Scaling Up, Staffing Up & How to Avoid Getting Screwed Over [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Whether your an entrepreneur or employee building your business you need to understand the value of a good workplace culture, how to disrupt internally and how to become a leader. Today, Rob gets interviewed by the host of the Lead with Levity podcast for progressive business leaders on the forefront of employee experience and workplace culture, Dr Heather Walker. Together they discuss the concept of levity with a business, bean bag culture vs corporate culture and why humanising the workplace and staying humble are essential to success and the growth of your business.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  Manager Vs Leader  There is a huge difference between a manager and a leader. When you’re starting out your vision is everything and you don’t have to compromise, however when you begin to take on staff and create a culture your vision needs to involve them and include their careers and growth. This is essential to motivating staff and creating a positive workplace culture.     Leadership is inspiring those to follow you and join you on a journey.  Management is policies, onboarding, training documents, targets, sickness policies etc.    Three components of levity:  Amusement - Fun & enjoyment  Bouncy - A positive atmosphere  Edification - A constructive environment to work    How Is The Culture In Your Business?  We never wanted a corporate structure at Progressive, we wanted to be very flat with our layers of management, never have an organisational chart and push a bean bag culture. However, as you grow and you get bigger you do need a more corporate structure. Ultimately your businesses culture depends on the size of your business. What we did find out was once we put in one layer of management everything changed. We had to become more official.    We had a really great culture when we had around 7 or 8 people. We had a family culture, a chaotic approach and an open door policy. This can be met with friction from staff but ultimately you need systems and processes in order to grow and become a real business.    How Do You Keep Levity In Your Business As You Grow?  The key is having a core set of values that you live and breathe. You can still be a personal company as you grow and you become a bigger company. We created our values with our staff and together refined our culture and values and make sure that we look after our staff.    As an entrepreneur, you think that people work for you, but in reality no one works for you, ever. They work for themselves and you just happen to be paying them. They come to work to pay for their expenses and to facilitate their lifestyle. As an entreprneur, you need to realise that you work for your employees and when you do this you will create a good workplace culture.     If levity could change one thing in the world what would it be?  When people start their businesses they take themselves far too seriously. I believe you should take your work very seriously but yourself not too seriously. Love your art, love your mission, do the best you can but be a light individual and manage your emotions, simply try to have fun and be humble.  BEST MOMENTS  “The power of many of greater than the power of one”  “Success is better when it’s shared with someone else and failure is easier when you’re surrounded by people”  “Most of the success in my business has been through collaborations. I believe in growth through community and collaborations”  “I work for my team, they don’t work for me”  “I crowdsource ideas from meeting, my staff, surveys, communities and from simply knowing and talking with my staff”  “I want my team to come to work and enjoy being there, If someone enjoys being there they’ll be productive”  “All you need is a bit of humility and to listen to your staff and you will create a good workplace culture”  “As a leader, you need to humanise your business”  “Mark and I are terrible managers”  [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Caffeine Cast: 10 Quick Ways to Take Action NOW [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Learn – Test – Tweak – Review – Repeat This is Rob Moore’s 5-step model on how he gets things done. Easy to recite… but is it easy to follow? In this episode of The Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast, he gives an in-depth explanation of how this works for entrepreneurs like him. It isn’t linear; it’s strategic and cyclical, in a good way. There will always be difficulties in every situation, and this model recognises this. It teaches you to be adaptable, resourceful, and calculated as you go along your journey. And, to make things easier (for you to take mental notes and apply them ASAP!), Rob made it more concise—discover today the 10 actionable ways on how to get things done. You can now listen to this, today. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everything’s a test. And it’s not wise to test something without even learning it beforehand. Stop labelling what you’re doing with hefty words (i.e. life-changing), you’re less likely to do it. Don’t put TOO MUCH pressure on yourself. Get a mentor or be in a mastermind. Learning it on your own or as you go through your own process is not the best way to go. Why don’t you approach someone who has gone through the same path? At least, he’ll tell you what to do and not do. Be accountable. Stick with your deadlines so you can easily achieve your goal. Stop letting yourself and other people down. Embrace your fears. You can’t ignore or run from them. Fear is a good thing as it keeps you grounded along your pursuit. Always keep going despite its existence. Accept and collect rejection. Rejections are good motivators as they give us the most valuable lesson that we need to plan our next step. Put yourself out there. Build your online profile, attend events that could give you a chance to a network, and share your expertise. Compartmentalise and isolate. It’s easier to finish your tasks if you allow a certain time in your schedule and a certain place to do it with no delays and interruptions. Manage your energy well. Your high energy can help you excel in the important tasks, so learn how and where you want to use that energy. Reward yourself. BEST MOMENTS “To know what to do and not do is to not know.” “All learning and not doing is not ideal.” “Managing your energy is managing your life.” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. RANT: Dealing With Other People's Moods (Sh*t) [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

