Plodcast
Canon Press
In the Plodcast, pastor Douglas Wilson covers anything related to theology and culture with his usual entertaining style. Whether it involves talking about Chestertonian Calvinism (not an oxymoron), the benefits of a Classical Christian education (not in that order), or the latest pomosexuality farce, the plodcast aims to apply all of Christ to all of life, for all the world. Douglas Wilson is an evangelical, postmill, Calvinist, Reformed, and Presbyterian (pretty much in that order) and is politically to the right of Jeb Stuart.

Welcome to the Plodcast! Listen in to hear Pastor Doug address the rise of dirty omniscience. Then he goes on to plug the book, Approved By God, by Wright & Townsend. Finishing things off with a look at the Greek words “hamartano & hamartia”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Dirty Omniscience: Google & Facebook are virtually tracking everything we do This is going to go badly wrong Our browser history is stored somewhere We already know God knows, but now somebody else knows, and they are not loving and caring like the Lord People who want to rival God are in big trouble Christians should throw shade on this dirty omniscience Approved By God: Written by Wright & Townsend Helpful but patchy Deals with the subject of churches and incorporation We shouldn’t want the church saying one thing while the state is saying something else A corporation exists at the pleasure of the state Wright & Townsend are so concerned with separation from the state that they overstate their case Hamartano & Hamartia: This word is used a lot in the NT, we will have to break it up Starting with Matthew, Hamartano is rendered twice as sin and once as trespass (Matthew 18:21/27:4/18:15/1:21/3:6/9:2/9:5-6/12:31/26:28) The new covenant is all about dealing with our sin Those who reject the idea of sin (as all relativists do) are showing their antipathy for the good news that God has given to us.

Show Notes: Eric Schneiderman & Not Being a Hypocrite: When women make “me-too” arguments, they are assuming moral absolutes exist The whole “me-too” movement is radically relativistic when it comes to ethics You can’t adopt a “do what you feel” worldview and argue that men are wrong for molesting or raping If there is no God there’s no such thing as a hypocrite In the Christian cosmos hypocrisy is a sin In the “me-too” world there is no such thing as sin Reformation Worship: Written by Gibson & Earngy Fabulous resource on reformational liturgics They have assembled some of the classic reformed orders of worship Amathes: The word amathes means unleared Mentioned once in the NT (2 Peter 3:16) Those who are unlearned and yet gather to themselves the prerogatives of learning -- which would include the authority to interpret the letters of Paul -- are demonstrating that they are unlearned for a reason They are unstable souls, and their ignorance is sinful

Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Isreal & Middle East Conflict: there has been endless Middle East conflict, and it is easy to push it to the side however there are things that Christians need to pay attention to I am not an adherent of manifest destiny you can’t unscramble the egg we ought to recognize that Isreal has the right to occupy the space she currently has The Conservative Mind: written by Russel Kirk one of the values of conservative temperament is that it is not idealogical the conservative is suspicious of systems the conservative prefers the devil he knows to the devil he doesn’t know Alusiteles: The NT describes sins of omission in different ways Heb. 13:17 - the saints are told to avoid making their rulers assigned task a grief they are to be a joy to serve, not a grief when this is not done, the result is unprofitable (alusiteles) when worshipers find that their whole church experience is “unprofitable” for them, this is one of the possible reasons they should check

Lewis Lewis is amazing on any subject he touches on the theme throughout the book is hierarchy this book will suggest to you a different way of thinking about life Alogos: means unreasonable found in Acts 25:27, 2 Pet. 2:12, Jude 1:10 sin permitted in destroys a man’s capacity to make sense of the world around him to be reasonable in this sense is a moral reason

Warfield’s, The Plan of Salvation, and wraps things up with a talk about the Greek word “Allotriepiskopos”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Private Property & Environment: when people tell you to save this or save that, there is a presupposition of ownership we have to figure out who owns what Christians should want to be good stewards of the planet, however, we need to do it through God’s appointed mechanisms you don’t want to put anyone in charge of the environment, or an endangered species when that person doesn’t face any negative consequences for making poor decisions Christians need to radically reintroducing private property The Plan of Salvation: written by B.B. Warfield helpful breakdown of different approaches to salvation if you are interested in preserving historic reformed evangelicalism, then this book is great Allotriepiskopos: refers to someone who is a busy body in the affairs of others these people are engaged in looking over the shoulders of others so that they can butt in mentioned in 1 Peter 4:15 mind thine own business

