Podcasting For PR

Podcasting can be for fun or for professional public relations. This podcast delves into the how, the why and everything else in between to get you started on podcasting for public relations. It is an audio extract from a webinar held by Quadriga University in Germany for the Kommunikations Kongress Academy on 13 July 2021, titled Podcast in der Unternehmenskommunikation. The webinar was hosted by Prof. Dr. Ana Adi with Regina Koerner and Monique Zytnik as guests. We would like to thank Quadriga University for letting us share this content with our listeners. Prof. Dr. Ana Adi is a Professor for PR and Corporate Communications at Quadriga University in Berlin. Prof Dr Adi obtained her PhD from the University of the West of Scotland, UK having investigated from a framing perspective the discourses about China, the Olympics and human rights during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games of activist groups, Olympic organizers, international media and online public. Prior to her post at Quadriga University of Applied Sciences, Dr Adi has worked, lived and studied in the USA (with a Fulbright scholarship), Belgium, Bahrain, Thailand and the UK (and traveled far beyond). She is the Chair of the Digital Communication Awards in Berlin since 2015 and a member of the Institute for Public Relations Measurement Commission since 2018. Regina Koerner is the CEO of professional-podcast.com. Since 2019 she has been an enthusiastic and award-winning podcasts producer with focus on strategy consulting, content creation and production for tier one podcast clients such as Handelsblatt, EY, HVB, BCG, iq digital – and Quadriga’s “Women in PR” with Ana Adi. Previously global leadership positions in corporate communications, transformation and PR at e.g. Roland Berger, Kearney, Bertelsmann Foundation and NGOs like FairTrade International. Many years of journalistic experience as executive editor, assignment editor and correspondent at RTL, Voice of Germany and American broadcasters in the US. Monique Zytnik is the Global Employee Communications Subject Matter Expert for Open Communications. She has worked internationally for organisations as diverse as Special Broadcasting Services Australia, ANZ Bank, adjust.com and the Australian Taxation Office. Dr Kendi Guantai on sense of belonging

Have you been hearing the discussions around sense of belonging? Wondered about the actual definition or how it relates to our work as corporate business communicators? Dr Kendi Guantai takes us through some important concepts in this episode and also talks about authenticity. What do you think? Dr Kendi Guantai is an award-winning Communications and Marketing expert at the Leeds University Business School (LUBS), where she manages and teaches post-graduate courses in Corporate Communications and Public Relations. She also designs and delivers business related courses on the Goldman Sachs 10K Women’s Programme and sits on the advisory board of Archetypical, the company behind the simulation game ‘Corporate Snakes and Career Ladders’. Kendi is a Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE) Fellow, researching students’ intersectional lived experiences of authentic self and belonging during their studies, and the impact of these experiences on the student lifecycle. In addition to Sense of Belonging, her current research interests include Authentic Leadership and Public Sector Communications, and she is actively involved in Decolonising initiatives at the University of Leeds. Kendi is the Vice Chair of Leeds ACTS! (Academic Collaboration with the Third Sector) as well as the Chartered Association for Business School’s REAG (Race Equality Working Group). She is a recipient of the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2019) as well as the faculty partnership award for Equality and Inclusion (2021). In 2020, she was recognised as a ‘Local Hero’ by the Leeds City Council for ‘outstanding and tireless services within the local community during the Covid-19 pandemic’.

Today in his day job, he leads communications for the Clean Air sector of Johnson Matthey, a role he moved into in May 2018, following senior communication roles at global giants GSK and EY. Howard has long been passionate about the critical importance of listening for communicators, and by definition for the organisation. Together with colleagues Mike Pounsford and Kevin Ruck, Howard has published two reports on Listening in Communications with a third due to be launch on 13 April 2021, following the completion of a global survey. Howard is currently Past President of the IABC UK & Ireland chapter, having served as President from 2018-20. He also spent nine years as Chairman of Wealdstone FC, a semi-professional football club who currently play at the 5th level of English football. Ana Margarida Ximenes on international connections

Ana Chair of the IABC EMENA region and President, Portugal for Atrevia, Iberia’s largest communication agency. She co-founded Atrevia in 1999, and co-leads Atrevia’s international business development. With more than 20 years of experience, she assists clients in crisis communication, reputation and change management, lobby and public affairs, internal communication, community relations, brand and marketing management working with major category leaders. Ana began her career as a journalist in print, radio and television. She holds a degree in social communication from the Universidade do Minho and a business management degree (PDE) from AESE Business School. In 2009, she became SUEZ group’s youngest ever head of department, aged 28. Naomi has been instrumental in numerous projects during her 11 years at SUEZ, including increasing SUEZ’s media share of voice in the waste management sector from fifth, to first position. In 2015, she project managed the group’s rebranding and repositioning in both the UK and Scandinavia, and has overseen the employee engagement programme resulting in the company being awarded the Sunday Times Best Companies’ ‘Best 25 Big Companies to Work For’ accolade in 2018 and again in 2020, for a predominantly operational and dispersed workforce. Inclusion: Let's talk current trends and gender

What is our role as professional communicators in supporting inclusion? How does our profession measure up? Introduced by Monique Zytnik and facilitated by Gloria Walker, this is a recording of an inclusion and gender focused webinar held on 29 October 2020 featuring Ann-Marie Blake, Alex Malouf and Ana Adi. Our panellists draw on their own personal experiences and recent research including the Women in PR eBook published by Quadriga University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, which has contributions from many of our international IABC Members including Zora Artis, Mike Klein and Sia Papageorgiou. Our facilitator, Gloria Walker, is a highly experienced public relations and communications practitioner with both global in-house and consultancy experience. She has taught at universities in the US, UK and Thailand, has published in professional journals, and has given presentations at professional and academic conferences in the US, UK, Slovenia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Dubai and Turkey. Gloria is currently an adjunct professor in the MA Public Relations programme at the London College of Communication (UAL) and teaches undergraduate business and communications classes at the London campuses of Hult International Business School and Fordham University. She is a Fellow of the UK’s Higher Education Academy and an active member of several professional associations including being the current treasurer of IABC’s EMENA Region board and member of the PRCA Council. Our first panellist, Ann-Marie Blake, is a communications consultant and leadership coach. She has a wealth of experience leading communicators and advising leaders in the world’s largest financial services organisations. Ann-Marie holds Chartered PR Practitioner status and sits on the International Executive Board for IABC. She is also a founder member of PRCA’s Race & Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB) that exists to create both immediate and long-term proportional racial equity within the PR and communications industry. Ann-Marie is based in London. Also with us is former IABC EMENA board member Alex Malouf, a marketing communications executive who has spent the last 17 years in the Middle East. Alex has lived across the region in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. He is the Corporate Communications Director for the Middle East and Africa at Schneider Electric. In his previous corporate communications role at Procter & Gamble, he was responsible for diversity and inclusion. Alex currently based in the United Arab Emirates. Our third panellist is Dr. Ana Adi, Professor of Public Relations and Corporate Communications at Quadriga University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. She is the Chair of the Digital Communication Awards, host of the Women in PR podcast and co-editor of the Women in PR ebook. When not writing about what communicators can learn from protests and social movements, she focuses on mid-term solutions for the professionalization and future-proofing of communicators.
