# 220: How Building A Personal Brand Landed Me Game Changing Opportunities

[Visibility Series - Part 7] In today's episode, we are talking about personal branding and the steps I have taken to build my brand.  If you're thinking about your career goals and you're ready to fully show up in your career, this is for you!We dive into personal branding: what it means, the different ways you can show up, and how and where you can present yourself to land the new opportunities that you're aiming for.We also cover building relationships with likeminded people with similar interests and how you can use these relationships to build your own brand and show up strategically.  After all, the more you expand your network, the more you open up opportunities for referral. Networking acts like a ripple effect. What you will learn:What it is you want to be known for: Identify what you want to be known for and by what audience. When you are not in the room, who do you want to be talking about you? Be intentional to grow your presence and your impact. The importance of sharing your perspective: One of the biggest pieces around building your personal brand is sharing your perspective. You don’t always have to have ALL the pieces of the puzzle: Be willing to make mistakes, do things, test to see what works for you and what you like. Over time you can refine what it is you're ACTUALLY doing and what you're putting out there.Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 219: You Can Make Your Next Best Career Move Sooner Than You ThinkEpisode 218: Don’t Let The Market Fool You! # 219: You Can Make Your Next Best Career Move Sooner Than You Think

[Visibility Series - Part 6] In today's episode, we are talking about the fact that you can make your next best career move sooner than you probably think. Making a career move isn't just about working hard. It isn't just having your head down, it isn't just doing the work. So often the belief is that your work will speak for itself. You don't want to come across as big headed. You don't want to come across as the person who's always talking about what it is that you've done or what it is you've achieved. You think that if the impact you're creating is clear, then of course you will get promoted and recognised. In an ideal world, yes! That would be how it works, but in the real world it is not. There is an unwritten, unspoken playbook. Many people know that it's there and many people comply with it all and subscribe to it. But the problem is that, for many of us, the playbook has pages and even chapters missing.  And because the pages of the playbook are missing, you don't even realise it.  What will you learn: Stepping out of your comfort zone with confidence - It is imperative that you start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Every season of growth or every stage of growth requires you to become a different version of yourself. If you don’t step outside of your comfort zone, you will never be aware of what you are capable of. Being the CEO of YOUR career - Clearly set out your vision. Where are you trying to get to? And what strategy are you implementing to get there? What are you focusing on? Hiring a career coach can be super helpful in supporting you with your transition. Getting the right support to help you on your journey - So that you can be fully supported in transitioning into the version that you want to become.Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 195: When You Feel Resistance To Change, Keep GoingEpisode 198: Why You Should Frequently Audit Your Own Performance THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CLARITY ACCELERATOR If you are looking for support with finding career clarity so you can relaunch your career with confidence, join this program >> https://www.careerchangemakers.com/ccaSend us a text

# 218: Don’t Let The Market Fool You! People Are Moving Into Amazing Roles In 2023

[Visibility Series - Part 5] In today's episode, I talk about not letting the market fool you! Plenty of people are moving into amazing roles in 2023. And plenty of companies are hiring right now!You may be one of the many people who have been considering making a move for a while. You may be feeling reluctant because the market seems crazy; there’s a lot going on and there's been a lot of movement. Everywhere you look, all you hear about is inflation and recession. You may feel like this isn’t a good time for you to really prioritise your career goals and making the type of move that you ultimately want to make. I see a reluctance to take any action at all because people are equating exploring or preparing for a career move with actually doing it. Those are two very distinct phases. Preparing for a career move and contemplating a career move aren’t the same as handing in your notice and actually leaving a role. There's preparation that has to happen before action and in this podcast, we focus on that preparation piece, because whether you are looking to make a move in the near future, whether in the next three or six months, or whether that isn’t something that’s on the cards for you right now, you should still be looking at how you can prepare yourself for the future. Even if you don’t want to make a move right now, you should be thinking about whether you are prepared for the situation where you have to make a move. Doing your job and doing it well is one part of your career development strategy. There’s also the part where you’re actually thinking about how you're managing your career, your development, your advancement... and those things should be happening all of the time. There’s a quote that I really like, “be ready or stay ready, so that you don’t have to get ready”. And that just means being prepared so that if things happen you’re not caught on the back foot and you actually have put things in place. Visibility is such a key piece of the puzzle when it comes to you positioning yourself for the type of opportunity that you ultimately want. What you may learn:How to be proactive - Building on your skill set and your expertise in a way that will support you in your long term goals. How to articulate your value clearly - If you are struggling with landing interviews and landing offers there's something that’s not right with how you are articulating your experiences. How to make a move now - Leaning in and positioning yourself to be the candidate that lands the career advancing opportunity that you desire, despite what the market may be telling you.Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 216: 3 Easy Ways To Build A Personal Brand That Will Grow Your Impact And IncomeEpisode 217: How To Become Top Pick For That Role That You Really Want  THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CLARITY ACCELERATOR If you are looking for support with finding career clarity so you can relaunch your career with confidence, join this program >> https://www.careerchangemakers.com/cca Enjoying the show? # 217: How To Become Top Pick For That Role That You Really Want

