Fashion Evolution Through the Times, Self-Expression Through Style, The Power of Pink Hair + More With Fashion Historian Joanie Coyote
If you love fashion and the arts, you're going to LOVE this episode. I have Joanie Coyote on the show, who is a Costume History Professor, Theatre Costume Designer, and Stand-Up Comic. Costuming brought her from Texas to New York in the 1980's where she made costumes for Broadway plays such as Starlight Express, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera. She was a dresser for Les Miserable and a few other Broadway shows. Joanie stumbled into other creative outlets such as acting in a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway play, Top Girls, and waitressing at the Original Improv Comedy Club which would lead to her eventually performing comedy in Houston and Los Angeles for many years. Joanie is a single mom to an awesome daughter and is committed to empowering women in any way possible. Joanie and I talk about the rise of women in the fashion industry, how fashion has evolved through the times, the power of pink hair, our fashion predictions for a post-COVID world, and so much more. How to Get Better at Saying No
I used to hate saying no to people, especially early on in my career. I felt like I was letting someone down, then I'd get in my head and wonder if I was missing out on an opportunity, or if people would perceive me as a bitch (funny how that men don't think this way, right?) Once I started evaluating my energy, everything changed. I now check in with myself regularly and ask myself how I'm feeling. Do I feel drained? Or do I feel energized? And if I'm drained, what's the cause? Typically it's because I'm overextending myself. In this episode, I'm sharing practical tips on how to start saying no to others so you can start saying yes to yourself. Grab a notebook, because you'll want to take notes!