No one makes you do, say or feel anything. You own of all of that and you are responsible for these things. In this episode, rob covers 9 useful tips on how you can deal with people who may be negative or are draining on your life.   KEY TAKEAWAYS You cant control how or where someone delivers feedback so accept the way they’ve done it and learn from it. Peoples ability to take feedback even when it’s not delivered very well is emotional, business and life mastery. Maybe you’re a bit too optimistic and positive and need your feet kept on the ground. Recognise that sometimes other people being like this can balance you and keep you grounded. Even if someone’s in a bad mood, they can’t affect how you feel unless you give them permission to. Their suck of energy is less than your give of energy. Don’t let anyone put your fire out. Sometimes when someone’s a real drain with huge emotional baggage and constantly plays the victim them get rid of them out of your life or minimize your time with them. But be aware that there’s a difference between someone being negative and a critic. Annoy the critics and sceptics with your enthusiasm and positivity. You can let so much stuff go, you cant control anyone so let it go. It can be a real challenge of your own mindset to deal positively with negative energy. So it’s good to see it as abit of a test of your ability to keep your energy high. Don’t get sucked into all of these debates and things that will drain your energy. Sometimes when people are down and are a bit of a drain of life then, if you care enough about them enough, you can try to help them. Some people have a lot of bad things going on in their lives so it could be them trying to reach out to you.   BEST MOMENTS “Always look for the lesson in how people deliver feedback”   “Take away the way someone delivers their feedback.”   “Their mood can’t affect your mood without your permission.”   “The person with the best energy wins”   “Thank them then fu*k off” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Piers Linney: Dragons Den Star & Disruptive Entrepreneur [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Disruptive entrepreneur Rob Moore interviews, Secret Millionaire and Dragons Den investor, experience lawyer, investment banker and fund management manger, Piers Linney to discuss what entrepreneurs are, how they operate and how to raise money if you are just starting up. Get expert advice on how to pitch, how to grow a small business, what marketing works in today's market and much, much more.  KEY TAKEAWAYS  Small business owner and entrepreneur is not the same thing. If you've got a corner shop, or you're a freelancer, or you got a small business and it makes 20, 30, 40 grand a year and the chance of going outside of that are pretty slim, you don't want to hire anybody else, you want it to be your thing, you are not an entrepreneur, entrepreneur is about taking risks in the hope of profit. Somebody that may have an existing business and they look to grow that business.  Entrepreneurship is also a mindset as well as a definition. Like having ideas, being creative, being maybe a little bit relentless, you push for more having multiple businesses, you sit on more than one board and you put your finger in a few businesses. There's a spirit of entrepreneurship.  Who is the right person to become an entrepreneur? You don’t have to be born a leader or an entrepreneur, you can learn these skills, you can put the people around you to make sure that you fill all those sorts of skills gap so you can become a more rounded entrepreneur.  How to get funding during a start-up. You can get money from borrowing your friends and family members. You can also get the money by getting loans from financial institutions like banks. You can also pitch your ideas to entrepreneurs and see if you can partner with them and raise the money together.  Pitching. To people you don’t know, you have to bring out your A-Game when pitching to them so that they can be carried away by the pitch and agree to fund your project. Ask yourself these questions, why would someone want to invest in your project? Why would someone buy your product?   What are the key elements of a really good pitch? The important thing about a really good pitch is to understand where you are and who you're pitching to. Do thorough research on what you want to pitch, do your homework well. You must be a good communicator.   Knowledge and skills. The business that you are entering into or starting, do you have the right skills to do it and be successful, have you invested your time and money in trying to learn what this business entails? You need to be educated with the right skills for you to succeed in that business.  Marketing. If you ever want your business to grow a lot more, you have to market your business or product through advertisements. You can hire someone with these kinds of skills to market your product and be sure that this will increase your sales very much.   