Dr. Stephanie Gray shares her knowledge and expertise to help us figure out some of the root causes of our health problems and the ways in which we can fix them.Visit https://holisticwellness.ca/podcast for complete show notes of every podcast episodeTopics Discussed in this Episode:The house blueprint analogy to taking care of your body’s healthThe difference between synthetic hormones and bioidentical hormonesThe link between hormones and autoimmunityWhere bioidentical hormones have the greatest impactWho should not use bioidentical hormonesWhat monitoring your hormones look likeThe important areas we need to focus on in order to support our hormones naturallyThe different types of testing options and when to get themKey Takeaways:Just because someone has had a hysterectomy, it doesn’t mean she automatically needs to take hormones, especially high doses of hormones. There is a huge role for hormone replacement therapy in the autoimmune community. Studies show that the higher your hormone levels get, the more reduced your autoimmune symptoms will be.Progesterone is the most soothing, calming hormone. It is great for sleep, it is great for anxiety, and it is great for bone density. But it is the first hormone to decline and can start declining as early as our late 20s.Boosting the estrogen can help get rid of menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, and help with memory and cognition.Testosterone is just as important for women as it is for men and help with mood, motivation, drive, libido, and energy. You need a functional medicine practitioner to help you rebuild your body. Action Steps:Get blood work done to assess your hormone levels.Depending on your situation, consider getting hormone replacement therapy.Make lifestyles changes by allotting time for meditation, yoga and/or deep breathing.Fix your nutritional deficiencies by taking supplements as needed.Focus on reducing your toxin exposure.Do a liver detox.Stephanie said:“Stress is your body’s biggest hormone hijacker. Inflammation and Your Hormones, Hot Detoxing & Powerful Healing Remedies

Visit https://holisticwellness.ca/podcast for complete show notes of every podcast episodeAre you curious about what anti-inflammatory living is like? Find out and get into the anti-inflammatory diet and nutrition with Julie Daniluk as she shares her discovery and understanding of the healing powers of food through her own healing recovery. Enjoy!Topics Discussed in this Episode:Food intolerance testing versus food eliminationFavorite sweeteners and sweeteners to avoidHow inflammation affects hormonal healthFavorite nutrients for hormonal healthSome of the biggest nutrition misconceptionsWhat to cook for someone who you’re trying to convert to a healthy lifestyleHealthy on-the-go snacks and the anti-inflammatory dietKey Takeaways:Don’t be surprised if the very foods that you crave constantly are your biggest allergy foods because of the overexposure. When we eat something that we’re addicted to and we’re allergic to, we end up with a massive surge of adrenalin because adrenalin is our natural way of compensating for the allergic reaction.Gluten is never an 80/20 rule. You’re either on gluten or off gluten. Because the danger of just being off gluten five days a week is you’re just torturing yourself but you’re not getting any of the benefits.A balanced diet is really working in that zone of 33% fat, 33% protein, 33% carbohydrate. If you have the accountability of a fitness tracker and you really share that journey with somebody, it’s a 100% game changer.Action Steps:Start journaling what you’re eating and discover what foods make you feel amazing and what foods you need to let go of.Check if cane sugar is your kryptonite.Eat an anti-inflammatory menu.Double down on your efforts to stay off of gluten for a minimum of two months to see whether it does have an impact on helping you with whatever health issue you have.Get a sense of the hidden sources of sucrose and other sugars in the food that you’re eating.Steer clear of the pre-prepared salad dressings that have soya oil or canola oil as the primary ingredient.Make sure you’re using real olive oil. Be careful of fake olive oil that’s being sold in conventional grocery stores.Julie said:“Food addicts make great nutritionists because you have the compassion to be in the shoes of your client… then they can have hope that breaking up with sugar is possible for them because, on the other side of that, you’re breaking out of food prison.”“When you’re addicted to food, you’re in food prison. And when you’re in a diet, you’re in food prison. But what we want is to move you into that place of freedom.”Thanks for listening! As always, if you have any questions, you can ask me over on Instagram, @holisticwellnessfoodie, or submit your questions for future Q&A episodes over at https://holisticwellness.ca/contact/. Ditching Diets, Eating #RealAssFood and Intuitive Eating

