A to Z Am I the Jerk? 29 | Am I the jerk for not wanting to give up my dreams?

Scenario: I'm a young adult who recently moved out of my parents' home to pursue my dreams and gain independence. My parents have always been supportive of my choices, and we've had a close-knit family. However, my younger sibling, who is in high school, has been struggling with severe anxiety and depression, and my parents have been doing their best to support them. Now, here's the terrifying dilemma:My sibling's mental health has taken a significant toll on my parents. They're constantly stressed and sleep-deprived, and their relationship is strained because of it. My parents have asked for my help. They want me to move back home and take on a more significant role in caring for my sibling, both emotionally and practically. They believe my presence and support will alleviate the situation. However, I've worked hard to build my new life, and I'm on the verge of achieving my dreams and goals. Moving back home would mean putting my own aspirations on hold indefinitely. I fear that this sacrifice could lead to long-term regret and resentment, and I'm terrified that I might lose my newfound independence and opportunities. So, am I the jerk for not wanting to move back home to help my struggling family, even though it means potentially neglecting my own dreams and aspirations?Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-am-i-the-jerk-29-am-i-the-jerk-for-not-wanting-to-give-up-my-dreams/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. A to Z Am I the Jerk? 28 | Am I the jerk for not wanting my roommate's cousin to stay with us?

You've been roommates with Sarah for over a year, and things have generally gone well. You both share household responsibilities, and there haven't been significant issues. One day, Sarah approaches you and asks if her cousin, Jenny, can stay at your place for a few nights. Jenny is in town for a job interview and needs a place to stay. Sarah explains that Jenny is respectful and won't be a bother. You're generally a private person and value your personal space, but you want to be a good roommate and friend. You agree to let Jenny stay, but you have one condition: Jenny can only stay for a maximum of three nights.Jenny arrives, and everything seems fine at first. However, her job interview gets postponed, and she asks if she can stay a few more nights until the rescheduled interview. You start to feel a bit uncomfortable with the extended stay but don't want to come across as rude. After her interview is rescheduled again, Jenny asks if she can stay even longer until she finds a job and a place to live in your city. You're now feeling like your personal space is being invaded and the situation is becoming too much. You talk to Sarah about the situation and explain that you can't have Jenny stay for an indefinite period. Sarah is upset and says you're being unsupportive and not a good friend for refusing to help her cousin. Now you're questioning whether you're in the wrong for setting a limit on Jenny's stay, or if you're justified in wanting to maintain your personal space and boundaries. Do you think you might be the jerk in this scenario?Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-am-i-the-jerk-28-am-i-the-jerk-for-not-wanting-my-roommates-cousin-to-stay-with-us/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. A to Z Am I the Jerk? 27 | Am I the jerk for calling out a team member in front of the group?

You're part of a group project at work, and it's been a challenging and stressful assignment. The deadline is approaching, and you've all been working long hours to complete it. One of your team members, Sarah, has been contributing significantly less than everyone else and frequently missing important meetings, causing delays and added stress for the team.Frustrated by Sarah's lack of commitment, you decided to speak up during a team meeting and point out her lack of effort and the negative impact it's had on the project. You made it clear that you believe her actions are jeopardizing the project's success.Sarah looked hurt and embarrassed after your comments, and the rest of the team went quiet. The team leader thanked you for your honesty but suggested discussing the issue privately next time. Now you're wondering if you were in the wrong for calling Sarah out in front of the team, or if you were justified in expressing your frustration about her lack of effort.Do you believe you're the jerk in this situation?Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-am-i-the-jerk-27-am-i-the-jerk-for-calling-out-a-team-member-in-front-of-the-group/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. A to Z Idioms 31 | Idioms with "Witch"

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack explains the meanings of three idioms which use the word "witch."Witch hunt: Refers to a campaign or investigation that targets a person or a group unfairly, often with the intent of finding wrongdoing, even if there is little or no evidence of it. Example: "The political scandal turned into a witch hunt, with everyone searching for a scapegoat."Witching hour: This phrase is often used to describe the late night or early morning hours when supernatural events are believed to be more likely to occur. Example: "Strange things always seem to happen during the witching hour."Witch's brew: Refers to a mixture of various substances, often in a messy or confusing manner. Example: "The experiment turned into a witch's brew of chemicals and reactions."Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-idioms-31-idioms-with-witch/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack answers a Would you rather? question by using an OREO format. If you would like to send in your OREO answers just follow the format:O: OpinionR: ReasonE: ExamplesO: Opinion restatedTranscript:00:00:00JackYou're listening to the A-Z English podcast.00:00:13JackWelcome.00:00:13JackInto the ABC English.00:00:14JackPodcast my name is Jack and I am one of the hosts of the podcast and today I'm doing a would you rather question and we like to call these Oreo episodes because Oreo stands for opinion.00:00:36JackAnd opinion restated Oreo.00:00:43JackAnd today's would you rather question is, would you rather be a famous actor?00:00:50JackOr a famous author.00:00:55JackAn author is just a writer. That's what that means. So you would be a famous writer, well known successful writer, or a famous actor.00:01:09JackTom Cruise or Angelina Jolie? Something like that.00:01:16JackAnd I'm going to give.00:01:17JackMy answer in an Oreo format.00:01:22JackAnd I'm going to do my best to.00:01:26JackGood examples.00:01:28JackOf why I am choosing my answer.00:01:32JackThe way I am.00:01:33JackAnd then what I would like you to do, the listener, I would like you to send your Oreos so.00:01:42JackState your opinion, give your reason.00:01:45JackGive your examples and.00:01:48JackRestate your opinion again, Oreo.00:01:52JackOn our website A-Z englishpodcast.com.00:01:55JackOr by e-mail A-Z englishpodcast@gmail.com.00:02:02JackOr join our.00:02:03JackWhatsApp group and go to the A.00:02:05JackTo Z English podcast chat room.00:02:09JackAnd you can state your opinion right there. So five times a week.00:03:05JackAll right, so here's the the question again.00:03:09JackWould you rather be?00:03:11JackA famous actor.00:03:15JackA successful famous author.00:03:20JackI would rather be a successful author.00:03:25JackAnd I know that's a strange answer.00:03:28JackBut it's because.00:03:32JackI want to be.00:03:35JackFamous for.00:03:38JackMy mind, my brain.00:03:41JackAnd not for my appearance or.00:03:46JackYou know being.00:03:48JackA good looking actor or something? And I'm not saying I'm I'm good looking, I'm saying.00:03:54JackIf I were a famous actor, I would probably be good looking and I don't really value those that as much as I value intelligence. I think intelligence is more interesting and more important than beauty.00:04:14JackBeauty is nice. It's nice to.00:04:16JackYou can't.00:04:17JackBeautiful people.00:04:18JackThey're, you know, it's they're. They're beautiful. They're, you know, beautiful people are are pleasant to to look at however.00:04:28JackBeauty is only skin deep.00:04:32JackAnd and when you talk to somebody, when you read and listen to somebody.00:04:39JackIf there is no.00:04:40JackSubstance inside of them, if they're not, if they don't have a good brain.00:04:49JackYou know, good intelligence.00:04:53JackThey're not intelligent, then they're boring.00:04:58JackRight, beauty.00:05:00JackIs is OK for a moment.00:05:05JackA conversation.00:05:07JackA lifetime relationship with an author.00:05:12JackYou know? Uh.00:05:13JackReading their books, waiting for the next book.00:05:16JackTo come out.00:05:18발표자That I want.00:05:19JackThat kind of relationship with a fan base, people that people that love me and or like me and appreciate me for my mind, not for my appearance, which I think is a lot of what being a famous actor is now. Obviously, it's not just beauty because.00:05:38JackThere are actors have to be.00:05:41JackGood performers, they have to be able to.00:05:46JackPretend to be somebody else, and that's a that is a talent. I'm not saying actors are stupid. I'm not saying actors are on talented. I'm saying that is a talent, but I think.00:06:01JackA part of.00:06:02JackThat is about appearance, just looking good on the screen and.00:06:10JackA writer and author.00:06:13JackIs just.00:06:15JackCreating an entire world.00:06:17JackFrom nothing, just from their mind.00:06:21JackJust from their mind.00:06:23JackThey're creating an entire universe.00:06:28JackA writer is like.00:06:30JackA God.00:06:32JackBecause they get to create the world that all the people in their story live in.00:06:39JackThey get to tell the people what to do.00:06:42JackThey get to tell the people what to say.00:06:45JackThey create the story.00:06:49JackYou know when.00:06:50JackWe think about.00:06:51JackWords we don't like the word history.00:06:55JackRight. We don't think about that word very often, but what does it mean? His story, his story, his story.00:07:03JackRight you create.00:07:06JackA story.00:07:08JackAnd that is completely.00:07:11JackThe writers story they they create it. They sit down at a computer and look at a blank screen.00:07:20JackAnd then they think of ideas.00:07:23JackAnd they type them out or write them out or however they do the whatever they're writing process is.00:07:33JackAnd they put that story those words onto a blank page, and they do it again. And again and again until they have hundreds of pages.00:07:46JackThat came started with nothing, and then they have hundreds of pages with thousands of words.00:07:55JackThat's amazing to me.00:07:57JackAnd if people respected me for doing that.00:08:01JackI would feel a lot prouder than if I were just a famous actor. Now, on the other hand, being a famous actor means you get to go to great parties and you get to be hang out with lots of the beautiful people and famous people and you get to have a lot more money than writers make.00:08:22JackAnd yes.00:08:23JackThe lifestyle would be very.00:08:28JackVery nice.00:08:32JackI feel like the respect that a writer gets.00:08:38JackAnd is is better?00:08:40JackThan the fame that an actor gets. So For these reasons.00:08:46JackI would rather be a successful author.00:08:51JackThan a famous actor.00:08:54JackThat's my answer.00:08:56JackI know it was a long Oreo.00:08:59JackBut I have to fill up this episode somehow because I'm doing a solo episode. So.00:09:08JackIt I need to I need to keep talking a little bit. Your Oreos can be much shorter than this one, but I would love to know what you think about this. A to Z Quick Chat 99 | Do you believe in haunted objects?

