Social Justice is the sharp end of the spear advancing the entire socialist, Marxist, and egalitarian agenda - very different from the Biblical view of justice. Wilson’s amazing “100 Cupboards” series, and finishes things off with a look at hamartia and hamartano in John. Happy plodding! Show Notes:   Kavanaugh Nonsense: Devils are accusers and we have gotten to the point where accusation equals conviction People do not understand how to weigh and evaluate accusations For many Christians, the prosecutor is the good guy but in scripture it is the other way around What is being done to our justice system is far far worse than what’s being done to Kavanaugh   100 Cupboards Series: Background overview of 100 cupboard series Written by Pastor Wilson’s son N.D.Wilson N.D. shows the importance of fathers and the gap created with their absence Also, another huge theme is learning to see how weird reality is He also emphasis the theme of growing up and pain Read it! Welcome plodders! This week Douglas Wilson talks about the abortion of the family, Michael Ward’s book, “Christology Cosmology & C.S. Lewis” and hamartia and hamartano in 2 Peter. Happy plodding!   Show notes:   The abortion of the family: The killing of babies is not the only problem The decision to legalize abortion delegitimized the American family and made, in principle, every child a bastard The reason children die, is because their fathers have been disenfranchised There is now no such thing as a family, if a man is not permitted to have a say about the life of his child, he is simply a nullity   Christology Cosmology & C.S. Lewis: Written by Michael Ward Series of 13/14 lectures that Ward gave Ward wrote “Planet Narnia” and “Narnia Code” This lecture series touches on the different planetary illusions in Narnia Amazing read for Lewis lovers   Hamartia & Hamartano: Looking at them in 2 Peter Hamartia mentioned in 2 Peter 1:9, 2:14 Hamartano is mentioned in 2 Peter 2:4

Welcome to the Plodcast! Today Pastor Wilson address’ Authority in preaching, claiming that many modern preachers are coiling away from their authority in the pulpit. Next he plods on to review “The Magician’s Twin” and finishes things off with a look at Hamartia in James. Happy Plodding! Show Notes:   Authority in Preaching: When a man is in the pulpit, he is not there as a representative of himself but of God He is speaking for God Many modern preachers coil away from this When modern preachers talk about themselves on stage we think they are humble But when preachers preach as though they themselves are irrelevant we think they are proud   The Magician’s Twin: About C.S. Lewis’ view of science and scientism A number of Lewis scholars wrote many essays for this These essays are showing how Lewis’ prophetic insights decades before are extremely relevant today All the essays are superb Lewis is too often thought of as an avuncular storyteller but should actually be thought of as a fiery prophet   Hamartia: Looking at hamartia in James Used 6 times: James 1:15 (2x), 2:9, 4:17, 5:15, 5:20

Ep. 58 - Lock & Key, Knowing Christ, Hamartia

Welcome plodders! Pastor Wilson kicks things off this week by addressing the controversial  topic of chastity and how it is not the same virtue for both sexes. After that, he reviews Mark Jones’ amazing book, “Knowing Christ”. Wrapping things up with a look at Hamartia in Hebrews. Enjoy! Show Notes:   Lock and Key: Chastity is not the same virtue for both sexes Because men & women are different, they sin differently, and the consequences of their sins are different This seems so offensive because it contradicts a central lie of feminism: that men and women are in fact interchangeable A lock that opens to a hundred keys is worthless, and a key that opens a hundred locks is somehow admired by our culture (obviously not to be admired by Christians)   Knowing Christ: Written by Mark Jones A packaging of rich Puritan theology He takes a very cheesecake rich theology, and packages it into a very understandable way Amazing devotional or group study book   Hamartia: Looking at hamartia in Hebrews Mentioned 25 times Hebrews 1:3, 2:17, 3:13, 4:15, 5:3, 7:27, 8:12, 9:26. 9:28, 10:2, 10:3, 10:4, 10:6, 10:8, 10:11, 10:12, 10:17, 10:18, 10:26, 11:25, 12:1, 12:4, 13:11

