23. Jaclyn Skeans: Sewing The Planets into Art

How do we marry astrology with a beloved creative practice? How can we invite once-in-a-lifetime astrological transits to become our collaborators in creating the art that is our lives? In this episode, my collaborator Britten LaRue and I are joined by a dearly beloved community member - Jaclyn Skeans. Jaclyn was one of our students during our astrology class last year and this year, Jaclyn  will be joining us as part of the community support team for our upcoming course, Astrology as Praxis. We thought it's a perfect opportunity to talk to Jaclyn about her deeply magical experiences emerging as an astrologer. This conversation feels like a poignant, heart-led conversation between three Pisces suns.We discussed how Jaclyn came into astrology and her unique experience of double emergence - first to name herself as an astrologer fluent in giving readings, and then as a textile artist creating astro-inspired work. Jaclyn shared her incredible process of listening to the planets for guidance on how to materialize her vision of marrying her artistic and astrological practice. We also spoke about how Jaclyn worked with the transits to transform her own life and how the planets shared their guidance in her creation process. Jaclyn has a warm, cozy presence that instantly puts you at ease, and I'm excited for you to experience Jaclyn's magic with us in Astrology as Praxis. Here’s Jaclyn’s bio:Jaclyn Skeans (she/her) is an avid list maker (Virgo Rising), lover of all things magical (Pisces Sun), and always curious about how you're really doing (Scorpio Moon). Cultivating a more intimate relationship with astrology and the planets has been an ever evolving gift, one that currently has Jaclyn creating a life that inspires and excites her. In the real world you'll most likely find Jaclyn out on meandering walks with her dog, sitting in the sun, or in her sewing studio creating Astro Hoops- custom, textile creations that turn your natal chart into tangible art. 22. Madison Nees: Dancing in The Underworld

What happens when we allow ourselves to learn to dance with the deep, gritty, dirty parts of ourselves? What does it mean to claim that we are artists of our own lives? How do we work with the sensations of our bodies to honor the full range of our humanity? In this deeply electric conversation, my guest is Madison Nees. I met Madison when Madison gave a rich, powerful talk about cultivating a relationship of inquiry and curiosity with the body - and I instantly knew I wanted to work with Madison. Our conversation is centered around Madison's practice and upcoming offering, Katabasis. We discussed what it means to be an artist, the connection between creation and destruction, how somatics are innate to us as human beings, and how diving into our inner underworld can help us find our own leadership. We also spoke about what ancestors meant to Madison and how Madison's ancestral practice has been shifting. Madison's reflections are poignant and deeply rooted in both Madison's personal and professional practices. The spaces Madison holds reflect a sincere commitment to the non-expert model. They inspire participants to explore their own autonomy and interconnection. I'm honored to share this space and this conversation with Madison. Here’s Madison’s bio:Madison Nees is a human, counselor, artist, and guide. My practice focuses on the intersection of ecology, ritual and somatics. I have worked in the addiction and trauma treatment industry since 2015. My own journey includes healing from substance use, anorexia nervosa, loss of culture and self. When I began my journey, I did not understand that the pull to somatics was a call of my ancestors. I was being pulled to heal all the things my mother could not and ultimately lost her life avoiding. I was being pulled to feel the things my Grandmother had no language for.My body knew the language however, and it spoke in illness, pains, aches and rage. It also spoke the language of held grief and aloneness. During this process, I discovered gifts hidden beneath these repressed emotions. These gifts were the sensations. The gifts were the rivers of grief leading me home to myself. They were also the intuition and creativity of my lineage. I always tried to “do” something with the emotions but my healing progressed the more I simply sat with them. Instead of trying to push them away, I wondered what would happen if I let them grow. They grew into my practice today. You can sign up for Madison's newsletter on Madison's website, and follow Madison's work on Instagram @ritual_body.  Check out Madison's exciting new six-month journey, Katabasis, which will begin on Sep 18, 2022. You can set up a call with Madison if you're curious here. Madison will also be hosting a group ritual on Thursday, Aug 18, 2022 called Pleasure is Holy. Join me and Britten LaRue in a year-long astrological learning container, Astrology as Praxis! How can we build new worlds by learning astrology together as a community? How can astrology assist us imagining new ways of being with each other in community? In this very special episode, my collaborator Britten LaRue and I are joined by our astrology students from the Charting Your Course 2021 Cohort! This was such a fun episode to record and I hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed recording it. We discussed:What they've learned about themselves, others, and the world around them from learningHow applying and questioning ‘knowledge’ is as powerful as accruing it, and how it happened within a community of learners. What learning astrology has taught them about cultivating themselves and others in their lives. What trepidations they experienced in terms of learning together and being in a long-term learning container. What they learned about being with yourself and being in community since learning astrology within the community. This coming September 2022, Britten and I will share a new offering - Astrology as Praxis - which is a year-long journey to learn, un-learn, and integrate the magic of astrology in our lives as individuals, communities, and members of the larger cosmic body. We warmly welcome you to visit our course page to learn more about this offering and sign up to receive updates from us.  It was such a joy to meet again as a group and to share this conversation with a wider audience. 20. Erin Kelley: The Malefics & The Bad Houses