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack is truly on a solo mission as he does a Quick Chat episode by himself! lolThe question he talks about is this:Do you believe in the idea of haunted objects? Transcript:00:00:00JackYou're listening to the A-Z English podcast.00:00:13JackThe aid is English podcast. My name is Jack and I am one of the hosts of the podcast and today I'm doing a solo episode and this is truly a solo episode because it is just me talking to you.00:00:30JackAbout a topic.00:00:33JackAnd this will be.00:00:34JackA quick chat episode. We haven't done a.00:00:37JackQuick chat in.00:00:38JackA while and I want you to send me your.00:00:42JackComments about this topic because I'm curious to hear what you think about this topic and so the topic is.00:00:51JackOr the question I should say is.00:00:54JackDo you believe?00:00:58JackIn the idea of haunted objects.00:01:02JackSo do you believe in the idea of haunted objects?00:01:09JackAnd what that?00:01:10JackMeans is that do you believe that objects can possess or can have?00:01:18JackEvil spirits.00:01:21JackSo if you.00:01:24JackBring some kind of.00:01:26JackHaunted object some kind of object into your house that has an evil spirit.00:01:33JackIt can bring bad luck and cause mischief.00:01:39JackIn your life, in your home.00:01:42JackIn your relationships.00:01:45JackAnd the reason is this object. It has an evil spirit. It's haunted.00:01:51JackIt could be a doll, it could be a piece of furniture.00:01:55JackIt could be a piece of jewelry, like a ring.00:02:00JackOr a necklace.00:02:03JackThere are a number of horror movies that.00:02:09JackDeal with this.00:02:10JackTopic for example, I'm thinking of the.00:02:13JackMovie Annabelle and Annabelle is a doll.00:02:17JackBut she is but the doll is possessed by an evil spirit.00:02:24JackAnd the evil spirit can cause harm and.00:02:28JackAs I mentioned before, mischief and terror.00:02:31JackFor the people that.00:02:33JackAre around the doll that that have the doll.00:02:37JackAnd so.00:02:39JackThe question today.00:02:40JackIs do you believe in the idea?00:02:44JackOf haunted objects.00:02:47JackAnd I'm going to. I'm not going to just.00:02:50JackThrow away this question and.00:02:51JackSay no, flat out.00:02:54JackI'm gonna. I'm gonna really think about it and share with you my, my honest feelings about this topic.00:03:04JackAnd there there's before I start there's there's kind of an.00:03:11JackAspect of this that I want to share with you and that's that I live in South Korea. I'm an English teacher.00:03:17JackBut I live in.00:03:18JackIn work in South Korea.00:03:21JackAnd I've lived.00:03:22JackIn Asia, for about half my life.00:03:25JackSince I was about 23.00:03:29JackYears old, I have lived in an Asian country.00:03:35JackThailand and South Korea.00:03:40JackAnd I know that definitely.00:03:42JackThere is a belief in Asia that.00:03:46JackAnd this is.00:03:48JackNot exactly held by everyone, I mean in maybe long, a long time ago, people believed this.00:03:56JackUM that?00:03:59JackEvil spirits do exist, and that we need to ward off and to ward off evil spirits means to to push them away, to keep them away, to ward off evil spirits. You would do certain things you could do. There were certain practices or.00:04:17JackThe way that.00:04:18JackA building is designed. The architecture was meant to ward off evil spirits.00:04:27JackI think that that idea is still.00:04:29JackThe idea of of objects having evil spirits does exist today because.00:04:37JackLiving in Korea I've I've got. I've found a lot of.00:04:42JackHow can I say this without sounding strange?00:04:46JackThe chair that I'm sitting on right now, the computer chair I have, I found it some outside. Somebody was throwing it away, and it's a perfectly good computer chair.00:05:00JackAnd in America, if somebody were to put this outside.00:05:06JackAn American would grab it in.00:05:08Jack5 seconds and take it home and use it.00:05:11JackBut in Korea I find a lot of.00:05:13JackPeople don't want to use.00:05:16JackDon't want used furniture?00:05:18JackThey, you know, they think it's.00:05:21JackAnd I think that it comes from the idea of they don't want to bring something mysterious into the household, which could be a, an, an evil spirit, a bad spirit or bad luck.00:05:37JackThe the fact that I'm sitting on.00:05:39JackA used piece of furniture tells you that, obviously.00:05:43JackI don't believe in.00:05:46JackHaunted objects. I don't believe that objects can possess evil spirits because I have two computer chairs.00:05:56JackIn my office here.00:05:58JackAnd they're both.00:06:01JackAnd as we say in English, one man's trash is another man's treasure.00:06:08JackAnd so there are two perfectly good perfectly clean.00:06:16JackComputer chairs.00:06:18JackThe desk chairs and.00:06:21JackI found them outside and somebody was going to throw them away and to me.00:06:27JackThe idea of throwing away a good chair so it can just go into.00:06:33JackA landfill, a pile of garbage.00:06:36JackAnd sit there.00:06:37JackFor 1000 years, why not use it? You know, recycle.00:06:42JackI believe in recycling, so I have.00:06:47JackA computer.00:06:48Jack2 computer desk chairs that are recycled.00:06:52JackAnd I've got something else too.00:06:55JackI'm trying to think of what there's something else that I'm I'm forgetting that I I found.00:07:02JackOhh I have a an.00:07:04JackExercise machine. Somebody threw away a perfectly good stationary bicycle and it's a.00:07:10JackBicycle that you?00:07:12JackYou don't go anywhere. It's not a real bicycle.00:07:15JackIt's a stationary stationary means not moving.00:07:19JackAnd it's a stationary bicycle and you ride it for exercise. So I can watch TV and ride my stationary bicycle and exercise and burn calories.00:07:32JackAnd someone threw away a perfectly good one.00:07:36JackProbably because it was they were not using it. It was in their apartment and it was taking up space. And so they put it outside. I saw it, I brought it home. I cleaned it up. I fixed a couple things on it and now it's works perfectly well.00:07:58JackI have these used.00:08:00JackObjects that I brought into my house.00:08:06JackYou know, some Korean people would think I'm crazy, they would think.00:08:10JackHow could you take a risk?00:08:12JackAnd bring in.00:08:14JackSome kind of bad spirit.00:08:17JackWe're unlucky, spirit.00:08:19JackAnd I just don't think I don't believe in that. I believe objects are just objects, they're just made of atoms.00:08:30JackAnd they they don't possess any sort of spirit or essence. They're just things.00:08:38JackAnd they cannot.00:08:41JackHurt you by themselves? I mean, someone could pick up the chair and they could hit me with the chair and that would hurt me. But really, that's the person doing it, not the chair. The chair is just a tool. It's just an object. Same with the stationary.00:08:58JackLike so. Yeah. So so my answer and this is I'm giving you the long answer here is that I think.00:09:07JackI think that idea of haunted objects is actually kind of a bad thing, because it stops us from using from recycling. You know, there are a lot of lot of times people throw away good stuff and it just goes into a landfill and it just pollutes the planet.00:09:28JackWhereas another person could use that object and so I really, you know, part