When you leverage social media, you can reach more customers quicker than ever. People moan about social media, but you can reach millions of people and you don't even have to pay. Facebook is free. LinkedIn is free. Of course, it depends on your product or service. You can't be a personal brand if you haven't got a product or service or a brand or a story that young people have a story to tell. That's where you sell more.  What is scale up? Scale-up is any business that has the ambition to grow. So that means that if you're making two million this year, next year you want to be making seven million, next year 15 million and so on.   Can you work hard and smart and have a balanced life that you still have time for your family? Yes, you can. As long as your mental health and physical health are balanced, in that you're going to gym, you're generating ideas in your head and implementing them in your business and making money, you can put aside some amount of money and go out on a vacation with your family and have some fun.  Mentorship. As an entrepreneur, you need to have at least one mentor or more because there’s always a time where you are in need of a good professional advice or a hurting truth that maybe you don’t want to here or other people are afraid to tell you that might help you in shaping up your business or implement an idea that you have. Mentors help you to make very informed decisions on what you are about to do.  If people refuse to fund you, should you give up? No, send the pitch out, have negative feedback or no feedback and keep sending out the same thing. Go look at it and see if they missed a point and if you can clarify that it and change your presentation and iterative constantly.  What is a successful business? This is when your employees are happy, your teams happy, and the customers are happy because, with this, you're more likely to be successful.  BEST MOMENTS  "No company starts up to be a start-up, you start to create a sustainable financial model, a product or service that solves a problem, people are willing to pay a price for and you can deliver that product or service at a lower cost, which means you got profit."  “If you know anything worth doing, is worth doing, it doesn't matter how long it's going to take."  “Put yourself out there a lot in the social media platforms if you want to grow. You’ll be rewarded for volume over quality.”  “We live and learn.”  “Society is not fair until the top of it looks like the bottom of it.”  “The problem we've all got is, if you're riding the wave, you'll go with it. If you're not, you get left behind.”  “Business should be a force for good.”  “The world's biggest problems are the world's biggest opportunities for entrepreneurs, you solve those problems, and you’re a billionaire.”  “A lot of people raise quite a lot of money for nonsense, the best thing that they could be good at is the pitching itself.”  “Don’t raise money unless you have to.”  “If you change the number of scale-ups in the country by just 1%, it generates millions of jobs, generates billions in GDP. It changes our economy massively. So scale-ups are the ones that need to be supported probably the most.”  “Do something that you enjoy doing.”  “Disruptive means staying one step ahead of yourself, and one step ahead of your industry or your market or your model.”  ABOUT THE GUEST  Piers Linney was born in Stoke-on-Trent but grew up in a former mill town in Lancashire where he attended the local comprehensive school. His mother is from Parish of St. Barbados. His father is from working-class Manchester. BONUS: Dealing With Depression & Feeling Alone in Business, on World Mental Health Day [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

In this world mental health day special, Rob covers the 7 tops tips for improving your mental health and how to deal with your struggles and trials of modern life. Rob reminds us that often, there are people that have it worse and we should have gratitude for what we have, but also to not be too hard on ourselves and appreciate the successes we have had in business and personal life, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. KEY TAKEAWAYS •It is okay to ask for help •Everyone struggles, despite how they appear to the world. They could be smiling but are actually crying inside. Your idols are as nervous about doing well day to day as you are. Successful people have experienced the struggle to get where they are today. •You should celebrate even the smallest of goals, not just the big wins •The personality you put out to the world is the kind of person you will attract back. If you are putting out a fake you, you will attract people who aren't being true to themselves either. •Trolls & haters' comments reflect more about them than they do about you.  •We're all human- forgive yourself for feeling down or making mistakes. BEST MOMENTS “Arnold Schwarzenegger is just a normal guy, and I’m standing there looking at him like he’s my all-time hero. Me and him are exactly the same.” “If I’m pedestalising someone, I should equally balance that with the things I’ve done well” “You've probably achieved more than you think if you go back and look at all the things you’ve done in your life”. “A lot of people have an unrealistic expectation of how well they should be doing” “Every human being that’s alive has a purpose for humanity- a greater purpose understood by a bigger intelligence than ourselves otherwise we wouldn’t exist” “It’s not a weakness to ask for help” “The definition of wealth is wellbeing” “People react negatively toward you- not at you but at the shit going on in their life” “All those swans that are elegant above the water are screaming and kicking like everyone else under the water” “The darkness does become the light, unfortunately, the light sometimes becomes the darkness”. Little Known Truths About The Entrepreneurs Mindset [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Like the dark side of the Force, the negative energy brought by some factors can sway an entrepreneur’s mindset. There