[Visibility Series - Part 4] In today's episode, I am talking about how to become the top pick for that role that you really want. I break down the formula for blowing out your competition and becoming the top pick for your next career opportunity. How are you currently operating in the work place? Many of us think that the amount of time we spend on something has a direct correlation to the outcome... but it doesn’t always work out that way.If you are a corporate professional, you might have the mindset that “I need to be seen to be showing up and I need to be seen to be committed. The way that I can demonstrate that is by the amount of time I spend in the office or show up online. I need them to know that I’m working hard.”But it isn’t always the case that the more time you spend, the more output there is. Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve been drafting an email or you’ve been working on a report, you’ve been working on something for a while and really you’ve been sitting at a blank screen for a long time? It's not about the time you spend - it's about the impact that you create. If you want all your hard work to translate into getting promoted or landing a more senior position elsewhere, you need to learn what it is that your organisation is trying to achieve and then how to articulate the value and impact you can bring to help the organisation achieve these goals. You need to understand what that problem is first so you can position yourself to be an answer to that problem. What you will learn:The importance of understanding your organisation’s goals - When what you're able to achieve and deliver is aligned with the results that an organisation is trying to achieve and where they are trying to get to, you are able to place yourself strategically to been seen and to become a solution to the organisation’s problem. Tailoring and targeting - When you are clear and you understand what the organisation's goals are, you are better placed to tailor and target your efforts in the right place. You're able to properly diagnose what results actually look like.Shifting your mindset - Creating opportunities for yourself in the right places, try different ways to achieve your goal and experiment with your ideas. Putting yourself out there increases your chance of opportunities.Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 211: Better Boundaries At Work Will Set You FreeEpisode 215: How To Avoid Being Overlooked For Great OpportunitiesTHIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMIf you are looking for support with make a bold career move, apply for this program >>https://www.careerchangemakers.com/ccmprogramSupport the showSend us a text

# 216: 3 Easy Ways To Build A Personal Brand That Will Grow Your Impact And Income

[Visibility Series - Part 3] In today's episode I talk about 3 easy ways to build a personal brand that will grow your impact and income.I start by sharing two big reasons for focusing on personal branding, if you are someone who wants to accelerate and grow in your career right now.The first is opportunity. We are in a time that allows us to create opportunities like never before. Previously, we had to wait for a gatekeeper to open opportunities for us; whether that be a recruiter, a line manager or somebody within your organisation or externally that could open the door for you to be able to move forward  in your career. It's the same with timelines - previously these have been rigid, with certain expectations around how long it would take you to move forward and promote in a role. But what happens if you are actually able to operate at that higher level? What happens if you have the ability, you have the skill set you have the mental clarity to enable you to operate at a hight level? Why should you have to wait a number of years if you're ready before that? When it comes to personal branding, there is an opportunity for you to lean into your ability to articulate the value that you can bring sooner that what your timeline may say. The opportunity is there because you're able to put yourself out there, you’re able to build recognition for yourself, without having to wait for someone else to do for you. So that’s the big reason why your focus should be on personal branding. The second thing is expectation. We are in the digital age, a time in history where everything is online. As much as you may feel reluctance, if you want to grow and you want to accelerate and you want expand your career, getting out there online is necessary. So the expectation is that at the very least you’ve got an active LinkedIn profile. There’s a big reason why you need to be prioritising that.If there’s alignment across your personal brand, there’s a level of credibility that comes and there is a level of trust that is built when someone sees this consistency.            What you will learn: Discover your area of expertise - Start to get to know your area of expertise and it will be easier for you to attract the right people and audience who are aligned in this area. Who's your audience - Determine your audience - are they internal or external? Once you determine who they are, you can now position yourself for visibility.Commitment to your brand - Establish what you need to do consistently in order for you to communicate your personal brand and achieve your goals. # 215: How To Avoid Being Overlooked For Great Opportunities