of part of me.00:09:36JackEnjoys recycling because it's free, right? I get a free chair or two free chairs and a free stationary bike.00:09:46JackThose are.00:09:47JackCan be expensive objects.00:09:51JackI got it for.00:09:52JackFree. So that makes me happy. I saved money.00:09:57JackBut the other half of me is happy because these objects are not.00:10:03JackIn the ground somewhere.00:10:05JackJust polluting the earth with plastic and garbage.00:10:09JackAnd they're actually being used and I'm using them here.00:10:15JackIn my house at my desk, I'm sitting on this chair.00:10:20JackAnd it's very comfortable.00:10:22JackAnd so.00:10:24JackI I think that actually the idea of haunted objects has a kind of negative impact on society.00:10:32JackBut I would love to hear what you guys think. Am I crazy for?00:10:39JackLiking used objects that could be haunted.00:10:44JackIf you believe.00:10:44JackIn that thing, that sort of thing.00:10:47JackAnd I would love to know.00:10:48JackWhat you think so?00:10:51JackLeave a comment on our website A-Z englishpodcast.com.00:10:56JackSend me an e-mail A-Z englishpodcast@gmail.com.00:11:00JackOr join our awesome WhatsApp group if you join the WhatsApp group, you can join the A-Z English Podcast Chat group. In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack is joined by Agnieszka, Salimeh, and Ana Maria as they discuss the following question:If a genie offered you 3 wishes, what would you wish for? Transcript:00:00:00You're listening to the A-Z English podcast.00:00:1Welcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I'm one of the hosts of the podcast and today I am with three of my favorite.00:00:1People Agnieszka Salime and Anna Maria. They are guest hosting for this episode, and this is a fun one, you guys, because I've got a good question for you.00:00:35And the cool thing is I get to be I get to be the genie in this one because I am going to grant you.00:00:433 wishes each so if a genie were to grant you 3 wishes, what would you wish for? What would you wish for? And we're gonna start. We're gonna put Agnieszka in the hot seat first.00:01:0So, Agnieszka, what are your 3 wishes?00:01:06Hello, Jack. Well, difficult. I I think my first wish it will be.00:01:19Travel the world.00:01:1Yeah, I've never here to travel, travel, and wherever I can.00:01:6Now when you say travel the world, are you talking on a magic carpet or just a regular airplane?00:01:34If I can do it in America carpet without falling, I will do.00:01:39It OK, OK.00:01:41As far as.00:01:41Might get a little, might get a little cold up there, but I I don't.00:01:45Know it'll. Yeah.00:01:46But, but you gonna you're gonna help me? You're my? Yeah. And the second one, it will look less fish. It's selfish. I think it will be. You know, I stop all all this if if.00:0:01It's magic so.00:0:0I can imagine that it it all happens, so I'll stop all these.00:0:07In the world, like all those fights with.00:0:1Ohh general that have no sense for me. So yeah, it will be this is it. It could be possible I.00:0:1Will reach that.00:0:3So you would wish for World Peace. Basically. Well, peace. Yeah. Travel and World Peace. OK, good. Those are two great choices. What's your third one?00:0:33It's the third line.00:0:36And you can't. You can't choose three more wishes.00:0:39OK, I'm going to put a uh.00:0:41I was thinking about that, but OK, OK.00:0:43OK. And the other one, it will be.00:0:50Well, difficult. OK, leave.00:0:53Wherever I want.00:0:55Not only trouble live there, wherever, wherever I want, yeah.00:03:01Just like at the snap of a finger like you could just snap your fingers and be like I'm living in Paris this week and then.00:03:08And right now I want to go to Spain and it will be there by some time. Yeah, it will be my wish. My last.00:03:14OK, so you don't even need that magic carpet. That's just like your. That's like your car, that's your transportation, but.00:03:1Yeah. OK.00:03:1That's true.00:03:3Yeah, I love it. I love it. Awesome. OK, so those are agnieszka's 3 wishes.00:03:3OK.00:03:9Selime now the.00:03:31Genie is out. You. He is granting you 3 wishes. What are your 3 wishes?00:03:41Well difference difference relations can be.00:03:45May I have?00:03:46You know, not real. It's not. I like read people's minds, you know, this is one of my wishes. I don't know what's going on in peoples minds. Yeah. And and maybe, you know, it's like I can guess what's your next move or, you know, because I'm reading their mind.00:04:04So this is my first wish. Yeah, this is.00:04:06Are you sure that's a? Is that a wish or a curse though you?00:04:07My real but I.00:04:08Like I like it.00:04:10Know that may you may not.00:04:11Want to know what people are thinking? It may scare you about humanity, you know.00:04:17No, I have. I can't have any related to to read peoples mind when I want to, you know, not all the time. All the time is gonna be so crazy. And the second one, as Mr. said, we we all want to travel to many countries. So I.00:04:7Right.00:04:35Want to have?00:04:36A lot of money.00:04:37My bank account, you know, just even. It's sent. You know, it's not. It's not gonna finish over. I I want.00:04:48My money all the time in my bank account. OK, no matter how much I spend. So with that, I can do everything I want. So I I can't even have a job as my hobby. So I have. I don't want to worry about money while I'm traveling. So yeah.00:05:05I like that. I like that.00:05:07OK. Yeah, so.00:05:1I know.00:05:14Actually I have seen not really, uh every days which is.00:05:0I I want to.00:05:1You will eat a lot of food and don't gain any weights for every woman.00:05:9Yeah. No, that's not. Not just women. I I, I I want that too. I've that's that's my number.00:05:36One wish, I think actually.00:05:37You just took my.00:05:38Yeah, actually wanted to. No need to go to the gym or you know, you can eat as much as you can and that you always eat and.00:05:5Yeah. And you have enough zeros in your bank account. You could eat whatever you want. You can eat. Uh, you know, fine French cuisine. Every every night. And yeah, the best sushi in the world never have to worry about anything. Sounds great. You guys are good at this game. You're very good at.00:06:10This game and.00:06:1Now we're gonna go to Anna Maria Anna. Maria, do you think you can? Can you improve on the on agnieszka's and slimes answer.00:06:Some of my answers are similar, but they have one different. I good health for me and my family.00:06:3OK.00:06:3And not suffering with doctors and things like that. It's one of my wishes because I I want to travel like one of them said is one of my wishes to have the time and the money to travel around the world.00:06:5And my third wish is I don't want to work. I don't want to. I don't want to work anymore. I don't want the money for free.00:07:03Yeah. Do you want the zeros in your bank account? Like silly May just if you spend some money, those the money just goes right back in and fills up again. Just never anything. Yeah, you can travel around, live, be healthy, travel and never have to worry about working again. Sounds fantastic.00:07:11Yeah. It's like a beautiful plant.00:07:3Those are three great.00:07:5Eternal vacations.00:07:30Alright, listeners out there, let us know what are your 3 wishes. A to Z Quick Tok 54 | What would you sacrifice for an extra year of life?