What wisdom may we glean from cultivating relationships with difficult planets and houses? What gifts might we uncover through working with the small and quiet when our society glorifies the big and loud? How can we increase our capacity for embodiment and wisdom through our relationship with the malefics and the bad houses? In this episode, I'm joined for a very magical conversation with astrologer and dear friend, Erin Kelley. Our conversation is centered around the astrological idea of the malefics (Mars and Saturn) and the bad houses (the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses). We spoke about what these ominous-sounding concepts translate to our personal and professional astrological practice, how to deepen our relationship with forces that can feel scary to work with, and how working with them can unlock invaluable wisdom in our daily lives. I deeply appreciate Erin's approach to astrology - her insights are firmly rooted in her dedicated studies of the rich tradition of astrology and equally integrated through her personal, intuitive lens. As two self-proclaimed sensitive humans, our conversation feels like a beautiful tribute to the often-unpopular malefics and bad houses, and all the gifts we've received from working with them in our lives. Here’s Erin’s bio:Erin Kelley is an astrologer and intuitive who loves finding beauty and joy in the most unexpected places. A former kundalini yoga and meditation teacher, full spectrum birth worker, and consultative strategist, she believes the book of knowledge is never truly written and has an insatiable curiosity which is continually calling her to adventure and leading her down a number of paths. Erin has studied the nature of invisible things throughout her entire life and in 2020, she began working on the concept of Slow Magick, which is the practice of slowing down and stepping into sacred time, to deeply connect with Nature and the Land to relax, restore, and reveal the natural self. When not ensconced in enthusiastic communion and conversation with the otherworld realms, you can find Erin and on the internet at https://slowmagick.comYou can sign up for Erin's newsletter, follow her on Instagram @slow.magick and visit her website. 19. Astrology as Praxis with Britten LaRue

What does 'astrology as praxis' mean? How do we invite our whole selves to learn and apply astrology in our lives? What does it mean to remember our participation in the cosmic body? In this conversation, Britten LaRue and I mused on the title of our upcoming year-long astrology learning container: Astrology as Praxis. We discussed how this concept came to us, why it feels so meaningful as two mystic-astrologers who came from long backgrounds of good ol' academia, and the ways that synthesizing astrological concepts into our daily lives as humans have helped us heal and dream new realities. We also discussed the implication of considering the concept of astrology as praxis on our facilitation style, and we break down the juicy subtitle of this course: Remembering our Participation in the Cosmic Body. We warmly welcome you to visit our course page to learn more about this offering and sign up to receive updates from us.  Britten and I feel so thrilled and proud of what we’re co-creating, which is unlike anything we’ve seen in the astrological community. 18. Astrology as a Living Being with Britten LaRue