[Visibility Series - Part 2] In today's episode I talk about how to avoid being overlooked for great career advancing opportunities.I see it time and time again amongst the women that I coach and the clients that I work with - one of the biggest reasons why they feel frustrated in the roles that they’re in right now and want to move to different roles or organisations is because they feel overlooked and undervalued.Because they feel overlooked and undervalued they feel that the organisation doesn’t value them so they go and look for another role elsewhere. They may be working in a team where other people are taking credit for their ideas or for their work. They might be experiencing other people who have been in the organisation for a lesser amount of time and they are being promoted above them. All these experiences can cause them to think that they’re not valued enough and so they need to move on.If you know you're doing a good job, you know that you’re showing up, you’re adding value but the organisation or your team members are not acknowledging it, it's partly their fault but it's not all their fault - it's partly your fault. It's your responsibility to make sure that the contribution you are making is noticed, in the way that you want it to be noticed. You’re the only person who knows what is happening behind closed office doors. You’re the only person who knows the amount of time that you're putting in and the amount of effort. Here’s the thing, when people are feeling overlooked and undervalued they want to jump ship, but what we don’t want to happen is that you move to a new environment and you experience the same thing. Because it's not just about the environment - you have a part to play.If you're not practising stepping out of your comfort zone, if you're not practising going out, reaching out and speaking to the people you know you want to connect with because you know that relationship could help move the needle for you... you're not going to get better at it. If you are being overlooked for opportunities, there is a different way that you could be going about positioning yourself. What you may learn:The importance of being intentional - It’s so important to be intentional about what it is you are sharing and where you are sharing it. We need to share the right amount with the right people and in the right environments if you want to make opportunities for yourself.Taking ownership for yourself - Only you have the tools to move and drive your career forward.  Stepping out of your comfort zone and speaking in a group setting or sharing your work experience is so important. Being strategic - Research the organisation’s goals, show how you support the organisation with achieving their goals in order for other people to see the value that you bring.Other episodes you may enjoy: Episode 199: The Power Of Metrics In Your CareerEpisode 210: Here Is Why You Are More Equipped For Leadership Than You ThinkTHIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMIf you are looking for support with make a bold career move, apply for this program >>https://www.careerchangemakers.com/ccmprogramSend us a text

# 213: How To Push Past Doubt And Go For What You Want

In todays episode I talk about why people get stuck when it comes to really going for what they want.Everyone is keen to set career goals, but it's common to doubt whether reaching your career goals (big or small) will actually happen. Doubt will keep you from make bold moves and taking a proactive approach to your career development. There is an easy and impactful way to push past the doubt and really go for what you want. Join me for this Career Conversation and let's talk about it.When I was on the Plane one of the things I was considering was “Why it is that people get stuck when it comes to really going for what is that they want”. So I want to share with you some insight around that and how you can be thinking differently if you are you know what you want, you know where you want to get to, you know you either want to step up in your career, you know you want to make a transition. But there is some resistance to you actually doing it. If there’s resistance its likely that what you want isn’t something that you’ve had before. If your going for promotion your going to be going for a role at a level that you haven’t operated at before. If you want transition into a new industry you haven’t been in that industry before. You are looking to do something, to operate in a way you have never operated in before. So its understandable why there’s resistance, because you have no personal  frame of reference. You basically have to step out on faith and you’ve got to believe that this is going to be possible and that can be challenging most of the time. Because there’s a risk, that this may not work. May people get stuck there.  What you may learn:- The power of borrowing belief.  By surrounding yourself with people who are already on the journey you want to take, allows you to step forward in more faith, because you can get to see where they came from, you get to see where they are going, you get to see what they had to do.- The importance of group support- When we support each other we are able to reach our goals more quicker. We can share ideas, experiences and build our network with like minded people.  Other episodes you may enjoy: Episode 209: 3 Things To Stop Doing To Secure A More Senior Position Quickly Episode 203: How Building A Personal Brand Landed Me Game Changing Opportunities THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CLARITY ACCELERATORIf you are looking for support with finding career clarity so you can relaunch your career with confidence, join this program >> https://www.careerchangemakers.com/ccaEnjoying the show? #212 - Creating Your Version Of Career Success With Gillian Shapiro

In today’s episode I am talking to Dr. Gillian Shapiro about creating your own version of career success.Gillian is founder and Managing Director of Shapiro Consulting. She brings over twenty years specialist expertise on inclusion and diversity baked in with behavioural science and organisational development into leadership, team coaching and culture change. Her focus is on helping leaders and teams build the relationships needed to thrive through complexity, uncertainty and change. In addition to consultancy and executive coaching, Gillian draws on her early career background in research to improve leadership development and practice within organisations. This was a fascinating conversation where we touched on Gillian's move from academia and research to launching her own business, how she has shifted and adapted as the market has changed and what changes she has seen in the workplace, particularly in the past few years with more remote and hybrid working.   What you will learn:-  The power of partnership. Whether it is you as a consultant offering your services to an organisation or you as an individual that's looking to work as an employee within an organisation, often we neglect to view it as a partnership.  Instead of asking whether the role is a good fit for us, we then focus on trying to prove ourselves. By focusing on partnership and the right fit, you ensure the work you do is really valued and you can really shine.-  The importance of relationships. Relationships are more important than ever. When things are more predictable, it's much easier to tell people what to do or to sell ideas to them. In the current climate, we really need to collaborate. We need to consult with people, we need to involve people. And that requires a different depth of relationship. -  The impact of hybrid working on relationships in the workplace. Although there are many positives, more intentionality is required. It's important to think carefully about when do we come together, who do we come together with, why are we coming together and how we need to do it in order to get the best outcomes.Connect with Dr. Gillian Shapiro at shapiroconsulting.co.uk or on LinkedIn.Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 204: How To Finally Stop Allowing Imposter Syndrome To Stunt Your Career Growth With Jaz Episode 190: Embracing The Career Change Journey With Anjuli ObaroTHIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CLARITY ACCELERATORIf you are looking for support with finding career clarity so you can relaunch your career with confidence, join this program >> https://www.careerchangemakers.com/ccaEnjoying the show?
