The Tarot Diagnosis
Hey there! I'm Shannon - a licensed psychotherapist in private practice who also happens to love tarot. Each episode I work to demystify tarot and explore its connections to mental and emotional health while implementing its inherently helpful tools to better understand ourselves and those around us. Join me as I unravel common struggles related to our behavior, thought patterns, emotions, and relationships while pulling cards to facilitate growth and to help create the life and relationships we all desire.

Engaging Your Writual: An Interview with Sheila Ellis
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we are thrilled to bring to you our second interview ever! We had a chance to sit down with Sheila Ellis, the owner and creator of Writual Planner - a spiritual lifestyle brand focused on providing tools and resources to connect people to their personal tarot practice with more ease.
You’ve probably seen us post images and reels of us using Writual Planner because we absolutely adore it and love to work with it. But more importantly, we wanted to talk with Sheila because we love her spirit, her story, and what she represents in our community. Sheila is a wonderful role model for letting inspiration and intuition guide one’s work, being willing to have enough courage to take one small step after another and ask “what if” – all while allowing quiet times to lead to big dreams.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did!
Keep scrolling for this week’s spread, but first, we want to also let you know that if you want to get your own Writual Planner, or any of their other incredible spiritual and tarot goodies, you can get 15% off your entire order when you use discount code DIAGNOSIS at check out.
Inside the Writual Planner are a ton of extra resources for both tarot and astrology. We thought his week we would highlight our favorite two card spread and three card spread from the planner:
Two Card:
Block/ Help
Three Card:
Dream/ Current Reality/ Fear

Reframing Scarcity & Abundance
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we explore the concept of scarcity and abundance. These words get thrown around a lot and often conjure up intense emotions - including anxiety. So, it was no surprise when we opened the episode by pulling The Tower and Nine of Swords.
There is plenty to unpack with this topic - including spirituality, mental health, privilege, and social media. We invite all of the Aces, The Magician, Four of Wands, and Nine of Pentacles to round out our discussion, with a few other cards making a cameo.
Decks Used: Pagan Otherworlds & Crow Tarot

Managing Cynicism
Here’s the thing, we all have a bit of a cynic inside of us. And that’s not a bad thing - except for when it starts to get out of control.
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we explore our inner cynic, recognizing the ways in which it serves us, and discussing how to recognize when it has moved from being helpful to being harmful.
There’s a ton to discuss with this topic - including all of the Kings, The Emperor, Five of Cups, and a dash of Page of Cups to even things out. The Sun makes a funny appearance as well. Honestly, we both had a great experience in this conversation, and we are so happy to be able to share it with all of you.

The Truth about Escapism
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we wade into the sometimes healthy, sometimes not-so-healthy, yet always tempting waters of Escapism.
Inspired by a listener’s question, we explore and untangle all the ways in which people find ways to escape, why we feel a need to do this, and how to recognize when it’s gotten a little out of hand.
From Page of Pentacles and The Moon, to Three of Cups and Reversed Hermit, we dive into the mystery of this topic, it’s hidden joys, and it’s very real consequences.
We invite you to join us this week as take on the topic of Escapism.

Self-Sabotage
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we tackle the often talked about, yet enigmatic topic of self-sabotage.
We all do it from time to time (some of us do it seemingly all the time), but the real question is, “Why?” Because it can sometimes seem impossible to figure out how to manage self-sabotage, we often don’t fully understand what, exactly, we are trying to manage.
From Five of Cups and King of Cups to The Hierophant & Three of Cups, we cover all the bases in this episode!

Secrets
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we take a trip into the shadowy world of Secrets.
Research shows that people have on average 13 secrets - five of which they have never told another person. We get really curious about why this happens, and what having secrets does to us, and for us.
Join us for this revealing conversation, where we journey from the Three of Swords vs. Three of Cups, to the dynamic tension between The Devil and The Lovers - and why we think the Queen of Cups may have more answers than we even realized. You might hear a secret or two along the way.
Want to see us live? Join us this coming Thursday on Instagram at 8:00pm Eastern when we will be talking about this week’s episode, our month long Tarot and Shadow Challenge, and our upcoming Spread Crafting Workshop in The Symposium!

Healing Defensiveness
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we do the gentle work of Healing Defensiveness.
We went into this episode not exactly sure what direction we would go (which is actually pretty typical for us), but it ended up taking a ton of unexpected twists and turns, and in many ways turned out to be a bit of an upside-down episode that was incredibly enlightening and personal for the both of us.
Let’s face it- we all can be defensive from time to time. So, settle in for a little self-care and self-reflection and join us for this rich, card heavy conversation. Which is probably one of our favorites to date.

Chasing Newness
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we embrace the idea of Chasing Newness.
As humans we are all pulled towards new experiences, new things, new people, or new adventures (granted- some us us more than others). But how do we know when this draw has become an unhealthy compulsion? How capable are we of finding that line between our own instinctual need to personally evolve, and also recognize when this behavior is a sign of avoidance?
We start with Ten of Pentacles and The Sun, touch on all the Aces, The Hanged Man, Three of Swords, and talk A LOT about Temperance- while also getting into some old school psychological theory to help us make sense of it all.
Join of for this surprising and relatable conversation.

Finding Your Voice
Finding Your Voice is the idea we dive into this week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, and as we expected, it turns out this is a complex and rich idea to explore.
Our starter cards of Six of Swords and Knight of Pentacles felt really challenging at first, but as we sank deeper and deeper into the discussion, and unpacked Eight of Swords, The Moon, Seven of Cups, and seemingly alllll of the court cards, we came to love those first initial card pulls as incredible guides for this topic.
Come listen in and explore ways to find and strengthen your own voice.
In other news…
We are going LIVE on Instagram Tuesday September 13th at 9:00pm EST. Come join us as we pull cards and talk about tarot, life, and our monthly Symposium topic - Tarot & Money Work.
Speaking of, if Tarot & Money Work is a topic you are particularly interested in, it’s not too late to join The Symposium, where we will be offering a live workshop in a more intimate setting this coming Thursday, September 15th at 7:00pm EST
It’s going to be a good one!

Money's Impact on Relationships
This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast, we enter the slightly taboo world of money work by asking about Money’s Impact on Relationships.
We make quick work of unpacking how tightly linked our personal relationship with money is with our relationships with others - be that our partners, our family, our friends, or our community. And we discover that there are no easy answers here, but we do discover that this is a topic well worth talking about.
Travel with us, from Rx Eight of Cups (that Shannon accidentally kept calling Ace of Swords – oops) and Page of Cups, through Ten of Wands, Eight of Swords, and Nine of Pentacles, to eventually finding some clarity with Four of Wands and The Star. We also share some real life money stories and issues that play out in our own lives.
If you are a person who uses money and has relationships, this is for you (aka- this is a good episode for everyone).
If you want to go deeper into this topic, join us in The Symposium, where the entire month of September is dedicated to Tarot and Money work.