In this episode of The A to z English Podcast, Jack is joined by Layla, May, and Hendrick as they discuss the following question:What would you sacrifice for an extra year of year of life? Transcript:00:00:00JackYou're listening to the A-Z English podcast.00:00:14JackWelcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I'm one of the hosts of the podcast and today I am joined by three of my good friends, Leila Hendrick and me.00:00:25JackAnd we are actually doing a well, a kind of would you rather question and this was brought to me by Layla and the question is what would you sacrifice for one extra year of life so.00:00:43JackFor example, if you were going to live to be 74 years old then.00:00:50JackYou you sacrificed one year. You you only live to be 73 or sorry. You could live to be 75. Sorry you could live to be 75, but you have to sacrifice something. What would you give up?00:01:05JackTo get one extra year.00:01:08JackAnd what we got to put some rules here. It can't be like, oh, yeah, I'll give away my pencil, this pencil. I'll. I'll give sacrifice. It's got to be something that's like important to you. Yeah, that's necessary. Right. Right. So, Layla, what would you sacrifice?00:01:29JackFor an extra year of life, and of course, there's always the option to say nothing you could say I wouldn't sacrifice anything.00:01:37LaylaYeah, right.00:01:39LaylaYeah. And as you, as you mentioned, Jack, the question represents something should be very, very serious and necessary because sacrifice, sacrifice, something that mean that means you have something.00:01:58LaylaYou really need it. You would you. You couldn't live without it, but you have to get rid of it for getting something and or maybe another. Something very precious. So for example.00:02:14LaylaIn my case, I live in a hot country so.00:02:19LaylaCould I sacrifice?00:02:23LaylaAir conditioner air conditioning system to look just in the hot weather for one year.00:02:32LaylaIt's really hard. It's really tough or maybe so it should be something very, very serious and necessary. I think maybe maybe about food as as long as I don't care too much about food, so maybe I will sacrifice me.00:02:34JackRight.00:02:48LaylaIt's it's easy for me to eat vegetables and the bread and something like that, so maybe I can live extra here. Just eating vegetables and without eating meat. I think that maybe.00:03:04LaylaI will say that.00:03:06JackThis is interesting because if you give up meat, that may actually give you an extra year of life, maybe more just because eating meat.00:03:11MayOK.00:03:14LaylaYeah, yeah.00:03:16JackIs kind of.00:03:17JackNot good for us, right. So you're if you become a vegetarian, you might actually.00:03:23JackThe You this might come true. This might be a real like realistic, not just a magical thing, you know, hypothetical. It could be real, yeah.00:03:34LaylaYeah, it's really hard without without having different types of food, but for some people, maybe it will be.00:03:45LaylaPossible like my situation?00:03:48JackYeah, I couldn't. I could not give up meat for, and I don't think I could give up meat for an extra.00:03:56Jack10 years I don't.00:03:58JackThink I don't think there are enough years to to, you know, to to, to, to make me give up meat.00:04:02LaylaYeah, it's really hot.00:04:06JackOhh, but I would love to. I would love to be a vegetarian.00:04:09JackI I know it would be good for me.00:04:11LaylaBut I will never sacrifice my phone and Internet. I I wouldn't. Yeah.00:04:16MayGo on an Internet. OK. I was going to.00:04:20JackSay, would you give up?00:04:21JackEnglish for an extra year of life, no.00:04:23LaylaNo, I couldn't.00:04:27JackBecause like, you're talking about quality of life, right, the quality is too good. You'd rather have a good like, you know, you're still fairly young. So you, you know, you could live for another 40 or 50 years. That means for 40 or 50 years, you have no phone, no Internet, no English. That would be not worth it.00:04:48JackRight for one, OK.00:04:50LaylaI shouldn't live without that.00:04:52JackOK, OK alright. Meat is gone. Phone is in.00:04:57JackAlright, I like it. I like.00:04:58JackIt, Mr. Hendrick, what would you give up for one extra year of life?00:05:09HendrickWow. To be honest, it's quite hard for me to think, but.00:05:15MayI think.00:05:17HendrickI'm gonna give up with social media, yeah.00:05:22HendrickSo I think I only have like a year or so. I just you know like want to.00:05:29HendrickDisappear from social media I think. Yeah. And then just lose contact with.00:05:35HendrickAll of my friends, maybe so maybe after, you know, like I die.00:05:39HendrickSo at least.00:05:40HendrickThey don't feel sad, like they don't know anything about me. So yeah, I just want to, you know, sacrifice from social media.00:05:49JackSo you'd give up Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, you