7 Powerful Ways to Overcome Fear and Build the Life You Really Want (#54)
Today, we’re tackling one of the biggest barriers to success for high-achieving women—fear. Whether you're still in your corporate job or you’ve recently taken the leap into entrepreneurship, fear is a powerful force that can hold you back. I’m breaking down 7 practical tips to help you overcome fear and step confidently into the life you deserve.Fear isn’t just about the big moments, like leaving your six-figure career or starting a new business. It shows up in the everyday decisions we make (or don’t make). From being afraid to apply for a promotion to putting off a workout, fear plays a role. But it doesn’t have to.Key Takeaways:Most Fear Is Self-Generated: Fear often stems from our own minds—False Evidence Appearing Real. Once you can recognize self-generated fears, like the fear of going to the gym, you can start to take back control.Embrace Fear and Move Through It: Fear isn’t something to avoid—successful people feel fear, but they push through it. By gradually exposing yourself to fearful situations, like attending networking events, you’ll find it gets easier over time.Rename Fear to Excitement: Fear and excitement feel the same physiologically. By reframing your nervous energy into excitement (especially in situations like public speaking), you can change your mindset and manage your fear more effectively.Name It, Claim It, Reframe It: Use this simple, three-step process to address your fears. Once you’ve named your fear and fully owned it, you can reframe it with a realistic perspective and plan your next move—whether that’s leaving your corporate job or starting a new venture.Understand Fear of Success vs. Failure: Professional women often fear success more than failure. Self-sabotage can prevent you from moving forward, whether that looks like procrastination, overbooking, or stress-eating. Recognize your patterns and work to break them.Fear Can Be Healthy: Fear is also a useful instinct that can guide you to make smarter decisions. Use it to assess risk before making big moves like starting a business or taking on a new project.Fear Is Universal: Everyone experiences fear. The more you normalize it, the more manageable it becomes. Remember that even the most successful people have fears—what sets them apart is their ability to keep moving forward.Support the showAre you ready to make your Empowered Exit™ and break free of corporate? Career vs. Calling: What’s the Difference? And Why is it Important? (#52)
Today, we're diving into the critical question: Do you have a career or a calling? And what’s the difference between the two? This conversation is essential for high-achieving career women, especially those considering leaving their corporate job or making a career change of any sort. We’re unpacking what it means to work for a paycheck versus living your true purpose, and how to know when it’s time to make a pivot.Key Points Covered:Defining Career vs. Calling: A career is typically driven by extrinsic rewards—think higher pay, titles, and promotions. If you’re primarily working for the paycheck and wouldn't do your job without compensation, you’re likely in “career mode.” In contrast, a calling is fueled by intrinsic motivation.Signs You’re in a Career: Do you find yourself striving for the next promotion or more training but feeling unfulfilled? You may be driven by external rewards like salary and status. While this isn't always a bad thing, it becomes problematic when it leads to burnout, dissatisfaction, or a sense of meaninglessness once you reach your career goals.Living Your Calling: If you’re living your calling, there’s a deep alignment between who you are and what you do. Your work feels like an extension of yourself, and you’re passionate about it—often working through challenges with ease.Don’t Know Your Calling Yet?: It’s okay if you haven’t found your calling yet. You have the power to choose. Explore different options, whether it’s a non-profit, writing, volunteering, or something else that resonates with you. Invitation to The Power of the Pivot Workshop: If you’re unsure of your next move, join us for a free, 5-day workshop, The Power of the Pivot, from October 7-11th. This live workshop will guide you through a proven framework to help you make a confident decision about your career and life’s direction. You’ll walk away with clarity and a concrete plan to pursue your calling.Even if you don’t know your calling yet, you have the power to explore and decide. It’s never too late to pivot towards your true purpose.Next Steps:Reflect: Take a moment to assess where you are. Are you in a career or living your calling? How does that make you feel?Join the Workshop: If you're considering a pivot, sign up for The Power of the Pivot workshop today! 4 Hidden Downsides to Reinventing Your Life (#51)