are the bashers, the mistakes, the failures, the fears, the limitations, and other things. In this episode of The Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast, Rob talks to Ryan Pinnick, the Founder & CEO of SuperGenius Ltd. Rob and Ryan discuss the importance of having a stable and undefeatable mindset. An entrepreneur can be at an advantage and most probably be more successful if he knows his way to managing his own emotions and behaviour. Every move, every reaction, can affect the next plans. Yes, this can be likened to a domino effect. So, as much as possible, know how you can harness an extreme energy for the better where you can benefit yourself and the surrounding people. Ryan shares some techniques on how you can train your mind into doing it today, so don’t miss this insightful conversation. KEY TAKEAWAYS In Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich, he shared that the ultimate reason people fail is because of their inability to transform negative energy (sadness, shame, frustration, anger, etc.)into something valuable. Learn to master your positive and negative tensions, so you can be mindful of your behaviour, your reactions, your language, etc. when you encounter something on the extremes. Focus on the more important things (i.e. your purpose) rather than your emotions. Know how to sway from self-loathing and self-pity and direct your attention to a creative idea, a nurturing place, or a happy memory where you can transmute the negative energy. Before you react, understand your emotions. Do nothing in a whim that you will regret afterwards. Sometimes, when we’re feeling too low or too high in our emotions, reactions become automatic. Breathe first, take a break, and start thinking of the actions you’re about to take. Self-awareness goes a long way. What are you feeling? What form does it want to be released? How can you transform it to something better? When you’ve mastered self-awareness, you don’t take things personally and you see every external factor that might have affected the situation. You understand it more. It’s not always rainbows and unicorns when you traverse your entrepreneurial journey. There will be a lot of failures and mistakes even how prepared you are. As much as possible, learn how to disassociate yourself with the negative energies this brings and to focus instead on the ultimate goal. “Happiness is the reward, not the purpose.” Always aim to grow and improve yourself. Continue learning and continue giving value. Enjoy the small victories. Gratitude and appreciation to everything that happens in your journey can motivate you to hustle more towards your end goal. BEST MOMENTS “It’s good to have a perspective on what can happen potentially on the downsides.” “Tension’s got to go somewhere.” “You can’t deny your emotions.” “As we create a way out of pain, we actually can take more pain on.” “Challenge creates growth.” “Don’t wish it were easier; get better!” “As an entrepreneur, essentially, what we do is we find the world’s biggest problems and we solve them for profit.” “If it gets difficult, just keep going.” “The purpose of life is growth and self-actualisation.” ABOUT THE GUEST Ryan Pinnick is the CEO & Founder of SuperGenius, a training and mentoring provider based in the UK and have been running workshops since 2015. Caffeine Cast: How Fast Should You Really Grow [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

“I believe you can grow too fast, if you’re just obsessed about growth, things will break” Growing your business empire is a goal for most entrepreneurs, but how do you do this successfully? In this episode of the Disruptive Entrepreneur, Rob discusses Growth. He discloses his top tips on how to grow your company's success as well as discussing common shortfalls of how attempting growth can fail. Listen today to find out more about how to grow your company. KEY TAKEAWAYS REDUCE YOUR RISKS- Collaborate. Reduce your risks in the testing phase or growing your company. Progressive is looking to expand globally. Test by using a partner, they will have their own contacts, their own resources. That way, I don’t create overheads, I don’t create fixed costs and I don’t really have much risks. I am a big believer in collaborations, I know a hugely successful events company, and I always wondered how they consistently filled out huge events. I then found out they have a central company in America, and then what they do they find the big promoters in the countries and they partner with that promoter. They have one hub and they have global partnerships, that dramatically reduce your risks. If you’re in property, just see every new purchase, builder or mortgage as a test. Then, when you find a good one, do everything you can to keep them and that partnership. PUSHING GROWTH- Capacity How far do you push growth? I think this depends on your personality,  your available resources, experience, your systems, your capacity your capital resources, human resources, etc. There is no hard and fast rule. You want to build a good sense of self-awareness. What is your capacity for what you can take on? There is a really fine line between being on fire and being overwhelmed. Growth forces you to improve your systems, improve your mindset. Sometimes, being pushed too much is fine, but I think you have to test the capacity of what breaks. What is your previous experience? For example, if you have never bought a buy to let before, how do you know how many you can handle? I have business mentors that have a mindset ‘don’t hire anybody until something breaks’ I would have other people that would argue ‘hire in first, so things don’t break’. A common entrepreneurial trait is to never say no. This is both a blessing and a curse. Remember, when you get to maximum capacity, you need to learn when to say no. WHAT IS YOUR END GOAL? What do you want from this