I have been following Erec Smith for at least the last couple of years. Erec resigned as a 'Diversity Officer" once he saw the dangers of how this industry is framing the work and the vocabulary. He gives us some inside baseball on DEI and its goals. DEI makes a lot of sense "if your goal is social transformation . . revolutionizing society, getting rid of powers that be and establishing something else." The famous David O. McKay mural is apparently on the chopping block. But suspect reasons for its destruction are plenty. Many on and off campus believe the move is political. This is an intriguing and meaningful story. No room has been allowed for donors who want to preserve the mural which could be removed as soon as June. In fact, they are traveling around the country giving stake firesides. Often these firesides are good and spiritual. But a quick check of their podcasts and social media shows something different.
