Ep20 - Sarah Peyton: Words to Love By
My grandmother used to say, "be sure to taste your words before you spit them out". The problem is, we aren't considering the impact those words or that inner dialogue has on ourselves before it leaves our lips. Imagine if coming from a place of love and kindness started with embracing the source. When I first read Sarah Peyton's book Your Resonant Self, I was shocked at some of the sabotaging self-talk I was using. Bullying myself came with ease due to my own traumas and upsets. To be honest, we're all guilty of it…being hard on ourselves is nothing new. But, self-love isn't just a trend or a hashtag, it's a way of being… IF we have the right tools. And for Sarah, her work as a Certified Trainer of Non-Violent Communication and neuroscience educator, provides us with those tools that can help us better understand the unconscious contracts we make with ourselves. When we do this, we are free to heal and grow. On this week's HIListically Speaking Podcast, get to know your resonant self and what it takes to be kind to your mind. You can learn more about Sarah Peyton, her book Your Resonant Self, and her beautiful work by visiting her website empathybrain.com If you're interested in learning more about how Havening Techniques can help you put the power of emotional well-being in your own hands and be kind to your mind, just visit my website at hilaryrusso.com/havening. Ep19 - Barry Price: Lean In To Love
We tell ourselves a lot of stories about why the right kind of love hasn't entered our lives. To the career driven woman out there, we've whined and wined over a number of them, haven't we? Here are a few of my favs. My success is intimidating to men. There's no good ones left after divorce. I'm "too busy" to date because I'm so career focused. They want the young ones anyway. And the ever so popular…I'm too old for this crap. OK, now that we go that out of our system, let's try something different. Ladies, I get it. But, now, it's time to own it. And do I have the perfect guy for you! Barry Price has been a relationship and dating coach for powerful women since he was 8 years old. You learn a lot when you're sitting at the kitchen table with your single mom, breaking down her dates. Since then, he has been trained as an ICF Coach and by renowned psychotherapist Esther Perel. He has coached thousands of successful women to transform their relationship with themselves in order to create healthy, lasting relationships with the right man. Barry offers a level of male insight coupled with genuine empathy that no other coach offers on your dating & relationship journey. And fellas…he's the bro you wanna know. On this episode of HIListically Speaking, get to know Barry, his mission and what it takes to Lean In To Love. Which coincidentally, is the FREE summit he asked me to be a part of along with 20 other expert speakers. Get ready to Lean in to Love! FREE virtual "Lean In To Love Summit" (Oct 27-29, 2020). Ep18 - Sara Green & Jason West: The Awakened Empath
What does it mean to be an empath? If this question sparks curiosity, it's likely you are one. But, let's dig deeper, shall we? Do you tend to take on the emotions of others as your own? Are you someone people (even strangers) often come to for help and/or advice? Perhaps you have found yourself in narcissistic relationships time and time again. Maybe large crowds feel overwhelming. Does the energy or vibe of the room affect you? You may value alone time as a chance to connect with something higher. Or, like many empaths...you just feel misunderstood. Any and/or all of these are just a few examples of what it could mean to be an empath. If you're still reading, this likely resonates with you. The good thing is, you're not alone. As Super Sensitive Empaths, Sara Green and Jason West can certainly relate. They are co-founders of MetaPhysical Lighthouse. A love-based, non-profit organization founded by psychics and scientists working together to create social change through empathy. Their backgrounds are so different, yet so aligned. This creates the perfect balance for what it means to build bridges instead of walls. Get to know their energy, their karma and their light during our conversation. If you questioned your empath journey or were looking for a greater connection, you may have finally found your way home on this episode of HIListically Speaking. To learn more about Sara, Jason and the Metaphysical Lighthouse, visit their website at metalighthouse.org And if you would like a chance to win a copy of Sara and Jason's book, "MPath: 8 Steps to Illumination", signed by the both of them, visit my Instagram post for this episode for details on entering. Ep17 - Chris Palmore: Finding Gratitude After Loss
If moments of gratitude make up a symphony, then Chris Palmore is the conductor. But finding the light can be difficult after loss. And it certainly didn't happen overnight. In 2015, Chris' mom Laura lost her battle with breast cancer. A few months prior, he was writing her a letter of gratitude. That love note and tremendous loss paved the way for a new way of being. Soon after, this coach and creator of GratitudeSpace not only opened a new door, but his heart; creating a revolutionary movement to change our world and encourage radical acts of gratitude. His first book, "Dear Gratitude: An Anthology," releases Thanksgiving. And most recently, he launched a non-profit that supports Gratitude PopUps booths with a goal of collecting 10,000 gratitude moments. Talk about bumping your party experience up a notch! His podcast GratitudeSpace Radio is a weekly dose of inspiration and I'm grateful to be part of his lineup. In fact, if you click below and listen to that conversation, I have a special gift of gratitude for those who tune in. Ep16 - Bethany Webb: My Guru Cancer
