New Culture Forum
"Having the deeper discussions mainstream media won't provide."
Founded in 2006, the NCF is one of Britain's leading conservative think tanks. Our mission is to challenge the cultural orthodoxies dominant in our institutions, public life and wider culture.
So What You're Saying Is... (#SWYSI) is our weekly interview programme, NewSpeak is our weekly "in-house" discussion show, and CounterCulture is our panel discussion with experts and significant figures from the political, cultural and academic worlds.
Our goal is to provide what the MSM won't: a platform for leading voices & experts from politics, culture, academia etc. to engage in calm, constructive and enlightening discussions on the most critical issues of today.

Michael Collins: The Demonisation of the White Working Class
On this week's #SWYSI, our guest is Michael Collins, author of "Likes of Us: A Biography of the White Working Class" (in which he argues that in the wake of the Stephen Lawrence inquiry, the white working class were cast as wholesale racist cattle by the liberal press whilst the rightwing press mocked their tastes and attitudes).
Brought up in London's Elephant and Castle, where his family had lived for generations, Collins believes that middle-class condescension towards the white working class is nothing new. Missionaries from other classes have always descended to study, influence, patronise, politicise, socially engineer, and now to demonise them.

Has The Church's Shocking Response To BLM & Covid Shown It's No Longer Fit For Purpose?
In response to the #BLM protests, The Archbishop of Canterbury has called for a review of statues in Anglican churches and cathedrals. He also called on the Church of England (of which he is principal leader) to reconsider its artistic portrayal of Jesus as white (even though other cultures depict Jesus as black, Chinese etc. etc. ). Shortly after, an ancient cathedral choir was reported to be disbanding due to lack of diversity.
This comes at a time when the gap between clergy & laity seems to grow ever wider. Despite the fact that the majority of people who attend Anglican church services voted for Brexit and hold generally conservative views, the Archbishop and his fellow bishops have also used the pulpit to denounce Brexit, criticise capitalism, promote immigration/open borders and oppose specific policies of the Conservative government such as Universal Credit.
Many believe the Church has also failed in its duty to minister to the needs of its followers during the Covid-19 crisis (the greatest crisis since World War Two), when all church buildings were closed *before* the government lockdown. In the midst of such suffering and sorrow, many faithful sought spirtual as much as physical healing -- yet they found the doors to their places of worship locked.
Joining Peter Whittle to discuss this are:
* Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, Historian & Broadcaster
* Benjamin Loughnane, Theologian & Consultant
* Marc Sidwell, Deputy Editor of Smith Magazine & author of our new publication "The Long March"

Laurence Fox: The Battle Of Our Time Is A Defence Of Britain & Its Values
Laurence Fox first appeared on "So What You're Saying Is..." a few weeks before his celebrated -- to some, controversial -- appearance on BBC Question Time. He now returns to the #SWYSI sofa to tell us what impact the subsequent storm of controversy has had on his life, his family & career and, indeed, on his own outlook on life & society.
Disturbed by both Black Lives Matter & Extinction Rebellion, Laurence discusses the damage woke ideology is causing to British institutions (including RADA, from which he graduated), the nation and its heritage.
He dismisses the fragility, narrow mindedness & arrogance of the progressive woke extremists but believes they & their religious fervour shall become increasingly irrelevant to society as the public switch to multi-platformed new media.
Laurence & Peter Whittle also discuss our reaction to Covid-19, whether the lockdown, fear & continuing measures are an over-reaction and when or if we shall ever return to a state of normality.

Ex - Met Police Chief: Police Leaders Have Lost The Confidence Of Their Front Line Police Officers.
On this episode of "So What You're Saying Is..." our guest is Kevin Hurley, the former police & crime commissioner & ex- Met Police chief who recently made headlines after Sky News's Adam Boulton seemed to cut him off for saying that officers have 'given up' trying to stop young black men carrying weapons and accusing #BLM of aiming to destabilise society.
Hugely disturbed by recent scenes of police retreating or running away from scenes of mass anti-social behaviour, the former detective superintendent believes that constables have 'given up' enforcing the law on young black Britons for fear of jeopardising their careers.
Policing in the UK, he believes, has changed since the huge riots of 2011, which he regards as a "crushing defeat" and an appalling failure of strategic leadership and preparation. The police tactic then and since appears to be one of simply waiting for rioters to get tired.
Mr. Hurley argues that the senior leadership of the police are the root of the problem and have lost the confidence of the rest of the police force (constables and sergeants etc.). The police who are in the front line have become demoralised by the actions and statements of their leaders, he continues. #SWYSI

Marc Sidwell Reads From His Book: The Long March - How The Left Won The Culture War
The New Culture Forum's publication "The Long March Through The Institutions: How the Left Won the Culture War & What To Do About It" may be downloaded free of charge from our website: http://newcultureforum.org.uk (Direct link: http://www.newcultureforum.org.uk/ass...). Hard copies may be purchased by making a £10 donation also via the website (further details please email: contact@newcultureforum.org.uk)
How does culture shape political power? Many Conservatives now fear that victory at the ballot box is not enough. Despite Boris Johnson’s triumph in the 2019 election, they sense that a larger cultural battle has been lost. Some accuse the left of mounting a secret, slow-motion takeover, inspired by the ideas of the Italian communist Antonio Gramsci – the ‘long march through the institutions’.
The New Culture Forum's new book by Marc Sidwell uncovers the truth: a tangled history in which active subversion runs alongside unintended consequences and missed opportunities. Armed with a clearer understanding of the left’s long march, it also reveals new possibilities for fighting back.
In this video, author Marc Sidwell reads from the above publication.
