6 quick questions with Samantha Brett, Founder of Naked Sundays (part 2/2)

Today we’re learning from Samantha Brett who is the founder of Naked Sundays.Naked Sundays is an Australian SPF brand aimed at inspiring the next generation to love and wear SPF every single day with fun, easy to use sunscreens. This is a really inspiring story and we’re going to break down her secrets to success, what makes a brand pop and what you need to know about regulations when building a sunscreen brand.I absolutely loved hearing about why Samantha decided to keep this venture a secret from the public for 9 months. She realized that sunscreen is complex, it’s made by chemists, and she's not going to be the one in the kitchen mixing this herself. Instead she's getting someone to make the best of the best, but will anyone really take it seriously with her name on the brand? So she didn't tell anyone about being a founder. This is the first time I've heard of something like this on the show, and I find it such an interesting approach. Samantha didn’t want people to think that I was just doing this for the sake of it.Another part that made this journey a little more complicated than manufacturing your regular beauty products, is that there is a strong barrier to entry in the sunscreen space. It is classed as a medication in Australia and classed as a drug in America. Those are things to really think about before diving into the space. Even when it comes to advertising rules, you should put on a warning *reapply regularly*, on social media, podcasts, influencers, the whole mix. You can’t give a testimonial. It's pretty crazy stuff. And while I’ve got you here! One quick thing. I’m giving away copies of my book over the next 2 weeks. All you need to do is make a cute video on Tiktok about the Female Startup Club podcast; send it to me by email to hello@femalestartupclub.com and your copy will be on the way.Let’s get straight into this episode! This is Samantha for Female Startup Club**Avoid prolonged sun exposure, make sure you re-apply frequently in accordance with directions. 6 Quick Questions with Tash Todd Williams, founder of Word of Mouth Collective (part 2)

Today we’re mixing things up and learning from Tash Todd Williams, founder of digital marketing agency Word of Mouth Collective.I’ve known Tash for circa 10 years now and have had the absolute pleasure of watching her journey from launching a fashion publication that she exited before she was 24, to today running a successful digital agency with a special love for female founders and entrepreneurs. Today she’s coming on to share part of that journey and a bunch of interesting tips and advice for early-stage bootstrapped founders including where she sees a lot of small businesses go wrong, the challenges that founders have in today’s landscape post iOS apple updates when it comes paid marketing and when a small business owner should actually be looking to engage an agency. One thing we often hear on the podcast is that founders regret having spent on an agency too early on in their journey. In this episode, we explore the best time for bootstrapped founders to actually make this move and start working with an agency. At which stage in the journey it would pay off. And this is all about looking at tipping points of scale. There’s one scenario where you’ve just raised and you have a lot of capital so that’s totally separate. When you have strong KPIs to reach and the capital to get there, it makes a lot of sense to hire an agency. It's not these founders, but rather the bootstrapped founders we often hear about regretting investing in an agency early on. At this point, it becomes more about which stage of business you will be ready. If you’re running lean and doing this alone, you can come to a tipping point where you do not have the time and resources to upskill yourself and you have too many moving parts in the business. This would be the point to consider outsourcing to an agency. As Tash says, they're not in the business to bankrupt anybody. Audit yourself, audit where the business is at, and based on that draw conclusions if this actually makes sense for you.So many gems in here, I know you’re going to love her!And btw, are we friends on TikTok? I’m having so much fun on that platform, Id love to connect and see what you’re creating on there too. 7 key steps to successfully launching your product on Amazon

Hi everyone! Doone here - your host and hype girl. Thank you for tuning in to my solo episode this week.Today, I’m bringing you another workshop inspired special, brought to you through the Hype Club coffee chats. If you listen regularly you’ve heard me chatting about our Wednesday virtual coffee chats in Hype Club before and this is such a great hour of the week. It’s a chance for all the founders to catch up with each other up on their busy weeks, and an intimate place to hype and support one another. We have such an awesome group of like-minded founders early on in their journey right now, and these Wednesdays have really become a highlight of my week. This is even more so the case when we have a special guest popping in to teach us a workshop in their area of expertise. With a couple of the founders in our group looking to launch into Amazon in the near future, we invited Carina McLeod to come and teach us the initial steps to getting the hang of this tricky channel. Carina is a real expert in the space, with 20 years retail and 18 years of Amazon experience behind her. She now runs an Amazon focused agency called Ecommerce Nurse ran by a team of ex Amazonians, helping sellers and vendors grow and reach their potential on Amazon in North America and Europe. In other words, the perfect woman for the job. During our session, she broke down the seven key steps you absolutely must take into consideration if you’re to succeed on Amazon. And because I know how useful that was to all of the women in the club, I’m excited to share the general roadmap with you here today. You’ll have to tune into the episode to catch all the good bits here, but let me give you a little sneakpeek into the last step you’ve got to keep in check for Amazon success. It’s to realise your listing isn’t something that you just set up and leave to fend for itself. A set-up and leave it strategy just doesn’t work on this platform. You need to nurture it on the daily. It’s all about momentum and relevance with Amazon. What was a strategy yesterday might not be a strategy today, and you should be consistently working to optimise your listing and AB test your strategies. So, get yourself nice and familiar with the platform, because you’re in this for the long-run.Ok that’s all for today! Thank you so much for listening in. Success for Amazon is absolutely possible for everyone, and I hope this episode allows you to focus your attention on all the right areas for that initial launch. If you want to get the extended version of what I’m talking about, you can sign up to Hype Club and watch the replays of all our past workshops, including this one with Carina from Ecommerce Nurse. So let’s get into it, here are seven key steps to success on Amazon. LINKS WE MENTION:eCommerce Nurse WebsiteeCommerce Nurse InstagramCarina McLeod LinkedInFemale Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokLearn more about Dymo at Dymo.comLearn more about Athletic Greens and get your FREE gift at Athleticgreens.com/STARTUPTry Zapier for free today at zapier.com/STARTUPIn partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for ecommerce businesses.Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook GroupSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.comFemale Startup Club + Clearco: Clear.co/partner/female-star Hosted on Acast. 6 Quick Questions with Katie Wilson, founder of BelliWelli (part 2)