business? Some people want a lifestyle business, they want a passive, recurring income. They want to work from their laptops for a few hours a week. If this is your goal, you must learn to say no. You have to slow growth down. If you want to be an active entrepreneur, you may have just a year to replace your income. You have the time and desire to hustle hard you can then take on a lot more. It is the continual building of self-awareness to know what your limits are. CONTACTS You have to build your contacts. If you have three really good brokers, you can probably buy a few deals simultaneously, if you have never used one before, then you have to go through the pain of finding one. If you have refurb teams, that you can entrust to run multiple contacts simultaneously then you can handle the capacity to do multiple refurbs at one. If you’ve not got this, then you would be unable to do this. Growing your contacts will grow your business. CAPITAL The available capital that you have to spend on growing your business will reflect the growth. If you have more than enough capital, you can scale a bit quicker. If you do not have this, then the growth phase will take longer. BEST MOMENTS “Some people often say that in order for businesses to be successful they have to be ever-growing, I'm not sure I agree with that”   “I believe you can grow to fast” “if you’re just obsessed about growth, things will break”   “Growth forces you to improve your systems, improve your capacity, your mindset.”   “find and hire smart people to give them a little bit too much to do and then get out of their way and let them do it”   [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. David McCourt: Billionaire Media Mogul, Producer & Entrepreneur [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

‘Why would you not live an extraordinary life over an ordinary life when you have the choice?’ Rob is interviewing David McCourt, billionaire businessman described by ‘The Economist’ as having ‘impeccable credentials’  Over the last thirty years he has founded multiple successful companies and is one of the world’s most successful award-winning entrepreneurs with an Emmy award and a personal worth in excess of 1 billion. They discuss inspirational films, books, money, motivation and why David is only just getting started. This is an incredibly inspiring and motivational episode with huge value,  you will want to listen to it more than once get started now!   KEY TAKEAWAYS Money There are so many other more interesting things you can do with your money than buy stuff People have stuff because they want you to believe they are rich, smart, powerful and handsome. You could use your money to start a business, grow a business, help a charity to get started, help someone else, start a business or buy land and give it to conservation. My attitude towards money and wealth hasn’t changed over time. I know a lot more now about life and business relationships, what I want to accomplish in my life and what I don’t want to waste my time on. It’s important to recognise that lots of people don’t have money so if you do you have no right to squander it you should use it to build value and solve problems create jobs You should try to move the ball down the field for other people. Entrepreneurship For years incremental thinking was enough but now things are moving so fast we need a total rethink to solve problems. Don’t be afraid of failing because your ‘plan B’ will be better than your ‘plan A’ Your ‘plan B’ by definition will be more successful than your ‘plan A’  because you already know what not to do. If you want to be an entrepreneur you can’t be afraid of what others think and say you’ve got to always be moving forward and never back. Strength and weakness In everything, the focus is on improving areas of weakness but the statistical data that suggests you can only make marginal improvements to your areas of weakness but you can improve in your areas of strength almost infinitely. The system finds it easier to put everyone in the same box and this results in lots of people who look and sound the same. Everyone is good at something and that something is what the individual should focus on not worrying about the things they are not good at and improvement can be almost infinite.  The media There are now so many content distributers it’s a content creators world but you have to be able to survive and make money. It’s a fantastic new world for good content creators, if you follow a trend you can make money but if you follow a fad you’ll go broke. A Total Rethink - Entrepreneurs should act like  revolutionaries   There is a story that needs to be told. The world has been operating with a basis of incremental change in business and in life since the industrial revolution but now everything is moving so fast we need to change the way we look at the problems. A change in approach and thinking is necessary for the planet and also offers great opportunities for making money. The book doesn’t solve all the problems but it highlights the big problems and highlights how I’ve solved similar problems with suggestions of how we could solve some of the global problems based on my personal experience. Motivation Why would you live an ordinary life when you don’t have to? Money is not my motivation and I’m just getting started everything I’ve learnt up until this point is for what I’m going to do next and I haven’t yet done the big thing I’m meant to do.   BEST MOMENTS ‘It isn’t a political problem it’s a global problem and the business opportunity is in solving the problems’ ‘People have to work out what makes them happy in life’ ‘If they see a problem that they want to solve why would they not take a chance for  happiness’ ‘The only equaliser between us all is time’ ‘It's way easier to buy something than start something’ [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
