EP 60: Do You Have an Obsession With “Clean Eating” or You Only Eat “Healthy Food”? ~ 3 Simple Steps to Escape the Struggle of Orthorexia
Hey Sweet Friend,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend full of all the summer vibes.
As I prepped for today's show I wanted to touch on a topic that is near & dear to my heart. Why? Well because I'm seeing more & more ladies come to me with orthorexia & I spent years & years of my life struggling with the same exact thing.
According to the National Eating Disorder Association, orthorexia was deemed a term in 1998 & is the obsession with proper or "healthy" eating.
Even though orthorexia is not classified as a clinical eating disorder, 21-57% of the population engage in these dangerous behaviors & distortions around food.
Ask yourself: "Am I rigid with food that I limit myself to only allow certain options with certain ingredients? Do I view my eating as the best way & that I am a "clean eater", feeling somewhat superior around food choices & others?
The problem with wellness culture today is that we have become so engrained to believe what everyone around us says is "healthy", so we adapt to that version of us. But sis, this can do way more harm that good.
If your path to physical health requires harm to your mental health, then is it truly "healthy" at all?
I think not...

EP 59: Are You in Quasi-Recovery? Signs You May Be Living in the “Messy Middle” & the Key to Becoming Fully Free✨
Hey sis,
Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Believe you can, and you're half way there."
& while I completely agree...BELIEF is of utter important in order to find complete food freedom, the other half of the equation is trusting the process & fully surrendering to the outcome. No matter what.
In today's episode, I discuss the "messy middle" & what it means to be in "quasi" or partial recovery from disordered eating.
Maybe you are just beginning the journey of wanting to break the chains from food & your thoughts around food & your body controlling your life. Or maybe, you have been struggling for a while. No matter where you sit right now friend, in order to find LASTING freedom - I believe you must fully surrender.
You can't expect full transformation if you have only been open to half-way change.
This took me YEARS to figure out in my own journey & recovery process & I don't want any more time to go by for you where you aren't living your very best life!
Today is the day to stop living with one foot in and the other foot out of your DREAM. Yeah sis, the dream life where you aren't consumed with thoughts around your body. The life where you aren't obsessed with what to eat or when to eat it or if you will allow yourself to have it. The life where food is fuel & health is strength.
You deserve freedom. TOTAL freedom. TRUE freedom. Not half-way freedom.

In today's episode on the Her Best Self Podcast, I share with you 30 things that you can count instead of calories, macros & fat grams.
Let's be for real, calorie counting can become addicting & obsessive.
& if you find yourself counting calories or looking at labels constantly to determine what you can or cannot eat, then this episode is perfect for you!
I spent most of my life counting every calorie. In fact, I became so obsessive that I literally would only allow myself 500 calories a day- MAX!
If I didn't know how many calories were in something, it was a no.
If I didn't have enough saved up for the day, it was a no.
If it was over 100 calories at one time, it normally was a no.
I'm not sharing this with you today to trigger you, but to EMPOWER YOU.
There are so many other things that you can be counting besides calories.
& I'm proof that you can learn to live without being chained to disordered eating behaviors (like counting cals, macros & fat grams) controlling your life.

EP 54: How to Cope With “Beach Body” Triggers & Appreciate the Skin You Are in This Summer
It's the first Monday of July, & you know what that means....SUMMER!
Summer can be the BEST time & also one of the most triggering when you are in recovery from disordered eating. Diet culture screams weight loss plans, beach bods & fitspiration. July 4th brings fireworks, events with family....& FOOD.
The truth is... summer can be super triggering! With less clothing & the fear of what other people may think of you...it's legit hard.
According to researchers, 90% of women are disappointed with their bodies (especially in the summertime!) Isn't that stat insane?
If you are there right now, give yourself grace sister. I see you. I spent so many summer's fueled by coffee & the desire of perfection. I spent so many summer's STARVING & miserable. I spent so many summer's completely obsessed with my body & counting every single morsel of food that entered my mouth.
It was exhausting. Until I decided enough was enough.
Girl, your summer body is the body that you have right now! Can you appreciate it? You don't have to LOVE your body, but you can nourish it & respect it.
Your body is the vessel of how you experience life.

EP 53: What to Do When ”the Voice” in Your Head Gets Louder & Louder? + 7 Tips to Stay Grounded in Your Truth
Hi lady!
How is your week going so far? I hope you are embracing summer in all the chaotic, yet somewhat relaxing vibes it brings.
This week, I had a listener of the Her Best Self Podcast write in to us asking the question:
"What do I do when that "voice" inside of my head gets louder in louder? I'm trying to navigate healing from disordered eating but the voice doesn't go away. Any help or feedback you could give on the show would be wonderful!"
So to answer your question Marie, in today's episode I share 6 Tips (+ a bonus tip) on how you can tell that "voice" to sit down & shut up!
The truth, according to researchers is that over 90% of individuals with an eating disorder, or those who suffer from disordered eating, experience a self-critical inner voice that can be distinguished from self-critical thoughts or cognitions. According to an article in medium.com, researchers have proposed that as the illness progresses, these unhealthy thoughts (thoughts that motivate eating disordered behavior's which may initially have seemed reasonable or even desirable) are replaced by the experience of hearing a ‘voice’ that is threatening & abusive, dictating & compelling the person to act in ways they recognize are unreasonable & which cause them significant distress.
So with this in mind, I knew I MUST share with you what exactly YOU can do about those pesky thoughts & that mean girl voice, that sits in your mind trying to control food & manipulate your body.