"You have cancer." These are three words an organic-eating wellness-teaching yoga-loving gal like Bethany Webb never thought she would hear. But her boobs were telling her a different story. And after going through every emotion possible, this Yoga Therapist/Mindset Coach went from cancer survivor to cancer thriver. But it wasn't easy. That BS (belief system) can get in the way. You need to check yourself, before you wreck yourself. And Bethany did. Anger, fear and shame turned into excitement, engagement and empowerment. Her book My Guru Cancer is the one she wishes someone had written when she was going through it all. Now, Bethany is living life to the fullest in the mountains of Colorado. And when she's not writing and teaching, you can find her hiking, adventuring, cooking, and thriving! Ep14 - Kimmay Caldwell: More than My Numbers
What is one number you would like to change in your life? I've been asking people that very question all week leading up to this episode. The answers varied. From making more money to losing weight. Wishing you were younger or hoping a loved one lived longer. Some of you even shared numbers that you believe will make a difference in the world. Like increased voter turnout and a decline in COVID cases. You wanted to see less competition and more love. Plant more trees and see less suffering. I also took a moment to think about the question. How can I serve more people as a health coach and holistic practitioner of emotional health and make a bigger impact? Every answer creates the same uneasy feeling. You're either striving for more or hoping for less. And even when you meet a goal, there's always another number right ahead of you. Good lord, why do we do this to ourselves? Cue the personal demons that love to show up and tell us "you are not enough". It's such B.S.! Kimmay Caldwell has been playing the numbers game for years. As a bra fitting expert, hearing the stories women tell themselves in the dressing room gave her an idea. She created "More Than My Numbers" to help women of all ages, shapes and sizes embrace the beauty inside, outside and underneath. But Kimmay has been on her own healing journey. And time is another number that has paved the way for this self-love coach to say "Hurray" in a whole new way. On this week's HIListically Speaking Podcast, celebrate priority number one (hint: that's you) and discover how you can uncover your confidence, stand in your power, and learn to love yourself. Ep13 - Susan Greif: Ancestral Trauma
When is the last time you really sat down and spoke to the older generation in your family? Whether it's a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, we can learn a lot about our lineage if we take time to listen. The trouble is, many families (if not all) face some type of ancestral trauma. And talking about history can stir up major upsets. Sometimes it can even leave family members feeling disconnected and damaged. Susan Greif will be the first one to tell you, intergenerational trauma is real. As the daughter of holocaust survivors, she had her own family relationships that needed mending. And through art, Susan found a way to help others on their healing journeys; not only to get clear, but get to the heart of what could be rotting the very soil of the family tree. As a Creative Transformational Expert specializing in trauma and relationships, Susan's Art Mends Hearts approach uses drawings to help people get to the root of their subconscious minds and notice where they hold their upsets about themselves and family. On this week's HIListically Speaking podcast, she shares her own story of healing and growth and how she's using it to help others bloom where they're planted. Ep12 - Michael C. Bryan: Embracing Your Beautiful Scars
Let's have a nervous breakdown! No, really. Michael C. Bryan said it's OK. In fact, as someone who has faced the demons of childhood abuse and trauma himself, he encourages you to go dark. After all, once we break, what to do you think shines through the darkness? You guess it. How else do you think he became a "ray of freakin' sunshine"? But behind the humor, the glitter and the "tell it like it is" tone, Michael is so much more. The man behind MCBHappier, Inc didn't get there overnight. With over 25 years working as a Special Consultant to the heads of Time Warner, NBCUniversal, Food Network, HBO, CNN and Warner Brothers (just to name a few), this writer, actor and life coach has lived in the shadows. Like, big time. He specializes in high-level achieving individuals and companies who are seeking balance and equilibrium in their lives as they continue to create and expand their already existing accelerating careers. From writing his own award-winning memoir "Creepy Kid", Michael helps his clients embrace their own life story, face the darkness and find the beacon that awaits when you just do the work. If you think this episode is full of rainbows and unicorns, think again. We're getting real and cracking some sh*t open with a side of laughter, love and light. To learn more about Michael C. Ep11 - Brian Michael Smith: Trailblazer, Transgender & Talented
When Brian Michael Smith considers a role, he thinks about the impact it will have on audiences. And being the first out black trans man cast as a series regular on broadcast TV, he knows his art is his advocacy. It was his role as "Toine Wilkins", a transgender police officer on Ava DuVernay's critically acclaimed hit series Queen Sugar that opened doors. It was also a chance for him to come out publicly in the most authentic way possible - through his craft as an actor. He knew his work came with a bigger responsibility and Hollywood noticed. Soon after, came "Pierce Williams" on The L Word: Generation Q and most recently as "Paul Stickland, a transgender male firefighter on 9-1-1 Lonestar. But behind each character is a husband, a son, an advocate and a friend. I met Brian on the set of Daily Burn 365, the live-streaming fitness show that we were cast on in 2015. It wasn't long before you could tell his energy, empathy and engaging personality won hearts - not only with the cast and crew, but the community, as well. On this episode of HIListically Speaking, Brian shares more about life on camera and what it means to stay mindful, be grateful and to "know thyself". For more about Brian, visit www.thebrianmichael.com If you have a great story to tell or just want to connect, I'd love to hear from you. - Hilary HIListically Speaking with Hilary Russo is created/Hosted by Hilary Russo, produced by Alan Seales, with music by Lipbone Redding.