What drives your attitude towards food? Do you sometimes resort to stress eating or emotional eating? How can we become intuitive eaters? Nutritionist and emotional eating coach Rachel Molenda shares her knowledge about all these and more.Topics Discussed in this Episode:Why we need to understand the emotions that are driving our behaviors towards food before we tackle nutritionWhy intuitive eating is the most sustainable eating styleThe steps towards intuitive eating that Rachel implemented for herselfWhere to begin to address emotional eatingHow Rachel brings the nutritional aspect to emotional eating in her practiceWhy chasing a number on a scale is detrimentalEnjoying food while travelingSteps that you can take towards practicing body neutrality and intuitive eatingKey Takeaways:People have a deeply-rooted emotional connection to food, and until we unlock what’s actually driving our behaviors towards food, treatment plan aren’t going to matter. The problem with nutrition sometimes is we’re either doing it right and we’re being healthy, or we’re doing it wrong and we’re being unhealthy. No one makes room for the in-between or that flexible zone, which leads to a lot of negative reactive behavior.Emotional hunger can be anything from needing more socialization or needing more fun or needing more stress-relief.Intuitive eating disregards any restrictive diet plan that’s out there. It’s ultimately saying to push those diets aside because your body knows what is best.Weight loss as a measure of health doesn’t make sense. There are so many other determining factors of health. Action Steps:Become an intuitive eater, find your food freedom, and eat in a way that makes you feel good, that doesn’t feel restrictive or makes you feel crazy about food.Move away from using food as a crutch and understand how you’re using it.If you’re an emotional eater, get a coaching support.Keep a food journal or a diet diary.Find foods that you genuinely enjoy.Practice self-love and self-compassion.Rachel said:“If body love or body positivity isn’t accessible to you on any given day, practice body neutrality. Which is essentially saying you don’t have to love the crap out of your body right now, but let’s not hate it either... Let’s start on a foundation of self-love and respect.”“There’s a lot of pressure from maybe social media… you know, that comparison is very much there. But comparison is also the thief of joy.”Thanks for listening!I hope to see you in the Summer Hormone Detox Program! Your Summer Hormone Detox

Are you having hormonal issues that you’re looking to overcome? How can you start eliminating the symptoms that you’re having? My Summer Hormone Detox Program may just be what you need! Find out what it’s all about and get the support that you’re looking for!Topics Discussed in this Episode:What my Summer Hormone Detox Program is all aboutWho my Summer Hormone Detox Program is forAll the goodies that you can get from my Summer Hormone Detox ProgramWhat you can expect from the Hormone and Support MasterclassKey Takeaways:The Summer Hormone Detox Program is a program that uses nutrition as a foundation. You get a 7-day detox meal plan that works specifically to detox out excess estrogen, support liver detoxification and support your thyroid.Your hormones need fat to function and they also balance and stabilize your blood sugar, so you really do need to include those healthy fats in your diet.Following the meal plan for 7 days doesn’t mean that you’re going to eliminate all your symptoms in 7 days. It’s about creating that foundation so that you can start eliminating these symptoms over time. The more frequently we eat throughout the day, the more we spike our blood sugar and the more chances of causing imbalanced hormones and putting on weight.Action Steps:Make a commitment to spend more time outdoors and get your daily dose of Vitamin D.Enjoy Mother Nature by going outside and breathing in fresh air, and maybe getting your feet on the grass or swimming in the lake.Support your liver in the detoxification process by giving it the amino acids that it needs and getting in lots of antioxidants in your diet.Cut back on snacking and just stick to eating three meals a day. But if you really can’t help it, choose the right snacks that are going to help support and balance your blood sugar.Samantha said:“It’s really about empowering you so that you can better understand your hormonal health and your physiology and really make empowered choices for yourself… It’s really about creating this trickle-down effect so that we can all heal and support each other…”“When it comes to balancing hormones, what goes on the skin goes in. And we really need to support our hormonal health by ditching the beauty care chemicals and the toxins.”Thanks for listening!I hope to see you in the Summer Hormone Detox Program! Pre-Conception Planning + Culinary Nutrition

What does preconception planning look like, and when is the best time to start? Toronto-based author, speaker, nutritionist, and founder of the Academy of Culinary Nutrition Meghan Telpner shares her own experience with preconception planning, miscarriage and pregnancy, and post-pregnancy. Hopefully, you, too, will be empowered to become your own best health expert and be inspired to find your own unique path to optimal health.Topics Discussed in this Episode:The UnDiet revolutionHow Meghan’s own diet transitioned from diet to undietMeghan’s experience with miscarriageWhat preconception planning looks likeThe essentials you need to have during pregnancyHow to manage your diet post-pregnancyDiet for babiesKey Takeaways:The best time to start to start preconception planning is right now. There are people who have healthy vegan pregnancies, but if your body is not getting the fats that you need and your body is asking for more protein and fat, it can be really challenging. It’s important not to deny what your body is naturally trying to communicate that it needs and to follow what you feel is best for you and your baby.Through anecdotal evidence, it seems that a miscarriage is incredibly common before sustaining a healthy pregnancy. The pill is completely toxic and will mess with your hormones potentially for the rest of your life unless you take active measures to clean up the damage that it does nutrient-wise and hormonally-wise.The most effective way that women detoxify is through the placenta, into their unborn child, so the least amount of chemicals that end up in your body, the less work you have to do immediately before becoming pregnant. The microbiome of your gut becomes the first microbiome of your child. If you’re bringing a human into the world, the least you can do is get the toxins out of your life.Action Steps:Modify your diet according to what works best for you.Detoxify and start living a clean lifestyle. Get rid of the products that contain toxic and unsafe ingredients.Always have good protein sources and healthy snacks in your pantry.Meghan said:“I think that if we can bring humor and fun and joy into the process of living our lives, that’s beyond half the batter towards feeling good inside and out.”“The time to start preconception planning is today. It doesn’t matter how old you are. If you’re 15 or you’re 25 or you’re 35, if you want to have children in your lifetime, you have to start now.”Thanks for listening! As always, if you have any questions, you can ask me over on Instagram, @holisticwellnessfoodie, or submit your questions for future Q&A episodes over at https://holisticwellness.ca/contact/. How to Test for Hormonal Imbalances