What if we begin treating astrology as a living being? What if astrology is a wise elder or a trusted friend? How will that change the way we talk about challenging transits and moments in our lives? In this conversation, my dear friend, brilliant collaborator, and first astrology teacher Britten LaRue and I announce our very exciting new offering: a year-long astrological learning container we lovingly titled ASTROLOGY AS PRAXIS: REMEMBERING OUR PARTICIPATION IN THE COSMIC BODY.We sat down to talk about how each of us came into astrology, how astrology invites us into a state of wonder (which can feel very destabilizing), the joys and challenges of collaborating and co-creating, and we invite you to expand your perspectives beyond the narrow lens of how our capitalist, consumerist culture sees and uses astrology. We warmly welcome you to visit our course page to learn more about this offering and sign up to receive updates from us.  Britten and I feel so thrilled and proud of what we’re co-creating, which is unlike anything we’ve seen in the astrological community. 17. Verena Borell: Mercury & The Outer Planets

How can Mercury open the portal to the outer planets: Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto? What is Mercury’s evolutionary intent? How can we foster a collaboration with our Mercurial mind in our soul’s journey? My guest in conversation today is the brilliant evolutionary astrologer and my dear friend, Verena Borell. Our conversation revolved around the relationship and interplay between Mercury and the outer planets. When Verena suggested this topic, I noticed our shared energetic field lit up. It feels electrifying to pay tribute to our chart ruler (Verena is a Gemini rising, and I’m a Virgo rising) - to reflect on how our Mercurial curiosity assists us in our soul’s evolution, and how our analytical minds can serve as a bridge to accessing the pure intelligence of all creation.Verena also shared how she discovered Evolutionary Astrology and her journey in deepening her relationship with this wisdom tradition, the challenges in learning and sharing astrological insights, and what it means to embody Mercury in this lifetime. Here’s Verena’s bio:Verena Borell lives and works as an evolutionary astrologer, writer, creatrix and translator for cosmic energies in Munich but will move to Austria this summer. She offers 1:1 Evolutionary Astrology Sessions in German and English language and supports clients with “Cosmic Guidance“ over several months on their soul’s journey. To expand and deepen the wisdom school of evolutionary astrology, Verena started last summer to read the Akashic Records for herself and her clients, too. Blessed with gifted and wise teachers such as Sabrina Monarch and Ari Moshe Wolfe, Verena considers herself as an eternal student. Born with a strong Gemini and Sagittarius axis and a fully loaded 12th house, Verena has the deep desire to share the light, her learnings and experiences with other souls. She teaches her “Living Astrology Intensive Program“ in German language, gives astrology workshops and shares her astrological knowledge, intuitive insights and cosmic experiences on her Instagram channel @verenaborell, via her Mercury Messages Newsletter and her Mercury Dreams Podcast in German language.Verena considers astrology as a loving and living experience. For her, astrology and the planets are neither above nor detached from life but rather a part of an enchanted, wise and meaningful universe which includes nature, earth, the cosmos, humans, animals and also entities from other dimensions and extraterrestrial realms. Verena considers evolutionary astrology and the akashic records as powerful systems and magical tools to navigate our soul’s experience in this incarnation here in earth school and to connect with a higher Truth, Love and Source. Because of that, rituals, meditation and prayers to the planets, goddesses and gods are part of her astrological practice, soul’s path and heart work. You can sign up for Verena’s Mercury Messages newsletter either in English or in German, follow her on Instagram @verenaborell and visit her website. To book an evolutionary astrology reading with Verena, contact her at mail@verenaborell.com. We also mentioned Ari Moshe Wolfe, Sabrina Monarch, Jeffrey Wolf Green, and Deva Green.  If you've enjoyed and benefited from the podcast, I invite you to apply for private mentorship and coaching with me. 16. Remembering Our Inherent Worth (Solo)

