Honouring the process versus your desire for new

As entrepreneurs we love the new, the exciting, the ideas, the adrenalin, and the change. But sometimes, these characteristics that make us successful in the first place, can be our downfall when it comes to maintaining momentum in our business - and giving a process long enough to really work. Our desire for new can stop us honouring the process when things are working - and so we can “break” parts of our business to keep us experiencing a sense of adrenaline and excitement. In this episode, I share how to overcome this and why it’s such important work to do as we mature as business owners.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to Clients Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients: Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? 3 strategies for more consistent revenue

It’s very common for small business owners to have peaks and troughs in their revenue and their client work. They will have a spike in enquiries, which leads to a busier time of work and a boost in revenue, followed by a quieter period when the enquiries, clients and revenue feel as though they have dried up.In this episode, I discuss why this happens and three strategies to create more consistency in your revenue - and client work - in your business.Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to Clients Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients: Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? How to attract your first few clients

In last week’s episode - we looked at the ONLY three things you need to start making money in your business. We explored how once you are building momentum in your business and clients are starting to come to you, marketing strategies including creating strategic content, a high converting website, clear offer ecosystem, and an email funnel will SPEED UP your first $100k - and how we cover all of this in The Modern Marketing Collective Curriculum. But focussing on these things will SLOW YOU DOWN if you haven't got to a stage where clients start coming to you. This is why I created the $2k Challenge as the first step in The Modern Marketing Collective - to strip it all back to ONLY what you need to make your first $2k in business. In this episode, I’m sharing how to attract those first few clients. Many new business owners are too passive in this process. And we can diagnose this by asking just one question:Are clients actively coming to you?I.e. Are people reaching out to work with you and then paying you to help them?If your answer is “no” to this question, then there’s just one thing you need to focus on: you need to go directly to clients. You do not WAIT for clients to come to you: you need to be active in attracting clients.I share how in this episode.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to ClientsJoin The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clientsBooked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? The only 3 things you need to start making money from your services

Most service business owners are overcomplicating making money in their business - especially when they are just getting started. They are worrying about getting a website, a suite of offers, lead magnets, a content strategy and more. Here's the thing: ALL of these strategies can make you MORE money. But you need NONE of these things to START making money.Once you are building momentum in your business and clients are starting to come to you, creating strategic content, a high converting website and an email funnel will SPEED up your path to your first $100k. But focussing on these things before you are making money will SLOW you down. This is why you're not making money now. You’re focussing your attention on the wrong strategies for the stage in business you are at. You think that making money in your business should be more complicated than it really is. And so you are making it more complicated than it is.When really it's simple. You don’t need to have 12 months of content mapped out. You don’t need an email funnel. You don’t need a high converting website. In this episode I, share the only 3 things you need to start making money now in your business, plus how one of our students from The Modern Marketing Collective applied this process and had her biggest revenue month in business.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to Clients Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? 3 helpful thoughts to overcome content perfectionism

Allowing your content to be public when you don’t think it’s perfect is uncomfortable. But not as uncomfortable as spending hours perfecting content… and not having any clients.I wouldn’t have a podcast if I allowed myself to indulge in content perfection.Firstly because I would never send an episode to my editor because I would never be able to think up and record a perfect episode. And secondly because even if I did have episodes to publish, I would delete all the episodes after they were published because I wouldn’t think any of them are perfect! For many of my clients, the pressure they put on themselves to produce perfect content is holding them back from growing their business. They aren’t sharing content, which means their audience isn’t growing, they aren’t connecting with their audience, their enquiries aren’t increasing and they aren’t booking more clients. In this episode, we are exploring three powerful thoughts to help you move past your content perfectionism so you can consistently share value with your audience, and in turn, see more results for your business.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to Clients: Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients: Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? How to stop working for free for clients

When we are starting out in business, we are often so excited to have any opportunity to do the work we love. We may offer what we do for free to those around us. And this can feel like such a positive; a fantastic opportunity; and really exciting to us.This can also benefit us by helping us build our confidence, experience and processes in our businesses… versus no work at all.Soon. when we do take on our first paying clients, often this eagerness we have to do the work we love - and sometimes our desire to please our clients - can allow more work than we first agreed on to creep into what we are doing.Or we didn’t have a clear agreement around how much work we would do, at all.We can feel as though we are grateful to our clients for choosing to work with us, and for giving us an opportunity. However, over time, as we work for free or overwork for the amount we are paid, we start to either resent our work, our clients or both.We can also find ourselves in a position where we don’t have more capacity to take on paid work, because we are overworking, and being underpaid for our existing clients. So how do we stop working for free, or overworking for our clients? We explore exactly this in this episode.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren’t Converting to Clients: Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? Should I start my business by working with clients or launching a course?

For many of my clients, their end goal is to help more people than they can with one- on-one clients, by creating a leveraged revenue stream in their business in the form of an online program. However! What often happens, is that they skip ahead before their business is ready by creating and launching an online program, without having demand for it.This can leave them without solid revenue (or any revenue at all) coming into the business, and a lot of unneeded stress in trying to sell something that their business - and audience - isn’t ready for just yet.In this episode, I discuss the order of building a business that I recommend to my clients and why; the key benefits of working with clients before launching a program; and how important it is to create offerings based on demand from our audience. If you are not yet booked out with clients, join The Modern Marketing Collective at emilyosmond.com/collectiveIf you are booked out with clients and want to scale with an online program, join the waitlist for Scalable Mastermind at emilyosmond.com/scalable