Do you find yourself waking up with anxiety or being unable to sleep at night? Or do you have trouble losing weight no matter how hard you try? Dr. Carrie Jones talks about some of the problems caused by hormonal imbalances and how the DUTCH Test can help us find solutions to these issues. Hopefully, this will help you gain some insights into the different puzzles that make up our health, our hormones, and our vitality.Topics Discussed in this Episode:What is the DUTCH Test? What happens when your hormones go down a bad pathway and what can you do about it?How long after implementing some strategies to address your hormones can you do a re-test?Does blood testing serve a purpose? When is the right time in your cycle should you get testing done? What is cycle mapping and what can you get from it?Why is it important that your liver metabolizes your hormones? What is the difference between cortisol and cortisone? What does it mean when you have very low levels of free cortisol and high levels of metabolized cortisol and vice versa?Key Takeaways:DUTCH stands for Dry Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones, a test that shows whether your hormones are going down a bad pathway, which allows you to become proactive and do something about it.Women can have a hormonal imbalance at any age; and men can have a hormonal imbalance, too.More recently, the DUTCH Tests have been updated to include nutritional organic acids and the neurotransmitter metabolites. The cortisol awakening response is where your cortisol is supposed to shoot up in the first 30 to 60 minutes of when you wake up. And if you don’t get it right, if it stays low or if it shoots up too high, then you’re not going to get anything else right.Action Steps:Consider doing a DUTCH Test.Take the necessary steps to balance your hormones and make sure they’re going down the good pathway.Dr. Carrie Jones said:“Your genes, they dictate a lot, but there’s a lot you can do to change it. And just because you have the mutation, it doesn’t mean everything is 100%... Just because you have the mutation, it’s entirely possible other things have made up for it.”“Hormones are a luxury but stress is not. The body is designed to deal with fight or flight, and whether or not you ovulate has no bearing on you living. You can not ovulate for the rest of your life and you will still live, but if don’t have cortisol, you will die.”Samantha said:“Your genes load the gun but your lifestyle pulls the trigger.”Thanks for listening! As always, if you have any questions, you can ask me over on Instagram, @holisticwellnessfoodie, or submit your questions for future Q&A episodes over at https://holisticwellness.ca/contact/. AIP Diet + Coffee Enemas + Working Out + Thinning Hair & Your Thyroid

I have another Q&A episode in store for you today! I love doing these episodes because I love answering your questions, so keep them coming and enjoy the podcast!Topics Discussed in this Episode:What is the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) diet? What is a coffee enema and how is it the same as or different from a colonic?Should you work out if you have adrenal fatigue? What do you use on your hair when you notice that it’s thinning?Key Takeaways:The AIP diet focuses on eliminating gut irritants from your diet. It’s similar to the Paleo diet but restricts a lot more. It works on healing the gut by eliminating certain foods that cause inflammation, which gives rise to gut issues, which in turn causes autoimmune diseases. If you are having autoimmune issues and adrenal fatigue, it’s time for you to slow down and shift to lower-intensity exercises and focus more on the healing aspect. If you have a low-functioning thyroid, you have high-functioning adrenals. So if you’ve got thyroid issues, that means you’ve also got adrenal issues.Action Steps:Consider doing the AIP diet especially if you have autoimmune issues.Try doing a colonic first before jumping into doing a coffee enema.Cut down on how often you wash your hair and switch to more natural products.Consider getting a thyroid testing done.Samantha said:“Coffee enemas are amazing and they’re a great tool and detox protocol that will help with detoxification and, of course, help support gut health.”“Movement is important, absolutely, but movement doesn’t have to come in the form of high intensity… and so find something that’s a little bit lower intensity and do that and still focus on moving your body, but really respect that process of healing because it does need time.”Thanks for listening! If you’re interested to do some detoxification anytime soon, check out my Summer Hormone Detox program. This is an amazing program to help you detox out that excess estrogen in your body and support your thyroid. You’ll get a 7-day meal plan with delicious, amazing recipes and the chance to join an exclusive masterclass on July 18th.And if you are interested in joining the CleanBeautyU online program, there are tons of resources there on all things beauty care, including videos on how you can make your own clean beauty products. Balancing Hormones with Essential Oils

Whether you’re new to essential oils or have been using them for quite some time, this episode is packed with valuable information that you wouldn’t want to miss!
