Episode 85: Discovering Your Brand's Voice
Copywriter Kayla Hollatz joins me for today's episode to chat about discovering your brand's voice. Writing about yourself or your business can always be challenging. We've talked about copywriting a bunch on the Brands that Book podcast, but Kayla offers up some helpful insight and practical exercises that anyone can use to discover their brands voice.
Kayla also has an impressive roster of clients that include companies like Showit, Interact, and Convert Kit, so we also make time to chat about how she was able to find those opportunities with some bigger clients.

Episode 84: Cancellations, Rescheduling, and Enforcing Your Contracts
Attorney Paige Griffith, of The Legal Paige, joins me for a special live episode of the Brands that Book podcast to discuss contracts, specifically what you need to know when cancelling or rescheduling events. With what's going on in the world right now and this subject being top of mind for lots of people, we opted for a live episode so that people could access this information sooner. We cover quite a few different scenarios in this episode and Paige has also written a blog post on this topic. I've linked to that and other resources Paige has available on her website in the show notes.
Before we get started, a quick disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and the information shared during this episode are for informational purposes only and not for purposes of providing legal advice. You should contact your attorney to obtain advise with respect to any particular issue or problem. And as Paige mentions during the episode, while she is a lawyer, she's not your lawyer.
If you want to know about any of the live recordings we have coming up, be sure to sign up for our mailing list. We don't plan on making every episode a live episode, since streaming live has its own set of challenges. But I think in certain circumstances, like with today's episode, it's helpful.

Episode 83: 5 Facebook Audiences to Target
In today's episode we are chatting about different audiences that you can create and target when advertising on Facebook. And one of my Till Agency partners, Jesse Morquecho, is here to explore this topic with me. In this conversation, we chat about five different audience or targeting possibilities that you can get started on, on the Facebook platform. We cover how to create those audiences within Facebook, considerations when targeting each of those audiences, and where we would recommend starting if you have a limited experience with Facebook advertising.
Something that we should have mentioned at the beginning of the episode is the importance of testing. We've seen certain audiences work really well in one account and not at all in another. As with many things, it will likely take a little effort to start seeing consistent results. While we certainly believe that Facebook advertising can produce great results, it's not our intention to make it out to be some sort of magical platform that produces massive results without any effort.

Episode 82: 5 Tips for Creating a Productive Schedule
Vanessa Kynes is back and joining me for a discussion on building a block schedule. We review a blog post I wrote a few years ago on block scheduling, but it was written in a very different season of life than the one I'm in right now; specifically, didn't have a kid then.
Vanessa and I approach this conversation differently, so I hope that's helpful for anyone listening who wants to put some intentionality back into their daily schedule.

Episode 81: Flodesk and the Importance of Putting Your Customer First
Martha and Rebecca, the founders of Flodesk, join me today for a conversation about email marketing and how Flodesk came to be. Flodesk launched late last year, but in a short amount of time it has become a very popular email marketing platform, especially among creative professionals.
I chat with Martha and Rebecca about what made them pursue building an email marketing platform even though there are so many different options out there. I think anyone building a business, especially in a market where they feel it's saturated or there are lots of other options, can benefit from listening to this episode.
If you haven't checked out Flodesk, give it a try. If you've never done any email marketing before, I think you'll find it pretty intuitive to use and if you have experience with email marketing, I think you'll find their email designer to be a breath of fresh air.

Episode 80: How Virginia Dare Dress Co. Began
Today's guest is Rebekah Murray, founder of Virginia Dare Dress Co. I was really looking forward to this interview because I haven't interviewed a dress designer on the podcast before. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.
While we generally spend some time hearing about our guests' entrepreneurial journey, we spend nearly the entire episode about how Virginia Dress Co. came to be. It was fascinating to hear Rebekah's story and about all the different pieces that need to come together in clothing design.
I should also mention that there is some construction going on at our neighbor's house, so I apologize if you hear a little of that in the background. But otherwise, I hope you enjoy Rebekah's story just as much as I did.

Episode 79: How to Get Started as a Website Designer
Today's guest is Chris Misterek, the founder of Self-Made Web Designer and he's here to chat with us about just that: getting started as a website designer. We chat about what's appealing about a career in website design and how to take the first few steps in teaching yourself website design from scratch. Chris also shares with us how he was able to build a client roster and provide some advice for others who are looking for more work.
I have a feeling that Chris is a guest that we will have to have back on the podcast to continue exploring the how-to's around website design. But if you are looking to connect with Chris before that, he is launching his own podcast. The tentative launch date is March 3rd, 2020 and I will be sure to link it in the show notes as soon as it is available.

Today's guest is Emily Sexton, the founder and CEO of The Flourish Market, a shop where every product has a bigger purpose, just like you. And purpose is much of what we chat about today. Episode 76: The Ins and Outs of Quarterly Planning
Today I am joined by Creative at Heart conference host and founder, Kat Schmoyer. Kat is joining me on the podcast to talk about quarterly planning, a very timely discussion at the beginning of the year here. But it is important to remember that there is nothing special about January 1st, so regardless of when you are listening to this podcast episode, you can start planning at any point during the year; it is never too late.
Kat and I discuss everything from why quarterly planning, what sorts of things are looked at each quarter, who should be involved, how far in advance you should you plan, and setting yourself up for success so that you can actually execute the plan you lay out for yourself.
If you are interested in learning more about Kat and Creative at Heart, be sure to check out episode 6.
