S2:195 1 Kings 10

Starting off with the hilarious question you may have heard growing up, “Who do you think you are, the Queen of Sheba?” Emma Dotter is joined by today’s devo writer Steve Pennypacker. The Queen of Sheba was able to right see that Solomon’s wisdom and riches didn’t allude to himself, but all to the blessing of God.    Additional Scriptures in the podcast: Deuteronomy 17:16 Rules for Kings of Israel Psalm 20: “some trust in chariots and some in horses…”  Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14  Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham

Starting to drift, not stewarding what God gave him well, and that is resulting in a lack of obedience in his actions. Emma Dotter is joined today on the podcast with Wendy Park, who is today’s devo writer. Wendy challenges us with this quote, “I will be faithful to the things he has called me to be faithful to, for the time he has called me to be faithful to them.”   Want to learn more about Kaleidoscope, our additional needs ministry? S2:193 1 Kings 8

The whole point of the temple was for God to be with his people, Israel. Today Emma Dotter is joined by today’s devo writer and Watermark Elder, Ben Caldwell. These friends challenge us that we don’t want to miss the hope that is found in this passage. God brings restoration knowing full well that his people would rebel. We need to long for intimacy with God more than any temporal thing.   Additional Scriptures used in this passage:  1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”   Proverbs 13:24, “A man who spares the rod hates his son…”  Hebrews 12:11, “For the moment of all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later is yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”   Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14  Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham

S2:191 1 Kings 6

In today’s podcast, Emma Dotter walks through the continuing steps in the temple construction, and how this excerpt applies to our lives today. It has always been God’s desire to be with his people, but his presence comes with a condition: be obedient. While obedience is a necessity, and other essential aspect of the Christian life is silence. Silence before the Lord, and silence to hear Him speak.  John 1:29, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”  Hebrews 9:12, “But by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”  1 Corin. 3:16, “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”  2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.  2 Samuel 7:13, “He shall build a house for my name and I will establish that throne of his kingdom forever.”   1 Kings 1-2, Solomon rises to power.  1 Kings 3, Solomon’s power approved.  1 Kings 5:1-7, Solomon makes decisions.  1 King 5:12, Solomon’s decisions are approved.  Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14  Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham

BONUS: SONG OF SOLOMON OVERVIEW

In today’s bonus episode, Emma Dotter gives an overview of the book of Song of Solomon. The big idea being this: God’s idea for relationships is always best. S2:190 1 Kings 5

From tabernacle now to temple, the dwelling place of the God’s presence is now being permanently made. But even more amazing than that, believers today are seen as God’s temple? How is this possible? In today’s episode, Emma Dotter unpacks details about the progression of God’s presence from the tabernacle, to the temple, to in believers.   Additional Scriptures referenced in this podcast: 2 Samuel 7:2-3, 7:12-13, David desires to build the temple. 1 Kings 3:3, “Solomon loved the Lord.” John 1:14, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,”  Ephesians 1:13-14, “Sealed with he promised Holy Spirit.” 2 corinthians 4:7, “Jars of clay”  Here are two additional podcasts with context for the tabernacle: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/join-the-journey/id1600151923?i=1000608414337  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/join-the-journey/id1600151923?i=1000608766638

S2:189 1 Kings 4

The gift of wisdom that Solomon got resulted in the people he led living in safety. How are we using our gifts? Not in a way to build up ourselves, but in a way to point others to knowing something “greater”, which is the gospel of Jesus. Today, Emma Dotter and today’s devotion writer, Kristen Baker (aka KB) unpack how Solomon’s wise decision to ask for wisdom is something we can do today.   Additional Scriptures used in this podcast: Matthew 5:13-16, “Salt of the earth”  Hebrews 4:16, “Approach the throne of grace with confidence…”  Micah 4:4 & Zechariah 3:10, “Sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree…”  Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14  Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham

S2:188 1 Kings 3

Through Emma Dotter’s own personal story from high school, we see the power of Solomon’s request for wisdom. Solomon’s stunning humility in asking for wisdom resulted in life change for not only himself, but also for other people. By reminding God of his own past acts, believers have a pledge of him to come through on present needs.   James 1:2-8, “If any of you lacks wisdom.”  Grab a NEW Join The Journey Journal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7TCKPR1/ref=sr_1_14crid=3MDHUUF0FW85G&keywords=join+the+journey+volume+2&qid=1686688452&sprefix=join+the+journ%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-14  Join the Journey Jr. https://www.jointhejourney.com/jr/5781-do-you-remember-god-s-promises-to-abraham
