Stone Choir – After Dark – Good vs Evil
The world is a complex place, filled with good and evil – and almost everything in between. The challenge of navigating this is that we are all tempted by something that we want, but ultimately will be our undoing. Christians frame this battle between God and Satan, with humans caught in the struggle to choose. What makes this even more difficult is it is not simply a matter of choice, but also of action. To avoid sin, we must resist its lure, but most, if not all, can without help. This is where faith provides solace, and in the final judgement, salvation. Tonight we are joined by two gentleman who have dedicated the search for what is good in the form of the excellent Stone Choir podcast, which explores many of these fundamental issues, and provides a guide to those who have sought a light in these dark times.

The Evolution of Transportation
Estimates place the amount of the earth’s land area dedicated to buildings and other fixed structures to be no more than 3%. But of that land, nearly half is exclusive to roads and parking structures in some urban areas. This fact, obviously a consequence of the prevalence of the automobile, illustrates the importance of transportation, a key pillar to modern civilization. Connecting people, goods and services has always been important, but as the cost of movement has dropped and the speed has increased, the value of the network has only grown, which Metcalfe defined as proportional to the square of the nodes, or in this case, destinations. As technology pushes us farther and more safely, the era of globalization may very well extend beyond the globe and into the stars.

Stone Choir – Christian Nationalism
In a time of increasing skepticism of globalization, stemming from losses in jobs, cultural heritage, and sovereignty over ones own homeland, nationalism has re-emerged onto the political stage in protest movements and increasingly populist governments. Christian nationalism, focused on the incorporation of church doctrine into a nation and often a sovereign, is not a new concept, stemming at least from the time of the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, but recently has re-emerged as a potential solution to the social ills many societies face in the West. Tonight we are joined by Woe, co-host of the Stone Choir podcast, to make the case for how and why this might be a good way forward for many of the discontented souls of today.

Saudi Arabia and the (End of the) Petrodollar
In 1945 near the end of WWII, US President Franklin Roosevelt, on his way back from the Yalta summit, met on the cruiser USS Quincy in the Suez Canal with Kign Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia. The meeting, prompted by Roosevelt asking how the United States had outlasted the mighty German war machine, was motivated by the fact that American oil resources fueled the enormous military buildout that went on to eclipse not only the production of Germany but also the output of all other Axis countries combined. Thinking ahead to declining American reserves, Roosevelt correctly saw and successful negotiated an alliance between the US and the kingdom that until recently has undergirded not only the industrial world’s need for energy but also America’s need for further legitimization of the US dollar in an era of large budget and trade deficits which came in the form of the ‘petrodollar.’ Growing from a population of fewer than 5 million in 1960 to over 33 million today, the home to Mecca, the birthplace of Mohammed and Islam and the center of the broader Muslim world, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has had mixed success in transitioning from its ancient heritage to the fabulous wealth provided by oil. It’s state oil giant – Saudi Aramco – is the world’s third largest company as measured by market capitalization, at $2 trillion, but looking ahead, with increased calls for a move away from fossil fuels and the rise of China, the kingdom looks to invest in the future while retaining its past, and hopes to maintain its central role, for good or for worse, in Middle Eastern culture and politics.

Someone Has to Say It – Tom Kawczynski
Carl von Clausewitz described war as politics by other means. In many ways the reverse could be said, with the modern state in the West seemingly arrayed against its own citizens in a constant battle of misdirection and interference in their lives. Tom Kawczynski, author of ‘Surviving the Fall of America’ and former town manager of Jackman, Maine, has actually run for political office in an attempt to address some of these problems. Tonight, he gives us an insider glimpse into how the system actually works, what we can expect going forward, and some potential solutions to what he sees an an almost inevitable decline of a once great society.

Sex and the City – Women, Real Estate – After Dark
As a show that has primarily focused on geopolitical history, we at the Myth of the 20th Century have not touched on the subject of women as much as others. But given the importance of women to all societies, and especially those facing declining birth rates, existential ennui, and many other social ills seemingly common throughout the developed world, we thought it appropriate to discuss the topic of women in the workplace. Joined by fellow podcaster from MGTOW Chats and American Sun author Lamprey Milt, we delve into the recent ‘Girl Boss’ phenomenon, as well as unfolding developments in the broader office space world as work from home and interest rate hikes potentially plunge the commercial real estate market into another financial crisis.

Superpower Rivalry in the 21st Century
Soon after the end of the Second World War, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as ‘superpowers’, leaders of the two primary ideological power blocks across the world’s major continents. After nearly 50 years of competition, the United States emerged victorious, and led an unprecedented era of ‘globalization’ for the next 20 years promoting free trade and relatively open labor and capital markets along with democratically elected governments. With the rise of emerging economies such as India, and the success of China’s state-led capitalism and a resurgent Russia opposing NATO expansion, other countries around the world have taken note, however, as to the potential for new global leadership and development models that differ from America’s. Tonight we are joined by Lance, a veteran and host of Lance’s Legion, a military history and philosophy podcast, to discuss the ramifications for major geopolitical power realignment into the 21st century.

Pineapple Imperialism – a History of Hawaii
Viewed as a microcosm of Manifest Destiny beyond the confines of the geographical limits of the continental United States, the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands by the US in the late 19th century marked the beginning of what we now consider the global American Empire. To the Hawaiian peoples, it was a clearly just as if not moreso a historic moment, albeit done for reasons of pragmatic acceptance of their minor power relationship in an ocean surrounded by much larger political and economic forces. The Hawaiian Islands, given their incredible strategic military location in the middle of the Pacific, would inevitably come under the sway of one of the surrounding powers. It was almost always less a question of if, but rather a question of when – and how.

BANKING CRISIS – After Dark
The English word ‘bank’ meaning a depository and lending institution, derives from the Italian word ‘banca’, or ‘bench.’ This belies the origins of modern finance in Renaissance Italy, where deals initially struck at coffee house benches evolved into the great trading and banking houses of the Medicis, where double-entry book keeping enabled the matching of debtors with creditors that spurred the growth of industrial Europe over the coming centuries. Today, with daily capital flows measured in the trillions of dollars enabled by high-speed fiber optics and a global communications network, major decisions happen much more quickly, and because of the levered nature of fractional reserve finance, regional concern can magnify into global contagion faster than an actual pandemic. In the case of last weekend, where Silicon Valley Bank, one of the top-30 global banks went into receivership, the political institutions of the United States were caught off guard, and in an attempt to quell further concerns, went into overdrive this week as the Federal Reserve discount window was opened guaranteeing the assets of all major banks. Not to be outdone, the Swiss National Bank just intervened in the takeover of Credit Suisse, a century and half years old institution, to further halt panic in European markets. Memories of the 2008 financial crisis are on everyone’s mind, and the ripple effects of these events are surely to continue throughout the year.
