Ep 59: 2016 - Crisis In Six Scenes *Discussion*

At this point in Woody Allen's career Amazon Studios were distributing his movies and in an effort to bolster their television projects, Woody was given this opportunity to create this series we are discussing today!   So today we debate the results of said project... hoping for the best and discovering the not so best i'm afraid :(   In Crisis In Six Scenes (2016) A placid suburban life explodes when radical fugitive Lenny (Miley Cyrus) bursts into the home of neurotic writer Sidney (Woody Allen) and his therapist wife Kay (Elaine May). As chaos and secrets ignite, the couple's comfortable facade cracks, revealing hidden desires, political tensions, and simmering marital fissures. Forced to navigate a surreal odyssey of gun-toting revolutionaries, romantic entanglements, and unexpected heroism, they confront the fragile foundations of their lives and grapple with the transformative power of crisis.   _______________________________________   ....ANND just in case people think we are HATING on this out of nowhere with no sense of open criticism - why don't you read Woody's own thoughts on the project in the link below (yes we know Woody always talks smack about his own work)   WOODY REACTION TO MAKING CISC   https://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/may/15/woody-allen-agreeing-to-make-amazon-tv-series-was-a-catastrophic-mistake   Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_in_Six_Scenes   IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4354616/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/crisis_in_six_scenes-amazon     ____________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro

Ep 57: 2015 - Irrational Man *Discussion*

We are back on the retrospective with another somewhat interesting moral murder think piece by Woody   In Irrational Man (2015) Cynical philosophy professor Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) drowns his existential despair in booze at a small-town college. Sparks fly with two women: Rita (Parker Posey), a dissatisfied wife, and Jill (Emma Stone), a bright student. But a overheard sob about a corrupt judge ignites Abe's dormant nihilism. Tempted by a rash act of "justice," he grapples with the allure of meaning through chaos, questioning whether life's absurdities deserve defiance or resignation.    Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irrational_Man_(film)   IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3715320/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/irrational_man   ____________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro

Ep 56: 2014 - Magic In The Moonlight *Discussion*

Back on the retrospective in some familiar territory on which turned out  to be a small little delightful trip :)   In Magic In The Moonlight (2014) On the sun-drenched Riviera, illusionist Stanley (Colin Firth), a debunker of the supernatural, aims to expose young psychic Sophie (Emma Stone) as a fraud. But under the moonlight, his cynicism unravels as Sophie's charm and seemingly real powers cast doubt on his convictions. Torn between logic and faith, Stanley faces a choice: embrace the possibility of magic or cling to his rational world. Ep 55: 2013 - Fading Gigolo *Discussion*

Back again with another sidestep from the focused retrospective to follow Woody on yet another one of his outside collaborations, this time being with an exceptionally well known character actor (John Turturro) in a very strange and sexy* type of character piece???   This was certainly a strange one to say the very least... but always fun to have a conversation about :)   In "Fading Gigolo" (2013) Sharon Stone plays Dr. Parker, a wealthy dermatologist, she mentions to one of her patient Murray (Woody Allen) that she and a female friend, Selima (Sofia Vergara), wish to experience a ménage à trois and asks if he knows a willing man.   Murray, whose used bookstore has failed as a business, convinces his friend and former employee Fioravante (John Turturro) to take the gig as both are short of money. Soon, they build a thriving gigolo trade with Murray as the happy pimp. This decision sets off a series of unexpected and comedic events, challenging societal norms and highlighting the intricacies of desire and connection.   Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fading_Gigolo   IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2258345/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fading_gigolo   ____________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro

Ep 54: 2013 - Blue Jasmine / Dylan Farrow Interview Talk *Discussion*

Back again with a Woody episode many have waited for us to get around to - apparently this is another standout character piece that although uncomfortable to sit through... it's hard not to admire what's on display here....but sadly we have to inject a bit of reality in this episode as well   First off as always, a description of the movie for the uninitiated    In Blue Jasmine (2013) Jasmine Malone (Cate Blanchett), a former socialite from New York City, finds herself destitute and forced to seek refuge with her sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins), in the modest working-class neighborhood of San Francisco.   Jasmine's world has been shattered by the revelation of her husband's infidelity and financial ruin, leaving her with nothing but her illusions of grandeur and a desperate need to reclaim her lost status. As she grapples with her shattered self-image and the realities of her new life, she becomes increasingly entangled in a web of deceit and manipulation.   Now putting the movie aside for the moment, at the time of this actual recording Dylan Farrow had come out to do a in person interview for the first time to AGAIN continue the accusation of Woody and sexual assault in the midst of the #metoo / #timesup movement - as well as all the current crop of past actors that worked with Woody now denouncing Woody Allen completely   Because we decided to tackle all this drama in this episode specifically, it obviously got extended more than urual, so we want to thank those who stuck it out all the way through to the very end   Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Jasmine   IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334873/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/blue_jasmine   ____________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro

Ep 52: 2012 - American Masters - A Woody Allen Documentary *Discussion*

Back on the retrospective with a little side step discussion....   Robert Weide has proven to be a positive proponent and admirer of Woody Allen over the years, in fact more recently, he was the fellow that had him on for a facebook live interview as hard to believe as that might sound   As such, back in 2012 he puts his documentarian hat on and completed a pretty thorough exploration on Woody's entire life and career up to that poingt ... its probably one of the best celebrity documentaries we have ever seen thus far!   Please check out the links below for the full cast, user reviews, ratings and info you may find interesting   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_Allen:_A_Documentary   IMDb: tps://www.imdb.com/title/tt1895299/   Rotten Tomatoes: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/woody_allen_a_documentary   ____________________   A VERY Special Thanks to The Woody Allen Pages Website & The Woody Allen Subreddit for the continued support and info – check them out for the latest from the Woody Allen Fan Community!!   https://www.woodyallenpages.com     &    https://www.reddit.com/r/woodyallen   PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO THIS OR ANY OTHER EPISODE USING OUR COMMENT SECTION VIDEO LINK HERE   >>>>>>>  https://bit.ly/warpcom   IF YOU LIKE THE SHOW, PLEASE CONSIDER BUYING US A COFFEE / GIVING US A TIP VIA OUR PATREON CAMPAIGN  >>> https://www.patreon.com/woodyretro   Thanks for listening as always - we would also LOVE a review on iTunes or a 5 star rating via Spotify or whichever podcast platform you are listening on - please find all our connected links below.   >>>   https://linktr.ee/woodyretro