Tune in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about Abolitionism and the art of the deal. Then he plugs The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination, and ties things off with a talk about the Greek word “Alisgema”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Abolitionism & The Art of the Deal: How can we draw a lesson from the left when it comes from political engagement on the pro-life issue one of the things the left does very well is that they don’t apologize for the activists on the extreme edges of their movement if someone fighting for the same cause is doing something that is ill advised, it is really important for incrementalists to not apologize for the abolitionists don’t spend your time fighting the abolitionists, spend your time fighting the pro abortionists The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination: written by Loraine Boettner has a lot of wonderful textual citations in the Bible that show how God governs everything if anyone is interested in a good introduction to the reformed doctrine of predestination it is a wonderful book Alisgema: this is the word for pollution, and is used once (Acts 15:20) the Gentiles needed to abstain from certain basic things, among them the pollutions of idols the end result of all forms of idolatry is always pollution, usually sexual we need to be wary of nature worship, (going green)

Tune in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about Christian Movies, especially the Kendrick Brothers movies. Then he plugs Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt Manipulators, and wraps things up with a talk about the Greek word “Aladzoneia”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Kendrick Brothers Movies: it is very easy to make fun of Christian movies as a pastor I found myself really wishing that people I knew would be able to see and be affected by these movies people are misreading these movies the fault is assigned to the evangelicalism of the filmmakers it wasn’t the evangelicals that made all of the crappy hollywood movies, people don’t say that these movies were bad because of the secularism of the director whatever criticisms are leveled at these movies, it does not have to do with the story arc the things thats these movies need are better sets and actors Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt Manipulators: written by David Chilton a great introduction to people who want to think about everything, including economics, within a biblical framework rather than within a cluster of biblical sentiments Chilton shows that in a world that God made there is no such thing as a fixed pie Aladzoneia: means boasting (Rom. 1:30, 2 Tim. 3:2) James says that it is evil to take pride and boast in your future and all of the things you plan to do John condemns this particular swelling as well

Lewis’s Dangerous Idea, and wraps things up with a talk about the Greek word “Aladzon”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Trump in 2020: Trump wants to run again what do Christians do now? Trump is amazing for conservatives but at the same time there is a gody sideshow we have a republican actually governing as a republican the problem is in 2020 I’m not proposing to answer this question yet but I want to start responsible Christians talking about it before it comes C.S. Lewis’s Dangerous Idea: written by Victor Reppert he is annualizing and interacting with C.S. Lewis’ argument from reason if we are nothing but matter in motion, then we have no basis for saying anything is true or not everyone even materialists can’t believe their thoughts this whole book is the work of a Christian philosopher, who is very careful and diligent Aladzon means boaster listed in Romans 1:30 and 2 Tim. 3:2 vainglory always seeks to puff itself up let him who wants to boast, boast in the Lord boasting of some sort is inescapable giving glory to God is the heart of every sane response

Show Notes: The Broken Window Fallacy: if I throw a brick through someones window, is that an economic stimulus? what if I throw a brick through every window? this will create a lot of work for glass companies, and this is what people see but the people don’t see what the car owners would have spent their money on the money that they spend on the window is money that they won’t spend anywhere else we can’t just pretend that we are sophisticated because we intend to look at one half of the picture only Love & Respect written by Emerson Eggerichs addresses the differences in women when it comes to the desire in love and respect devoted to sort out marriage problems because of this difference in men and women the bible commands us according to our weakness and according to our spouses needs Eggerichs walks through this and gives a ton of advice for couples on how to walk through it all Akrates used once in NT (2 Tim. 3:3) it means incontinent sins are cleary like grapes they come in clusters

Tune in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about the Florida school shooting and gun control basics. Then he plugs Idea of Decline in Western History, and wraps things up with a talk about the Greek word “Akrasia”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Gun Control Basics government collapsed during Florida Shooting people naturally cry out to their gods (government) people are crying out to the same government that failed them the right to keep and bear was not about deer hunting, it was adopted so that people could fight against the rise of tyranny from government agents 1.) trump is literally hitler 2.) we should surrender all our guns to him Idea of Decline in Western History written by Arthur Herman how it came about that people assume things are falling apart you would think with the doctrine of evolution this would not be the case read this as a companion to your study of eschatology Akrasia means excess or lack of control used twice in NT (1. Cor. 7:5, Matt. 23:25) one of the reasons that nonbelievers, even nonbelievers in positions of influence and importance, cannot control themselves is that self-control is a fruit of the spirit they can control one thing, but not the other the Spirit gives us the ability to be self-controlled across the board
