
And it did.
Jack has been working in training and development for over thirty years and has seen trends in our space come and go. But he's distilled what he's learned into some concepts that he's interested in sharing via Mastermind experiences --- and he went into them in this broadcast.
In today's world of training, learning, and development, it's not enough to simply consider knowledge transfer. Jack believes that behavior change is key, and one of the challenges modern learners face is dealing with the rapid change we're experiencing in our world. And that change produces fear. And not just fear from the learners we serve, but all stakeholders involved.
And Jack wants to produce solutions to help change that.
Give this recording a listen and learn more about Jack and Behavior Design. It's a timely take on a modern challenge that we should all be considering.

Community Discussion: What the Pandemic Taught Us About Remote Learning and Working
We haven't had a Community Discussion in a while, so it was really nice to get back to that format and talk about What the Pandemic Taught Us About Remote Learning and Working.
We also had a special guest, Kayleen Holt of Scissor Tail Creative Services. Kayleen has a somewhat different perspective on how things have changed; she has disabilities. And the pandemic has created a more accessible world for her and others because of the focus on virtual experiences.
We talk about Zoom fatigue, the importance of culture, work-life balance, Adapting to change, the state of the workplace, and how things will never be the same. There was lots of participation by the live audience, so you'll hear some great commentary from them too.

A Sample Size of 1: Living and Working with Autism - A Conversation With Anja Hartleb-Parson
Our guest for this episode is Anja Hartleb-Parson. And if you're a regular TLDC viewer or listener, you know that Anja has been on a few times before, mostly talking about Data Science and L&D.
So it was with great interest when she approached me to discuss this episode, whose title is "A Sample Size of 1: Living and Working with Autism".
This episode has profoundly affected me more than any broadcast TLDC has done. And it's kind of ironic that I didn't know that April is Autism Awareness Month. Because Anja taught me a lot in our conversation, and helped me understand that I have a whole lot to learn about autism. And it wasn't just her, it was also the active participants in chat, most of whom lead lives affected by autism.
It's been a few days now and I haven't stopped thinking about this conversation. I'm grateful to Anja for her willingness to share her story, and for choosing TLDC as a space to discuss it.
And what you'll see from me and TLDC is a summer virtual event that's going to be focused on accessibility and inclusion. If you're interested in helping build the event, message me at luis@thetldc.com.
Please consider autism awareness. Here some links you can learn from:

Bringing Facilitation into the Workflow with Bhakti Karkare
This episode's guest, Bhakti Karkare, likes to say that good facilitation creates magical experiences. But in talking to her, you also learn there's a whole lot of science behind good facilitation too.
In this conversation, Bhakti focuses on discussing her professional passion, facilitation. But what you quickly learn from Bhakti is that it's not just at work that facilitation is important, it's in all of your relationships. And if you are at all interested in being a leader, developing your skills as a facilitator is a key to success.
Facilitation might not be something you spend a lot of time thinking about. But I encourage you to give this episode a listen and give it some thought. I was delightfully surprised at how much it offered me to consider and hopefully it will do the same for you.

7 Ways Your Internal Instructional Design & Training Process is Now Externally Exposed with Trish Uhl and host Christiana Houck
The SEC mandating Human Capital disclosure seems like it should've sent shockwaves through the L&D world, but you wouldn't know it unless you searched for it. This mandate, which went into effect in November of 2020, will have a tremendous impact on our industry, and at the very least, having a working understanding of what it means is important.
And so we're lucky to have Trish Uhl join us for this TLDCast to discuss 7 Ways Your Internal Instructional Design & Training Process is Now Externally Exposed. With host Christiana Houck, Trish also addresses many of Christiana's concerns as a senior L&D Director.
Give the episode a listen, it's definitely something you should know.