just let it all go.00:05:55HendrickExactly. Yeah. So I just don't want. Yeah, I just don't want, you know, like, my Internet friends feel sad about me.00:06:04JackOhh boy. OK, interesting for one year.00:06:09JackIt's worth it.00:06:10LaylaSo Hendrix sacrifice us. Yeah, yeah.00:06:17JackHendrick is just a distant memory for us because we can't we can't reach.00:06:23JackHim. He ghosted us.00:06:25HendrickOhh no yeah, but actually I think I.00:06:29HendrickDo that because I don't want.00:06:31HendrickTo make you guys feel sad.00:06:36JackAll right. OK. OK. I I was going to say, why don't you just give up Harry Potter? But.00:06:41JackThat's too hard.00:06:42LaylaOK.00:06:44JackWow. No way. Impossible. OK. Social media. Harry Potter is in social media is out alright. OK. Hendrick, thank you for your answer. Thank you for your honesty.00:06:56HendrickYeah, yeah, yeah. Because, I mean, like, I have been spending a lot of time with social media. So I just want to sacrifice it.00:07:06JackSo you can focus on your your masters.00:07:08JackDegree pH. D and yeah, sure.00:07:10HendrickNo, because you.00:07:11HendrickKnow like I only have like a year, you know? And you know, like, I also not spend a lot of time with my family because of social media. So maybe just the last.00:07:26HendrickOne year from my life, so I just want to disappear from social media and maybe spending more time with my family or my friends in this reality life.00:07:35JackOK, Layla may, how long do you give? I give him three months and he's.00:07:39JackBack on Facebook.00:07:42MayI I've been not even 3 days.00:07:45JackNot even 3 days. OK, I'll give you 3 months. Just give you 3 days.00:07:53JackInteresting. Interesting. Very interesting. OK. May you had time to think now what can you give up?00:07:58MayOK.00:08:01JackOr an extra year of life.00:08:04MayThis is extremely challenging for me, but I I think I have my choices. I will sacrifice.00:08:16MayMy time of my.00:08:17MayTime and money, or maybe energy as well.00:08:22MayI will contribute some of my extra money to those who are in need, like probably home for children, home for the elderly, elderly people and maybe if I am, if I'm still available, I will.00:08:43MayContribute some like some of my evening. I will help them.00:08:49MayTo do some work like maybe I can teach them, teach them, teach the children in some English. Or maybe my my local language, so that is what.00:09:02MayThat are the things that I will.00:09:05MayI feel that.00:09:06MayI can say goodbye.00:09:08JackSo may I think you're going to try to buy some time. That's what it sounds.00:09:11JackLike to me.00:09:13JackYou're buying time. You're like, I'm gonna buy. I'm gonna spend some money. I'm gonna do some work. I'm gonna buy.00:09:14LaylaYeah, because.00:09:18JackThat extra time.00:09:18MayI because I am grateful that I have not.00:09:22MayYeah, you need to leave. So why don't I?00:09:25MayShare it with us.00:09:28MayBy doing something good.00:09:29MayAt least when I'm no longer in the world, people will Remember Me.00:09:32MayOh, she helped us before so.00:09:37MayI live a good name.00:09:39JackI mean, what? You're what?00:09:40JackYou're saying is like straight from the, you know, religion, right? It's better to give than to receive. Right. So you're you're describing that exactly, yeah.00:09:52MayI am seeing with each other. I already do. Well, well, I mean my financial is super stable. I'm secure.00:10:01MaySo I'm very healthy at that time, so why not?00:10:06JackYeah. No, I respect it. I I'll accept that answer. I'll accept. I think everybody's answer is legitimate. And my answer is.00:10:18JackYeah, my answer is nothing.00:10:18MayYes, yes.00:10:21JackI will not sacrifice anything for one more year of life.00:10:25JackI'm just gonna let it. It's. I'm just gonna let nature take its course. And if I die a year early, at least I enjoyed myself. You know what I mean? So.00:10:37JackIt's kind of like if you go to a party, you say you can have a you can have an OK time at this party for three hours or you can have a great time.00:10:46JackThis party for two hours. I'll have a great time for two hours and uh instead of an OK time for three hours. So yeah, time doesn't matter. It's quality, quality over quantity.00:11:00JackFor me.00:11:01MayYeah. So you will just you just eat and do whatever you like within the one year.00:11:02LaylaYou've got it. Yeah, you've got it.00:11:08JackI'm just gonna do whatever I want. Eat what I want and let nature take its course. You know, when it's my time, it's my time.00:11:16MayLet's decide.00:11:21MayWait, answer.00:11:22JackYeah, there you go.00:11:24JackAll right, so we've got really four really interesting answers. A to Z Quick Tok 52 | Would you rather have a job that you love but struggle financially or a job that pays really well but doesn't make you happy?

