Producing the Metals the UK Needs for the Green Revolution in the UK - Interview with Brett Grist

In this episode, we chat with Brett Grist, the Exploration Manager of Cornwall Resources who are focusing on the Redmoor Tin/Tungsten/Copper mining project located in eastern Cornwall, SW of England. The company is owned by AIM-listed Strategic Minerals PLC.   Brett has a background as a Geologist. He has more than 20 years of experience in exploration and mining project development. Playing a leading role in projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Including taking projects from early exploration through feasibility and into development. He also co-chairs the UK mining group of the Critical Minerals Association.   Brett shares his career and overcoming a tragedy by developing leukaemia to now leading the way in putting Cornwall on the mining map. He explains the developments they are making with Cornwall Resources. How they are forging partnerships with Camborne School of Mines. At a time when government assistance is slowly coming to fruition. These are exciting times for the Cornwall region and perhaps the rest of the UK when it comes to the mining industry.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   The idea that Cornwall has been all mined out is most definitely not correct. Cornwall Resources is looking mainly for tungsten and copper. Quite a lot of discovery work was done in the mid-80s, but a drop in prices stopped the deposits from being mined. Cornwall Resources is gathering and creating mining data in digital formats. Cornwall is one of the heavily mined areas. Yet, it is also one of the most under-explored areas. There is the potential for the UK to home produce the metals they need for the green revolution. It is time for companies to come together and lobby the government, so they understand the opportunity and make things easier. The UK has plenty of people with the right exploration and mining skills. Working out who has the mineral rights in the UK is still quite a fragmented process, which can be time-consuming. We still need to educate the public about how vital mining is to society. Work with the community to find solutions. For example, putting a straw bale wall up solve their drill rig noise issue.   BEST MOMENTS ‘You adapt, work out how to do it and find good people to work with. ´ ‘Many people say “Cornwall, it´s all been mined out hasn´t it” Well, that´s not the case.’ ‘In Cornwall, the planning authorities are generally supportive.’ ‘Modern mining is a different thing. We need to get that message out.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://www.cornwallresources.com LinkedIn: Brett Grist - Exploration Manager - Cornwall Resources Limited | LinkedIn Email: info@cornwallresources.com https://www.anthonynolan.org/    VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3   ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. How Inflatable Packers are Transforming the Mining Industry with Clem Rowe

In this episode, we chat to Clem Rowe, Managing Director at IPI Packers who are a leading designer and manufacturer of down-hole products with distinctly different inflatable packer technology. These inflatable packers can be used in mining for rock burst mitigation, block caving hydro-fracture, remote or deep permeability testing, rock-stress testing and also custom-made solutions to fit your requirements.   Clem has over 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of inflatable packers and discusses how their products are used and can benefit the mining industry in a variety of ways.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The best way to think of an inflatable packer is as a balloon on a stick, that can be inserted into a hole and inflated. Inflatable packers are an especially flexible, strong, durable, and often easy to deploy form of packing. Permeability testing is one of the largest uses of inflatable packers within the mining industry. They can also be used for pre-conditioning. Inflatable packers are also a good fit for solution mining. During the podcast, Clem explains the benefits of their innovative Standard Wireline Packer System (SWiPS®). IPI´s unique software package enables them to predict what will happen when their system is applied and plan accordingly. Even with CoVid, IPI Packers turnover has doubled. They are continuing to expand fast with new facilities opening across the globe.     BEST MOMENTS ‘We´re doing our best to prove that our inflatable packers are the best high-performance choice in all applications. ´ ‘It uses water to inflate the backhoe instead of gas.’ ‘Every product we produce is in some way an innovation.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://www.inflatable-packers.com/IPI/index  LinkedIn: IPI Packers | LinkedIn  Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/IPI-Packers-546485666271740/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/ipipackers    VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org  https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/  http://www.mining-international.org  https://twitter.com/MiningConsult  https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3      ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Understanding Native Title and Handling It Correctly with Ric Davies

In this episode, we chat with Ric Davies, a specialist and expert in native title within the mining industry. He has a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years. Ric understands native title at State and at Federal level. He covers everything including exploration, mining, infrastructure, and has particular expertise in Aboriginal Land.   Ric prides himself on taking a can-do, common-sense approach to cooperative development. During the podcast, he provides a wider understanding of native titles. Including common issues and how to best overcome these challenges. Giving you some hints and tips, you can use to successfully negotiate these agreements. An insightful episode where the common theme seems to be building relationships with landowners. KEY TAKEAWAYS The mining on native lands landscape has changed hugely in the past 20 years. Many mining companies are negative about native title, despite the fact that its existence also generates opportunities. Heritage surveys offer benefits. They uncover all kinds of new information and artefacts. Usually, once you get face to face and build a relationship you can solve any issues. Don’t be scared of the process. Following it takes time, but it works. There is a huge need for people with a proper understanding of mining and native titles to work in the industry. Each indigenous group is different. Even in the same country, you will need to adapt your approach in each area. Interacting with the community early is essential. As is regularly updating them. Not being truthful backfires. The destruction of the Juukan cave heritage site is bound to lead to drastic change. Indigenous groups are now better organised. They are taking the initiative and commercialising their rights, taking on the role of partners. More indigenous people are working in the mining industry, and they are starting to take on more senior roles. The mining industry will adapt. It has always evolved and will do so in this case. BEST MOMENTS ‘Negotiations were driven by lawyers, who knew everything about the law but knew nothing about mining. ´ ‘Groups will judge you on things, not words… get out there and talk to people.’ ‘I think there are going to be big changes coming.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Website: http://www.daviesanddavies.com.au/ LinkedIn: https://au.linkedin.com/in/ric-davies-6b539468 Email: office@daviesanddavies.com.au   VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Ways To Get Into The Commodity Bull Market - Interview With Steve Penny