Today on the show we’re learning from Katie Wilson, founder of BelliWelli.BelliWelli is a functional wellness brand that offers a healthy snack alternative, while also creating a movement around the very common but rarely talked about struggle of digestive health which affects over 70% of U.S. adults. Katie saw a gap in the $280 B functional food market and set out to create a treat that was made by gut sufferers, for gut sufferers, with the FIRST gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and certified low-FODMAP bar being born. What I love about this story, is the serendipity of it all. The wildly successful billboard and merch you've probably spotted across your socials were a happy accident. It all came about because Kati knew from day one the uphill battle that she was going to have normalizing the conversation around gut issues. Many people along the way echoed "no-one is ever going to buy a food product for IBS". The billboard, "Hot Girls have IBS" came from the TikTok trends. The magic lies in the way IBS and hot girls is such a polarising thing, but it doesn't have to be. People went crazy for it. There was a line of people taking selfies at the infamous billboard. BelliWelli started selling the merch based on this, and to this day they can’t keep it in stock. This episode is so much fun, Katie is a marketing genius and shares so many learnings around how she built her communities, and grassroots initiatives to get the word out there about the brand, and the billboard that went viral. If you love this episode as much as I did recording it, remember to screenshot and share on IG to help other ears find us!LINKS WE MENTION:BelliWelli's InstagramKatie's InstagramFemale Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokLearn more about Dymo at Dymo.comLearn more about Athletic Greens and get your FREE gift at Athleticgreens.com/STARTUPTry Zapier for free today at zapier.com/STARTUPIn partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for ecommerce businesses.Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook GroupSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.comFemale Startup Club + Clearco: Clear.co/partner/female-star Hosted on Acast. 6 Quick Questions with Tara Bosch, founder of Smartsweets (part 2)

Today on the show we’re joined by Tara Bosch, founder of the wildly successful candy brand, SmartSweets.Since launching in July 2016, SmartSweets' mission to innovate delicious, low-sugar candy you can feel good about has remained the same – Kick Sugar, Keep Candy™. Envisioned as "the future of candy," SmartSweets aims to be a global leader in the sugar reduction movement by tackling one of the largest and most concerning ingredients in our everyday food – sugar. In this episode, we cover Tara’s inspiring journey from starting this business in her kitchen right through to selling a major stake in the business for $360m. It’s a wild ride and I know you’re going to learn so much from Tara!I couldn't believe how she only raised $3M to then go on to proceed with a $360M acquisition. Some seriously impressive stuff. Tara believes there to be so much stigma and idealization around raising as if that almost becomes the celebration. Realistically this can distract from the fact that the money is so you can grow your business, and those are the milestones that you should be celebrating. If you can raise no money that’s amazing, it’s much more beneficial for everyone. There are some real nuggets of wisdom here that I know will benefit a lot of you. For example, how it may look like entrepreneurs with a certain level of success have it all figured out but that's very rarely the case. Tara thought that when you got to a certain level of success you just have this unwavering confidence that you know what you're doing and you've got it all figured out. That as you scale, this feeling comes automatically. But this just isn't the case. The feeling changes, but you rarely feel like you've got it all figured out. That's just part of the entrepreneurial ride, what keeps you going in some ways, and also something that's good to accept. There’s not one event that is the silver bullet to success, just accumulation that keeps that momentum going, and the snowball getting bigger and bigger. But you still have to push that snowball. Stick around for the last part where Tara dives into her key piece of advice for entrepreneurs entering the candy space. For her, having a radical value proposition is one of the reasons at the heart of why SmartSweets scaled so quickly, and why they're continuing to be the market leader. To have a massively successful product and simultaneously better the world you have to take something that exists and create so much radical value that for people it’s reinventing the wheel in a very meaningful way, that sparks the emotional response of someone to your product. Make sure you have that radical value proposition. If you love this episode remember to screenshot and share on Instagram stories to help other ears find us.LINKS WE MENTIONSmartsweets InstagramFemale Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokTim Ferriss' BlogPeter Thiel's Zero to OneFelix Dennis' How To Get RichLearn more about Dymo at Dymo.comLearn more about Athletic Greens and get your FREE gift at Athleticgreens.com/STARTUPTry Zapier for free today at zapier.com/STARTUPIn partnership with Klaviyo, the best email marketing tool for ecommerce businesses.Female Startup Club's YouTubeFemale Startup Club’s Private Facebook GroupSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.comFemale Startup Club + Clearco: Clear.co/partner/female-star Hosted on Acast.
