Happy Plodding!     Show Notes:   Isreal & Middle East Conflict: there has been endless Middle East conflict, and it is easy to push it to the side however there are things that Christians need to pay attention to  I am not an adherent of manifest destiny you can’t unscramble the egg we ought to recognize that Isreal has the right to occupy the space she currently has   The Conservative Mind: written by Russel Kirk  one of the values of conservative temperament is that it is not idealogical the conservative is suspicious of systems the conservative prefers the devil he knows to the devil he doesn’t know   Alusiteles: The NT describes sins of omission in different ways Heb. 13:17 - the saints are told to avoid making their rulers assigned task a grief they are to be a joy to serve, not a grief  when this is not done, the result is unprofitable (alusiteles)  when worshipers find that their whole church experience is “unprofitable” for them, this is one of the possible reasons they should check

Lewis Lewis is amazing on any subject he touches on the theme throughout the book is hierarchy this book will suggest to you a different way of thinking about life Alogos: means unreasonable found in Acts 25:27, 2 Pet. 2:12, Jude 1:10 sin permitted in destroys a man’s capacity to make sense of the world around him to be reasonable in this sense is a moral reason

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: Private Property & Environment: when people tell you to save this or save that, there is a presupposition of ownership we have to figure out who owns what Christians should want to be good stewards of the planet, however, we need to do it through God’s appointed mechanisms you don’t want to put anyone in charge of the environment, or an endangered species when that person doesn’t face any negative consequences for making poor decisions Christians need to radically reintroducing private property The Plan of Salvation: written by B.B. Warfield helpful breakdown of different approaches to salvation if you are interested in preserving historic reformed evangelicalism, then this book is great  Allotriepiskopos: refers to someone who is a busy body in the affairs of others these people are engaged in looking over the shoulders of others so that they can butt in mentioned in 1 Peter 4:15 mind thine own business

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: Abolitionism & The Art of the Deal: How can we draw a lesson from the left when it comes from political engagement on the pro-life issue one of the things the left does very well is that they don’t apologize for the activists on the extreme edges of their movement if someone fighting for the same cause is doing something that is ill advised, it is really important for incrementalists to not apologize for the abolitionists don’t spend your time fighting the abolitionists, spend your time fighting the pro abortionists  The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination: written by Loraine Boettner has a lot of wonderful textual citations in the Bible that show how God governs everything if anyone is interested in a good introduction to the reformed doctrine of predestination it is a wonderful book Alisgema: this is the word for pollution, and is used once (Acts 15:20) the Gentiles needed to abstain from certain basic things, among them the pollutions of idols the end result of all forms of idolatry is always pollution, usually sexual we need to be wary of nature worship, (going green)

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: Kendrick Brothers Movies: it is very easy to make fun of Christian movies as a pastor I found myself really wishing that people I knew would be able to see and be affected by these movies people are misreading these movies the fault is assigned to the evangelicalism of the filmmakers it wasn’t the evangelicals that made all of the crappy hollywood movies, people don’t say that these movies were bad because of the secularism of the director whatever criticisms are leveled at these movies, it does not have to do with the story arc the things thats these movies need are better sets and actors Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt Manipulators: written by David Chilton a great introduction to people who want to think about everything, including economics, within a biblical framework rather than within a cluster of biblical sentiments Chilton shows that in a world that God made there is no such thing as a fixed pie Aladzoneia: means boasting (Rom. 1:30, 2 Tim. 3:2) James says that it is evil to take pride and boast in your future and all of the things you plan to do John condemns this particular swelling as well

Trump is amazing for conservatives but at the same time there is a gody sideshow we have a republican actually governing as a republican the problem is in 2020 I’m not proposing to answer this question yet but I want to start responsible Christians talking about it before it comes C.S. Lewis’s Dangerous Idea: written by Victor Reppert he is annualizing and interacting with C.S. Lewis’ argument from reason if we are nothing but matter in motion, then we have no basis for saying anything is true or not everyone even materialists can’t believe their thoughts this whole book is the work of a Christian philosopher, who is very careful and diligent  Aladzon means boaster listed in Romans 1:30 and 2 Tim. 3:2 vainglory always seeks to puff itself up let him who wants to boast, boast in the Lord boasting of some sort is inescapable giving glory to God is the heart of every sane response

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: The Broken Window Fallacy: if I throw a brick through someones window, is that an economic stimulus? what if I throw a brick through every window? this will create a lot of work for glass companies, and this is what people see but the people don’t see what the car owners would have spent their money on the money that they spend on the window is money that they won’t spend anywhere else we can’t just pretend that we are sophisticated because we intend to look at one half of the picture only Love & Respect written by Emerson Eggerichs addresses the differences in women when it comes to the desire in love and respect devoted to sort out marriage problems because of this difference in men and women the bible commands us according to our weakness and according to our spouses needs Eggerichs walks through this and gives a ton of advice for couples on how to walk through it all Akrates used once in NT (2 Tim. 3:3) it means incontinent  sins are cleary like grapes they come in clusters

Cor. 7:5, Matt. 23:25) one of the reasons that nonbelievers, even nonbelievers in positions of influence and importance, cannot control themselves is that self-control is a fruit of the spirit they can control one thing, but not the other the Spirit gives us the ability to be self-controlled across the board

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: Higher-Ed Bubble anything that can’t go in indefinitely won’t we have lost the concept of university, because you need a universe we have a fragmented system we have people treating higher education as a sure ticket into the job market everything you could learn at school you can find online for a fraction of the cost there is going to be a crash, the higher education bubble will burst the pricing is crazy, and the government is involved we need to deregulate higher ed The Pilgrim’s Regress written by C.S.Lewis it is challenging and difficult book the book is an allegory defending reason and romanticism he wrote this book in two weeks Akatastasia Paul says God is not the author of confusion, but rather of peace (1 Cor.14:33) the word for confusion is akatastasia here or it can mean tumult what is the source of all such confusion and tumult? James tells us that the font of this corporate problem is the individual sin of envying and striving (Jas. 3:16)

Happy Plodding!  Show Notes: Disturbing Algorithms they have developed the technology that puts the faces of celebrities onto pornagraphic images in a full time realistic way this is the world we are living in we ought to get to the point where we no longer admit digital evidence into the court of law we now have the capacity where we could generate footage of someone robbing a bank evidence can be manufactured people who are not technologically sophisticated are at the mercy of people who are we need to go back to the standard of having two or three witnesses we are getting to the point where digital evidence can be easily abused Witness written by Whitaker Chambers he was a communist spy and worked together with Alger Hiss Chambers was converted he wound up making the accusation against Alger Hiss this book is Chamber’s account of his life and conversion liberals wanted to maintain that Hiss was framed, but he actually was a spy Akataschetos when something is unruly it is untamed, uncowed, undisciplined the NT uses this word for the tongue, which no one can tame an unruly evil, full of deadly poison we must keep our guard up, we have a cobra in our mouth if a man can tame the tongue he can tame anything
