They destroy the lining of the gut and also cause nutrient deficiencies.Our gut plays a role in our everyday mood.There are over 400 known, diverse bacterial species, and we are pretty much 90% bacteria.Gut bacteria produce essential nutrients and allow for greater nutrient bioavailability. They impact our health, vitality, immunity, and hormones. They protect us against food allergies and intolerances, and they’re really important for cognition, memory, and brain health. Gut bacteria also aid in weight loss ability.Our gut is our second brain, and it's so powerful. If our gut health and our digestive system are off, they start to throw everything off about our health.So many diseases and symptoms stem from gut issues, so it’s really important that we prioritize healing and supporting our gut health. Action Steps:Some simple things that you can do every day:Ditch the toxins.Hydrate.Eat fermented veggies.Include some bone broth in your diet.Manage your stress.Get good quality sleep.Detox.Include fermentable fibers and prebiotics in your diet.Supplements with probiotics, L-glutamine, digestive enzymes, etc.When it comes to parasite and candida cleansing, make sure to work with a practitioner, get the right testing, and have the right support. You need somebody who knows how to review your testing appropriately and provide the necessary protocols. Samantha said:“Your gut barrier is really important, and we want to do all that we can to manage that and keep those mucosal cells really, really tight.”“Leaky gut and bad gut flora are common because of our modern lifestyle, and if you have a leaky gut, you probably have bad gut flora and vice versa. The Real Reason We're Sick, Tired and Overweight

The average woman is exposed to 126 different toxins before leaving their home in the morning, and half of those are carcinogenic.If something's off on your blood work, it means there's something wrong with your body.If you get bloated after eating, it's not the food's fault if it's healthy food. It's a digestive issue of too much candida, too many bacteria that are fermenting the food.You’re not a static human being. The same meal eaten on a different day can have a different reaction in your body.Ayurveda is the oldest form of medicine in the world. It became the basis of all other forms of medicine. It literally translates to ‘the science of life’, so it looks at an individual and their constitution. Action Steps:Do a 7, 14, or 21-day functional medicine detox. Then, maintain your results by trying to not be exposed to as many toxins and eating cruciferous vegetables.Get blood work done. And if there’s something off on your blood work, look at the root causes to see why it’s off.Do intermittent fasting.Consider doing a one-day reset diet where you're doing daily nutritional support shakes every four hours. Stephen said:“A functional medicine detox. How to Have a Healthy Gut

The quality of those ingredients matters to our overall outcome.If you're on an elimination diet for longer than three months, you begin to create your own dysbiosis in the microbiome.Taking out complex carbohydrates from your diet can create more food sensitivities, more food reactions, and less oral tolerance over time.The specific carbohydrate diet is a version of a FODMAP style diet where you're not eating anything processed out of a wrapper or package. It’s a whole food diet where you're cutting out as many complex carbohydrates as you can.Action Steps:Consider going on the specific carbohydrate diet. Eliminate the foods that are giving you problems and attempt to reintroduce them as quickly as possible.If you’re having an IBD flare, start with the intro diet along with the specific carbohydrate diet. This means eating all cooked meats, fruits, and vegetables and nothing raw. Support your body with all the mechanical needs it might be missing at the moment to break down foods.If you want to protect your gut, eat a lot of fermented foods, say a gratitude prayer before you eat, slow down, and try to eat a wide range of foods.Find a supplement that's going to cover your pancreatic enzymes, your brush border enzymes, and microbiome enzymes all in the same capsule. You also want to try to find something with minerals added to it.Take enzymes with your meals and before bed. Also, don’t be afraid to experiment with your enzyme dosages.If you're in a bad place, like if you’re someone who has refractory IBD or you're headed into the hospital, one of the coolest things you can do is give your gut a break by doing a 24- or 36- or 48-hour water fast. Steven said:“The hope... is that if you supplement with [HCl] long enough and you rebuild the natural processes, you reabsorb all your minerals, and you kind of train your stomach how to work, you will end up usually coming off of HCl.”“The systemic part of enzymes can not be understated, and I think it's one of the most underrated anti-aging tools... Tips to Balance Blood Sugar and Optimize Metabolic Health - Part 2

Topics Discussed in This Episode:More tips to support your insulin and blood sugar levels and manage your glucose.How exercise and movement impact your glucoseWhy sleep is critical to glucose regulation and overall metabolic healthStress management techniques Key Takeaways:A study has shown that when about one ounce of white vinegar was consumed with a carbohydrate-rich meal, post-meal glucose spikes and insulin levels were significantly lower.Apple cider vinegar is not only great for digestion but also for supporting post-meal glucose.According to one study, a single session of exercise at even a mild intensity has the ability to significantly increase insulin sensitivity the very next day.A large body of research also shows that moderate aerobic exercise 30 minutes, three times a week over an eight-week period improves insulin resistance and glycaemic control, including your fasting glucose levels.Similarly, high-intensity training improves both fasting glucose and insulin sensitivity in as short as two weeks. The more muscle mass that you can build, it's going to support how your body uptakes glucose.A short stint of sleep deprivation can send the body into a pathological metabolic state. The good news is that this is reversible. All you need to do is improve your sleep duration for two days.Stress raises our glucose levels. Studies have shown a significant correlation between perceived work-related stress and increased levels of circulating glucose.Cinnamon is a delicious and effective way to blunt some of those glucose surges. Action Steps:Implement these strategies:Use vinegar to support your glucose. Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar 10 to 15 minutes before you eat your meal, or mix it with a little bit of warm water and drink it first thing in the morning.Exercise and incorporate movement.Prioritize sleep. You need to sleep at least 7 to 9 hours per night to have healthy and proper glucose regulation.Control your stress. Practice stress management techniques such as deep diaphragmatic breathing for 20 minutes a day and twice-weekly meditation.Sprinkle cinnamon on your meals. Samantha said:“If you feel like you're having a bit of this resistance with working out and exercise, that could be one way to reframe it. You're doing this because you love yourself.