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack is joined by May, Layla, and Hendrick as the discuss the following Would you rather? question:Would you rather have a job that you love but struggle financially or a job that pays really well but doesn't make you happy? Transcript:00:00:00JackYou're listening to the A-Z English podcast.00:00:11JackWelcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I'm one of the hosts of the podcast and today I am joined by my good friends and guest hosts Layla Hendrick and May.00:00:25JackAnd we have a really good would you rather question this one was brought to me by May. So thank you may for this one. And the question is would you rather have a job that you love?00:00:41JackBut struggle financially or have a job that pays really well but doesn't make you happy.00:00:53JackOh, this is a tough one. This is a tough one.00:00:58MayThis is.00:00:58JackLayla, I'm going to.00:01:00JackLet you.00:01:01JackGet the first you know, take a the first crack at this one.00:01:05JackWhat do you think?00:01:06LaylaOK. Honestly, it's really a tough, tough situation to deal with.00:01:13LaylaUh, if I rather have a job, but I really love it.00:01:19LaylaBut I couldn't make enough money exactly at the question said to travel financially.00:01:29LaylaOr maybe to have a job that saves a lot of money, but I am never happy. I maybe that job doesn't make.00:01:39LaylaMe happy at all.00:01:41LaylaI think she.00:01:44LaylaUh, I will go with the job that I love because I want to feel.00:01:52LaylaI want to.00:01:53LaylaSee my relax. Uh, maybe with the job that I love, I love it. I I can make a process and.00:02:04LaylaTo develop myself in some different ways, which makes me be able to get another chance of another job. So.00:02:15LaylaBecause I love that job strongly, I have a passion about it.00:02:20LaylaSo I think I will go with the having.00:02:24LaylaA job that I really like it.00:02:27JackOK.00:02:27LaylaBecause I think I will create about that job.00:02:31JackYeah. You're taking you're kind of taking a risk. You're taking a gamble.00:02:36JackOn and following your we say in English following your gut, you know your gut instinct, right? It's like I think I should be doing this even though I don't make a lot of money. This is what I really love. This is my passion. OK, that's very respect. Respectable. You know, that's commendable.00:02:57JackI like that answer.00:02:59JackAll right.00:03:00JackTrick. What about you, Sir? What are you going to choose? You going to take the job? That pays well, but doesn't make you happy. Or are you going to follow your passion and take the job that you love, even though you're not making much money and you are struggling financially?00:03:19HendrickWow. Yeah, to be honest, it's quite tough, but I think I will go with the number.00:03:28HendrickLike I will, I will. I will try to have, like, a job that pays well, but doesn't make me happy because yeah, I mean like.00:03:39HendrickAt least you know, like I have a job. And then I have good financial like I have this money and then.00:03:48HendrickI have a.00:03:48HendrickDoubt with the number one, I mean like you have like a job that you love but you don't, you know, like good at financial. I think that's also not make you happy like you know like struggle in financial.00:04:04HendrickI mean like we will be happy.00:04:06HendrickWith that right?00:04:08HendrickAnd at least I mean like I.00:04:10HendrickJust need to work.00:04:12HendrickIs a day in a job like maybe 8 hours or seven hours? Yeah, maybe at a time.00:04:19HendrickI I'm not happy, but I'm I think after that after I receive the money, maybe I will be happy, yes.00:04:26JackRight.00:04:27JackSo, OK, so you're you're not happy at work for 8 hours, but you're happy at home because you have money and you can really buy some stuff that will make you happy and then sleep 8 hours. So 16 hours. You're doing OK? Yeah.00:04:34HendrickX icon.00:04:39HendrickYeah, rather.00:04:42HendrickYeah, rather than, you know, like you have a job that you really love, but you know, like, your struggle financial. So I I say, like, I mean like, it's good rather than, you know, like you have a good job, but you know.00:04:55HendrickAfter that you have to struggle with financial I mean like you also need money to eat. Need money to for something.00:05:03JackRight, no, this isn't. This is, this is the why this is such a good question. May you're you've really, you've got my head spinning right now because Leila makes a good point and Hendrick makes a really good point. So may settle this debate for us. What do what? Which one are you going to choose?00:05:22MayTo be fair, I am still considering my my option for this question.00:05:28발표자 2OK.00:05:31LaylaShow me.00:05:34MayAnd getting a high pay sounds.00:05:40MayHowever, in this situation I I would rather go for go for a job that I love.00:05:47MayAlthough the pay is a little low, probably so probably I.00:05:56MayWe need to.00:05:56MayDo I will need to do some another job?00:06:00MayTo get extra income.00:06:03MayAs long as I am happy, because except the fact that.00:06:10MayEven though a company paid you very high.00:06:15MayIncome, I mean, if you earn very high from that company, but trust me most of the time you won't be able to go back on time. You need to come during the weekend or public.00:06:27MayOK, you need to do a lot of overtime until like when you go back home, you don't have. Don't even have time to see your family to hang out your friends. So that is.00:06:39MayMost of the time what you call.00:06:42MayHigh, high income job.00:06:45MaySo for all the reasons mentioned, I prefer to go for a job that I love. Although the pay is a little lower and probably I will do another.00:06:46HendrickOK.00:07:00MayPass to get some income.00:07:04JackNow I think may change the rules in the middle of the game here because it went from struggling financially to a little bit less pay.00:07:14JackI don't know. I'm not sure.00:07:14MayExactly. Yeah. And they struggle.00:07:19MayStruggling, struggling financially.00:07:22MayYeah, you, you get a job one job with.00:07:28MayI mean, but you get what you get the job, but the the money that you that you know every month is low. So I I'm thinking maybe if I OK if I I don't like doing this job but I'll maybe have another job so that I won't struggle.00:07:49JackOK, OK. So you have one job that you love and then you get to get another job that you maybe hate. So now you have two jobs, one that you love, but one that you really hate. But that's alright, I guess what you're saying, I get you're saying you're going to