In this episode, we chat to Steve Penny again who appeared in Episode 124 back in March this year. You may want to listen to that episode as well, after listening to this. Steve is a full-time commodity investor specialising predominately in precious metals and uranium stocks. Someone Rob has been personally following since last year. He is a paid member of his newsletter “The Silverchartlist” where he shares useful tips on investing. Where Steve shows the actual trades he is making in real-time. As well as updating his subscribers on current market trends across a handful of commodities. He writes two newsletters. One is free, the other has a very low cost paid newsletter. They are both invaluable and provide an insight into a basket of selected mining stocks. In them, he provides commentary on what these stocks are doing. He gives us an update on the precious metals and Uranium market but more importantly, also educate us on investing in mining stocks. Rob started investing late last year and certainly understands a lot more about commodity investing. He is sure he will do well as we enter a commodities bull-market over the coming years.   KEY TAKEAWAYS With the right guidance, it is possible to invest successfully in commodities even if you are not involved in the mining industry Recently the market fell back a bit, this is helping to adjust things to better reflect reality A lower market makes it easier for new investors to get involved Silver and gold always thrive when governments are indebted. Steve explains how that works, in the podcast. Uranium is particularly interesting because of what is happening to nuclear power. Battery metals have a lot of potential. Steve talks about some of them in more detail during the podcast. Commodities have never been so cheap relative to other investment vehicles. When it comes to commodity investing, there is nothing wrong with using an ETF to get started. Steve´s free newsletter is a good way to build your knowledge of the commodities market or get started as an investor.   BEST MOMENTS ‘It also gives new participants the opportunity to begin to accumulate positions. ´ ‘Commodities have never been so cheap relative to general equities and real estate.’ ‘You want to accumulate before the big pop. Because when it goes, they will go fast.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Click here to subscribe to his free newsletter to see what he is doing:  https://lddy.no/10e6q   VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org  https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3   ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. An Update on the State of Gold - Interview with Krishan Gopaul of the World Gold Council

In today´s episode, we have a returning guest, Krishan Gopaul who is the Market Intelligence Manager at the World Gold Council.   He talks about the Gold Demand Trends quarterly report for Q1 2021, and what’s been happening in the world of gold over the last few months. He briefly talks about the history of gold and why it’s been valued throughout history.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   There is still a strengthening demand for gold. This is the case for gold coins and jewellery too. Central banks are continuing to buy gold. Including some that have not bought much over the past few years. Krishan explains why that is during the podcast. Interest rates have played a huge role in driving gold investment, especially for private investors. Fear of inflation is playing a role. Gold is still a popular hedging product. Mine production is continuing to recover from the CoVid crisis. Gold recycling is helping to balance the market and stop demand from outstripping supply too much. Greater job creation and higher wages are set to further boost the gold jewellery sector. Gold has worked as a currency since 500 BC. In some parts of the world, it is still used as an unofficial currency. Since the 2000s new gold markets have emerged e.g., small consumers in China. Gold is unlikely to see its reputation change anytime soon. It is seen as a source of safety as well as returns. BEST MOMENTS “Interest rates have played a huge role in driving gold investment. ´ ’The market has shifted to a much more balanced picture, not so heavily weighted towards jewellery.’ ‘500/600 BC is when we started to see gold coinage.’   EPISODE RESOURCES Krishan Gopaul - https://www.gold.org/goldhub/research/our-research-team/krishan-gopaul Twitter - https://twitter.com/goldcouncil Website - https://www.gold.org/   VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Robots Capable of Mapping Any Mine Including Those Under Water -Interview with Richard Papp

In this episode, we chat with Richard Papp, Managing Director at UNEXMIN Geo-Robotics, a company that is a private spin-off arising from the U-NEX-MIN project and that has the IP of the robotic platform they have produced. The company is pioneering surveying solutions for flooded environments. During the podcast, Richard, who has a background in geology and geophysics, is going to talk about the exciting and innovative advances they are making in geo-robotics. Including, how this can be used in the mining sector in both underground and open-pit mines.  Providing solutions for areas of any type of mine that are under water. KEY TAKEAWAYS Submersibles makes it possible to explore and assess flooded mines. In the EU alone there are 30,000+ closed mines. Many of which have since flooded, so the potential market for UNEXMIN is huge. Many of these mines have the potential to be re-opened using new technology. The rising demand for most metals and minerals is pushing the price up making resurrecting old mines viable and desirable. The robots are fitted with multiple systems which makes them robust, highly manoeuvrable, precise, and easy to direct accurately. Robots can dive in places humans can´t. There are several other markets outside of mining for these diving and exploring robots. The robots can also be used for water and chemical sampling. They can create 3D maps of any mining facility, tunnel, or cave. When specialist cameras are used it is possible to detect what minerals are left in the mine. Rock sampling capabilities are also in development. The robots can be used in any kind of water. But there are some temperature limitations. The robot is modular, which makes it versatile and enables users to choose what type of information they collect. BEST MOMENTS ‘In the European Union, there are 30,000 closed mines that could now be viable again. Many of them are flooded. ´ ‘Based on the scientific data we collect we can make extremely detailed 3D models.’ ‘By using multispectral and hyperspectral cameras it is also possible to detect what minerals are left in the mine.’ EPISODE RESOURCES Website: https://unexmin-georobotics.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unexmin-georobotics/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unexmin/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UNEXUP Website: https://unexup.eu/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/unexup_eit Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/unexup_eit/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1azd5LxBBaa6_6C-nsbEQ/videos   VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3   ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first world to third world countries from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
