How To Use Personality Assessments

Personality tests are beneficial to my work as a coach. I use personality assessments to get a picture of the client’s situation and evaluate where we need to begin. In organizations, personality tests could be used to assess a new hire’s fitness for a role. For example, if a hire is high in feeling and low on attention to detail, you may not want to put them into accounting. But if they lean toward facts, figures, and numbers, they could excel as a sales executive. Personality tests, however, can be a source of setbacks when misused. In this episode, I discuss using personality assessments productively. First, I explain why wearing personality types like a badge of honor can be problematic and describe how I transitioned from an extrovert to an introvert. Next, I examine ways to improve access to parts of our personalities. Finally, I also highlight the use of personality tests as touchstones and underscore how personality assessments can help us expand our range and move outside our comfort zones. “If you want to do something outside your comfort zone, don’t let the personality tests tell you you’re not this kind of person and you can’t do it. You can be whoever and whatever you want to be in this world.” - Mark Silverman. This week on The Rising Leader Podcast: ●     Why adhering to personality tests can be problematic●     The Enneagram test and how it helps to evaluate core motivations and fears●     Fixed mindsets and how coaching helps to leverage strengths●     What makes a leader●     Using personality tests to expand your range and get out of your comfort zone Grab Your FREE Copy: Only 10s book. Are you a busy executive or organizational leader? Dealing with The Personal at Work

If you have a spouse, if you have children, if you have elderly parents, you’re going to deal with stress outside of work. If you have a body, you’re going to deal with stress outside of work. It’s inevitable—stress is simply part of the human experience. But if it’s a constant in our personal lives, how can we manage it so we can do our best at work? What do we do if that stress starts spilling into our jobs? In this episode, I discuss dealing with stress from outside of work. I reveal why complaining about work and stress to your coach is natural and often beneficial. I explain what “allostatic load” means and describe the two ways of managing it. I also highlight the importance of self-care and underscore the value of meditation and journaling. “If you’re human, you’re going to have problems. If you have a job, you’re going to have to do your best. So, do what you need to do and remember to ask for help.” - Mark Silverman This week on The Rising Leader Podcast: ●     Why a coach is a great person to have●     What “allostatic load” means●     Increasing your capacity to deal with stress●     How stress, discomfort, and challenges are part of the human experience●     Reaching out to others and seeking help Leader, It’s Time to Rise! Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of The Rising Leader Podcast. Speaking Truth To Power

It can be terrifying to speak your truth. When you find yourself in an environment where opposition is less than welcome, or you’re the breadwinner of your family, it can be difficult to point out flaws in your organization. Yet, sharing your knowledge can be beneficial for your company and yourself—and just like anything, it takes practice to move through fear and risk and speak your mind. In this episode, I discuss what it takes to speak truth to power. I describe the roles of self-worth and personal safety in speaking the truth in your organization. I explain why it’s important to cultivate goodwill, political capital, and trust with your boss and peers. I also offer advice on how to speak your mind when you feel trapped in your job and highlight how spiritual practices can grant you a sense of personal safety. “Learn to speak your mind and you’ll become invaluable.” - Mark Silverman This week on The Rising Leader Podcast: ●     The Office Space and the value of speaking one’s mind●     “The Evil Machine Company” and why it’s important to say what’s wrong in an organization●     Laying the ground rules for disagreements and creating a safe space for speaking truth●     Maintaining your network and your professional connections●     Revamping your LinkedIn and updating your resume●     Why you should go to interviews occasionally Leader, It’s Time to Rise! Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of The Rising Leader Podcast.