supplement your income somehow, make some extra money? Yeah.00:08:05MayYeah, something with my income.00:08:07MayProbably I can do something.00:08:10MaySo by doing that, I'll.00:08:11JackYeah, yeah, sure. Well, I.00:08:12JackDon't think you can invest any money you don't have. You're struggling financially. You don't have any money to invest.00:08:17MayBy so. So in that case I will choose to do another extra job so that I won't struggle financially.00:08:25JackOK, OK.00:08:27JackSure, sure, sure. OK. OK. Alright, I'm I think this is I'm going to choose. I'm going to go with Hendrick and I'm going to take the job that I hate.00:08:37JackUM, but pays really well, and I'm going to focus all my energy and my free time on my hobbies, and I'll have a lot of time to buy. Like good podcasting equipment and, you know, audio equipment and video equipment. And I can really make my hobby.00:08:56JackMy main job and then just work to live.00:09:00JackLive, you know, just go and work and make money, but it's not really my passion. I know it's.00:09:06JackSad, I mean.00:09:07JackI the best case scenario is that you work a job that you love and you make enough money to live comfortably, but in a lot a lot of situations for people.00:09:20JackThey work in jobs that they don't really like.00:09:24JackBut they can't quit because they need the money. They have families, they have, you know, kids that are studying ballet at a boarding school in America, there's things like that. So just for example.00:09:42JackYeah. So you know in my opinion, I mean it it I know it's it's not exactly a romantic situation, you know, but but it's. But it's practical. It's practical. And so even though I really respect Layla and Maze answers because I think you guys are following your heart.00:09:43MayWhich is.00:09:55Layla00.00:10:03JackAnd your passion.00:10:05JackI just. I don't want to struggle.00:10:08JackBecause I I have.00:10:09JackWorked many jobs that I hate and also struggled financially.00:10:14JackI had it.00:10:15JackI didn't get paid well and I hated the job, so.00:10:19LaylaThis is really the worst.00:10:21발표자If I can.00:10:22JackAt least.00:10:22JackGet at work. A job that I hate and get paid. Well, that's better than what I was.00:10:27JackDoing in the past so.00:10:29LaylaRight.00:10:30JackYeah, yeah.00:10:32JackSo that's my yeah.00:10:33MayBut then Jack, I have a question like I just want to ask your point on this. Let's say if you looking in the A you got a job and your income the the company will really pay you very well, but then you don't even have time to.00:10:52MayBuy the things that you like, do whatever things you want to do.00:10:56MaySo will you feel happy or will you satisfy?00:11:00JackWell, that depends. I guess I we didn't really discuss the the rules of this question very clearly. I was assuming that both jobs are 40 hours a week, you know 40 or 50 hours a week. But one job you enjoy the other job you don't enjoy. But the time is the same.00:11:20JackIf you if.00:11:20발표자 2It is only.00:11:20JackI have to work 80 hours a week.00:11:22JackWeek to get the good paying job, then I'll just work the job that I hate. But I'll work 80 hours a week and then I'll make enough money to survive. So.00:11:35JackYeah, I I understand what you're saying. And you're right. Most people who have a lot of responsibility and are at high positions in companies, they work really, really long hours. That's just a fact. That's true. So I would not, I would not agree to that. I don't want to do that.00:11:48MayYeah. Check.00:11:55JackI want to I want to have leisure time. I want to have spend time with my family. I want to spend time with my my online students making the podcast, teaching in the Zoom sessions and making content for my channel. So in that case.00:12:14JackI don't think I would sacrifice all of that for one high paying job where I have to work 80 hours a week.00:12:22JackI couldn't do it.00:12:23JackSo I guess I agree a little bit with you may and I agree a little bit with Hendra and I agree a little bit.00:12:29JackWith Leila. So I cheated.00:12:30발표자 2It looks like you're on both side.00:12:32발표자 2Now, yeah, you. You were saying? I tried to change.00:12:32JackYeah, I cheated. I.00:12:33JackI'm standing on the fence right now.00:12:42JackRight, I always accuse May of being the cheater of trying to have to play both sides, but today I'm.00:12:48JackBoth sides Jack today. Yeah. This. Yeah.00:12:52MayOK.00:12:54JackI'm gonna. I'm gonna.00:12:55JackThrow it out to our listeners out there cause we're kind of split here 5050. So I want the listeners to be the tiebreaker. What do you guys think? Would you rather have a high paying job where that you hate?00:13:08JackOr would you rather work a job that you love but struggle financially? And what is your answer to this? A to Z Quick Tok 50 | 3 Ghostly Stories from China

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack shares three ghostly stories from the country of China.China has a long history of ghostly folklore and legends. Here are three ghostly facts about China:The Hungry Ghost Festival: The Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Yu Lan Festival, is an important annual event in Chinese culture. It is typically observed in the seventh month of the lunar calendar. During this festival, it is believed that the gates of the underworld are opened, allowing spirits and ghosts to roam freely in the human world. People offer food, incense, and other offerings to appease these spirits and ensure they do not bring bad luck. The Legend of the Woman in White: In Chinese folklore, the "Woman in White" is a popular ghostly figure. She is often depicted as a spirit who appears to travelers at night, dressed in white and seeking help. Her appearance is often an omen of danger or death. This legend has been the inspiration for various Chinese ghost stories, novels, and films. The Haunted Great Wall: China's Great Wall is not only a remarkable architectural wonder but also has its share of ghostly tales. Over the centuries, numerous people have perished during its construction, leading to stories of restless spirits haunting its remote sections. Many visitors and hikers have reported eerie encounters, strange sounds, and apparitions while exploring the Great Wall at night.Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-quick-tok-50-3-ghostly-stories-from-china/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/Tik Tok:@atozenglish1Instagram:@atozenglish22Twitter:@atozenglish22A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out our You Tube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master.
