Stephan is a bitcoiner who reached out to me on twitter to see if I'd be up for having a chat sometime. Dr. Julie Ponesse is a former university professor, and holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, with areas of specialization in ethics and ancient philosophy. In September 2021 she recorded a video, expressing her disagreement and opposition to the vaccine mandates which her university was instituting. Her video was a level-headed, articulate, and informed critique of the validity of vaccine mandates, and as a result, went ‘viral’ online. John Vervaeke is a “Psychology and Cognitive Science Professor, integrating science and spirituality to solve the ‘Meaning Crisis’. I was introduced to his work through his 50-part series ‘Awakening from the Meaning Crisis’, in which John leverages his staggering familiarity and understanding of an enormous amount of the worlds philosophical, psychological, spiritual / religious, and historical literature, combined with his own insights and experiences, to put forward a contribution to the apparent ‘meaning crisis’ which much of the global culture faces today. I not only share John’s conviction that we are currently confronting such a circumstance, but I’ve also been exploring and writing about the role which bitcoin may play in the emergence of a ‘solution’ to that ‘problem’. In this first discussion, we don’t discuss bitcoin at all, but rather focus on identifying what the ‘meaning crisis’ is, and how we might have found ourself in this situation. It’s my hope that this will be the first of several discussions with John, as it seems to me that he has much useful wisdom to share in my journey of attempting to discover and understand ‘deeper meaning’, and what role, if any, bitcoin is to play in it. Nobody Caribou is a bitcoiner who has been on the ground in Ottawa, sharing the TRUTH of what is going on there to the world, via twitter. He has also been helping out in different ways, and discussing the merits of bitcoin with a number of the truckers, which has become especially relevant since GoFundMe refused to release the $9 million that had been raised for their cause. As I've been exploring in this podcast, as well as in my most recent written piece 'Money Messiah: God, Bitcoin, & The Evolution of Consciousness', my quest to understand bitcoin has been leading me to a re-evaluation of some of the most fundamental aspects or components which orient or determine how we experience and engage the world, including things like value, meaning, truth, freedom, love, and several others. These concepts, of course, have also historically been the purview of the 'religious' or 'spiritual' pursuits, and so it seems necessary to delve into that domain, if we wish to see what wisdom or insights might emerge from it, to help us better contextualize the meaning of bitcoin (or both). This particular conversation arose from an exchange on twitter, where it was made clear that this subject was something which we all were interested in exploring further.