You may have heard the phrase "You are inherently worthy" floating around in the collective. But have we paused to consider the truly radical implication of this phrase? If we truly believe that our worth is inherent, what shifts are available in how we relate to ourselves, to our communities, and to the 'authorities'? What other portals might we open if we get into the practice of embodying this knowing of our inherent worth? What revolutions might be start if we believe ourselves to be children of the universe, rather than limited by man-made governing bodies?A few months ago, I channeled a workshop for The Wild Ones community's virtual retreat. In the past couple weeks, I've felt a nudge to update the content of this workshop and share it widely. When Roe v. Wade was overturned in the US this past week, I knew it's time for me to share a new offering that went a little bit deeper than the one I shared previously. While the previous version of this offering felt abstract and personal, I believe this is a rhizomatic offering. In engaging with this offering, you're beginning a ripple effect that can provide a powerful and potent shift in the collective. In this offering, I shared some perspectives that have blossomed and synthesized from my Akashic and astrology practice, as well as a guided meditation to infuse this knowing into your energetic body. If you feel called, I'd love to hear about any insights, messages, and realizations you experienced from this offering. Feel free to email me at healingthespiritpodcast@gmail.com. It is my hope that this offering meets you wherever you are. 15. Marika Hamahata Clymer: The Ecology of Healing

What does it mean to be a healer within a capitalist, colonial framework? How do we honor the complexity of our healing practice as complex humans? My guest in conversation today is my wise Reiki teacher, Marika Hamahata Clymer. Our conversation revolved around the idea of what it means to be a healer for ourselves and for our communities, how reigniting our relationship with the land is in itself an embodiment practice, and what it means to create a learning community while divesting from the model of the ‘guru.’ Marika shared how her journey as a farmer led her to create her year-long Reiki program, Foundations of Energetic Ecology, how to reimagine our bodies through ecological frameworks, and what it means to teach Reiki from an animist, Japanese perspective. Here’s Marika’s bio: Marika Hamahata Clymer (she/her)  is a healer, teacher, birth attendant, and mother who inhabits Occupied Duwamish Territory - Seattle, WA. Of Indigenous Ainu, Japanese, mixed European lineages, Marika’s practice is emergent of her ancestral communities - including people, plant, animal, and land. You can find more about Marika’s program by visiting www.energeticecologynw.com. 14. Nick Kepley: Finding Wisdom at The Margin

My guest in conversation today is the brilliant Nick Kepley. We sat down for an open, expansive conversation about the margin. We explored what it means to be in a constant quest for the balance between deconstructing our subconscious replication of oppressive systems in our spiritual practices and creating beautiful personal and public practice that centers inclusivity.Nick shared profound insights they've gained from listening to the margin and how it's served as an invitation to question the philosophy behind the concept of archetypes. Nick also shared their current thoughts about what it means for them to hold the identity of a white practitioner - to embody the search without appropriation and extraction. Here's Nick's bio: Nick Kepley is a white, queer, non-binary Tarot anarchist who believes in the power of words and their complete inability to describe reality. Since 2011, Nick has been working as a Tarot facilitator, utilizing the cards as a reflective tool, and witnessing the conversations that take place between clients and their deeper knowing. In addition to this work, Nick is also the co-creator of the In Search of Tarot guided journal collection, the founder of The Searcher's Symposium for Tarot Education, and the host of the In Search of Tarot podcast. They are currently writing a book that imagines a new kind of mythopoetics for healing and reclaiming marginal identity. You can learn more connect with Nick by visiting manofthecards.com or by following them on Instagram @insearchoftarot. You can also listen to Nick's podcast, In Search of Tarot, and support the podcast's Patreon account. I was recently a guest on Nick's podcast. We discussed the idea of what astrology is, how we can work with archetypes, and healing our relationship to the idea of divination. It was probably one of the most powerful conversations I've been a part of.
