Use Mindfulness To Pivot During Anxious Times

Welcome to Mindfulness Mode and welcome to this special edition. I want to share some thoughts and ideas with you as we move through covid19. I mean, it's such a challenging time for a lot of people and, and it may not be for you, maybe it's not challenging for you at all, but there's one thing that I totally believe in. I think most people who are realists believe this. I'm not a pessimist. I can be an optimist, but I consider myself a realist. And that is that our world has changed in a major way. It is changed in a monumental way and we're going to start to see over the next few months what those ways really are. But man, wow, I was out today. I was in a store, one of the very, very few that's still open.
Bruce (01:03):
And I will tell you that people are so hesitant to be anywhere near each other, which is good because we must practice social distancing. We must do that to flatten the curve. But I mean, fear is settling into people. And, and I understand that completely because in my family we have some fears, we have a lot of fears, especially with my wife being a critical care nurse and working on the front lines and going in and have them tell her that, you know, she's only going to be given, you know, three masks for a 12-hour shift or two masks or a 12-hour shift or that there are only enough of those kinds of protective devices to last for a few more days. Man, that is scary. And my wife is not an alarmist, so I mean these are, these are challenging times. There's no question about it.

Of course it has made me more calm and more disciplined but I think the most important thing is that when I do my mindfulness protocol I teach myself to concentrate on one thought.
I take the muscle that I develop through this and use it in the other hours of my day. I can apply it to my work or to any other experience like a conversation.

I had a short experience with bullying back in grade 4 in Russia.
There were 4 boys in my class who came from disfunctional families. One day they decided that we were supposed to pay money to them.
One day we gathered in the school yard and one of the good boys was so courageous and he stood up and fought those bad boys.
Someone from the good boys group went to their parents and told them and the classroom teacher resolved it very quickly.

COVID19 Calm Guided Meditation
Today, I offer a guided meditation where
I will help find your calm, your place of peace.
I’m going to take you to a place where calm exists constantly.
Let’s take a walk. We’ve arrived at a wooded area where
the trees and the plants are vibrant and full of life,
The air is fresh and clean and
there are huge, healthy ferns all along the pathway.
The ferns and plants are covering the floor of the forest.
You walk casually, you feel calm. The level of calm is increasing by the minute,
You notice a feeling of relaxation in your forehead and eyes.
Your jaw begins to relax. You pause and enjoy the feeling of letting go,
Letting go of tension and stress, letting go of what’s not feeding and nourishing you.
You remember to notice your breath and you are grateful as you fill your lungs with air.
This is a calm, relaxing, peaceful place.
Your gratitude level increases and you feel strong and in control.
The pathway is leading you toward a beautiful sound,
the sound of water, the sound of waves.
You walk a little more and the sound increases,
The sound is feeding your soul and ….