Ep. 57 - Wives Leaving Husbands, Principles of War, Hamartano

Welcome to the Plodcast! Listen in to hear Pastor Wilson address the grounds for divorce in the Bible and the grounds for wives who leave their husbands . After that he plods on to review his father Jim Wilson’s book, “Principles of War”. Finishing things off, Wilson takes a look at Hamartano in Hebrews. Happy Plodding! Show Notes:   Wives Leaving Husbands: The Greco-Roman world had many mixed marriages, this was not commonplace where Jesus was teaching Paul says you should not abstain sexual relations with an unbelieving spouse When you have two believers, the allowance for divorce is porneas (unfaithfullness) When you have a mixed marriage and the unbeliever leaves, the believer is not bound in such circumstances Paul says that a wife should stick it out, but if she can’t and she leaves then she only has two options 1) remain unmarried 2) be reconciled to the spouse   The Principles of War: Written by Jim Wilson Doug’s father was a Naval officer He took the principles of war and applied them to spiritual warfare Methods of war change but principles of war don’t This book offers evangelical gameplans and tactics   Hamartano: Looking at the word in Hebrews Only used twice, once in Heb. 3:17 & once in Heb. 10:26 Heb. 3:17 refers to the sinning of the Hebrews in the wilderness Heb. 10:26 talks about sinning willfully after we have received knowledge of the truth and that there remains no more sacrifices for sins

Finishing things off, Wilson takes a look at Hamartano in Titus. Happy Plodding! Show Notes:   Terrorism: What does it mean to identify someone as a terrorist? Terrorist has come to mean a bad guy, which is completely inaccurate Terrorism is a particular tactic Terrorism is to directly target innocent civilians in order to spread dismay, consternation and terror in the general populace Half of terrorism is claiming that you committed the bombing   Expository Exultation: Written by John Piper Not fully done with the book, but it is amazing Great read for pastors Piper shows how the preaching of the word in a way that exults in the Gospel that is being proclaimed is a central part of corporate worship Worship is a corporate act The word and the sacrament go together like cooking and eating go together   Hamartano: Looking at this word in Titus Only used once: Titus 3:10-11 He is talking about a heretic who won't listen and is stubborn Heresy is a kind of sinning

After that he plods on to review Thomas Sowell's book, “Discrimination and Disparities”. Finally Wilson takes a look at Hamartia and Hamartano  in 1 & 2 Timothy. Happy Plodding! Personality Testing: Anyone who has eyes knows that there are different personalities You are dealing with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore We live in a technocratic age. We think we can reduce things to numbers Faith in numbers, transfers to the corporate world We think that we can actually put a number on people down to the exact degree Our faith in numbers is driving our faith in personality tests   Discrimination & Disparities Written by Thomas Sowell Sowell is an economist and a black man, and he is fearless when it comes to analyzing economic proposals The whole book is on how it is possible for you to have wildly variant outcomes with different groups and not have it be the result of discrimination   Hamartano & Hamartia: Looking at Hamartano in 1 Timothy It is used just once: (1 Tim. 5:20) Looking at Hamartia in 1 & 2 Timothy It is used in: (1 Tim. 5:22/5:24, 2 Tim. 3:6)

After that he plods on to review Jennifer Ackerman's book, “Genius of Birds”. Finally Wilson takes a look at Hamartia in Thessalonians. Happy Plodding! Show Notes:   Essential Oils: The real issue is that it appears to have gone beyond a product being marketed to do what various products do They now have an oil that helps you make good financial decisions The essential oil market is starting to create a plausibility structure All you have to do is keep amping the claims for essential oils up and the people inside the plausibility structure will follow along unless someone calls them out   Genius of Birds: Written by Jennifer Ackerman You begin by learning that the insult “bird brain” is an inept insult If you want amazing levels of details on what birds can do, this is your book   Hamartia: Looking at the word in Thessalonians It is only used twice: 1 Thess. 2:14-16, 2 Thess. 2:3-4