Today we’re diving into the often unspoken challenges of career and life transformations. While reinvention brings joy, fulfillment, and increased purpose, it’s not without its difficulties. Whether you’re in the process of leaving your six-figure corporate career or you’ve already started your entrepreneurial journey, it’s essential to prepare for the uncomfortable realities that come with change. From shifting personal relationships to discovering new challenges once one pain point is resolved, we’ll cover the emotional and mental hurdles you need to be aware of to stay on course.Key Takeaways:Resolving One Issue Can Reveal Another: Reinvention often shifts focus to other areas of your life that may have been neglected. For example, transforming your career can reveal hidden pain points in other areas of life (e.g., relationships, hobbies, faith). While this can feel uncomfortable, addressing these pain points is crucial to building a truly fulfilling life. Not Everyone Will Support Your Growth: As you embark on your journey to leave corporate and live a more authentic life, some people may not understand or support your decision. This reaction often stems from their own insecurities rather than a lack of love for you. I’ll discuss strategies for handling this disappointment. The Importance of Letting Go: You may need to leave behind people or situations that no longer serve you, especially if they’re unsupportive of your transformation. It’s a painful but necessary part of the journey toward reinvention.Prepare for Loneliness: Reinvention can feel lonely and isolating at times, especially when you no longer fit into your old circles but haven’t yet found new ones. Embrace this stage as part of your growth, and seek out supportive communities to help you through. By being prepared for these times of discomfort you’ll be less likely to let them derail your success. Next Steps:Identify Potential Challenges: Take some time to reflect on areas in your life where new challenges may emerge as you reinvent your career. Write these down in your journal so you’re not caught off guard.Evaluate Your Relationships: Consider who in your life may not support your transformation and how you will handle it. Make a plan to distance yourself from negativity while focusing on those who lift you up.Find Your Support System: Reinvention doesn’t have to be a lonely process. Seek out like-minded individuals or communities, such as our Facebook group, Successful Working Women Rocking Reinvention, where you can share your journey and receive encouragement.Support the showAre you ready to make your Empowered Exit™ and break free of corporate? Do you have a goal that you just can't seem to bring to fruition? Maybe you move it forward on your to-do list every month and you're just not sure why you can't seem to achieve this goal. Or maybe you have this underlying dread every time you try to action to reach your goal? It's a common problem and one that I help my clients overcome regularly. In today's episode, I'm breaking down the top 6 reasons why you might be falling short of completing your goals. Key Takeaways: 1) You're Only Making To-Do Lists: Your big goals deserve more attention and focus. A simple to-do list does not allow for sub-task and milestones. 2) You're Procrastinating: Procrastination begets procrastination. The key to overcoming this challenge is to dig deeper and understand why you're procrastinating, so you can address the root cause. 3) You Don't Really Want To Achieve That Goal: Because it's not really your dream. Often, we follow what society says we should do, or others have encouraged, without giving it enough thought. 4) You Have Too Many Goals: When your energy and effort is spread across too many activities, you'll find you make little progress on anything. To combat that I'll share how you can laser focus on your top goals to make more headway. 5) You're Goals Aren't SMART: Sometimes our goals are too vague and by following the SMART process for goal setting, you'll automatically improve the chances of reaching that goal. 6) Perfectionism Is Getting In The Way: You're waiting until you have everything perfect instead of employing the iterate your way to success mentality. Next Steps: Follow the action items I shared to combat the reasons plaguing your goal success. Financial Considerations for Leaving Your Corporate Job (#47)
Are the golden handcuffs of your corporate job preventing you from pursuing a more fulfilling career? Does the idea of investing your money leave you with more questions than answers?Do topics like investment strategies, estate planning, and retirement goals make your head spin? (Never mind insurance analysis or tax planning.) Anna Wolford, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® practitioner and an Associate Financial Advisor at Parallel Financial, is here to help answer your questions and help you think about money with a fresh perspective! Anna takes a holistic approach to your personal and professional needs. We dissect how fear might be holding you back from creating the life you desire, share guidance on how to make a career pivot more easily, and why you need an investment advisor or CFP® professional if you want to increase your returns. Key Takeaways:The Importance of Holistic Financial Planning: When planning your corporate exit or managing your finances, consider all aspects—investments, insurance, goals, and risk tolerance—to make informed decisions.Money is Morally Neutral: Money itself is just a tool, and how we use it determines its value. Breaking down old money mindsets can help shift our perspective. The Downside of Cash Reserves: Sitting on too much cash can have negative consequences due to inflation and other factors. Having an objective partner ensures you strike the right balance for an abundant future. Navigating Fear and Scarcity Mindset: Fear often holds people back from making bold financial moves. Sometimes, creating a ‘manufactured’ scarcity can drive better financial discipline and long-term success.Understanding Different Financial Roles: Knowing the difference between a financial advisor, financial planner, and a certified financial planner (CFP) can help you choose the right professional based on your specific needs. One stat that I mentioned in the show was, people who have an advisor can 2x their returns, but only 35% of people have an advisor. I also found this one on NerdWallet: Working on a financial plan now can potentially increase your retirement savings by 4x in the future. (2024 T.
