Árpád (Árpi) Horváth Kávai is the pastor of Golgota 11, a church in the 11th District of Budapest, Hungary. Árpi has a long history with Calvary Chapel in Europe, having been part of one of the first Calvary Chapel church plants in Yugoslavia in the early 1990’s, then a church plant in Pécs, Hungary. Since that time he has served as a pastor and an integral part of Calvary Chapel Bible College Europe. Along with pastoring, Árpi also currently lectures at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Budapest. In this episode Nick and Árpi discuss the length of sermons, the power of brevity, and how to leave room for the Holy Spirit to speak to people about how to apply a particular text to their lives. Árpi then shares about preaching in the wake of a personal tragedy, and how understanding the cultural context of your listeners shapes your preaching. Episode 87 - The Most Exciting Life You Can Live

Jeff and his wife Teresa grew up in northern California. They met just after high school in 1977, fell in love and married in 1978. Neither one was walking with the Lord. They moved to southern California and started attending Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, where they were both born again in 1991. They have been married for 34 years.Both Jeff and Teresa’s born again experience was life changing. Jeff was a local business man who owned and operated his own company for many years. He went from being motived by money to being motivated by the love of Jesus Christ! After a life-changing trip to Israel in 1992 with Pastor Chuck Smith, the Lord opened a door for him to attend the School of Ministry program at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. For five years following his graduation from the SOM in 1994, he taught two home Bible studies, served as a high school counselor, and was the surf coach for Calvary Chapel High School.In 2003 Jeff was asked to serve over the college and career ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, which he did for two years as a lay pastor. Phil Metzger is the pastor of Calvary San Diego. Prior to moving to San Diego in 2018, Phil served and pastored in Eastern Europe, mostly in Hungary where he was a missionary, church planter, Bible College director at Calvary Chapel Bible College Europe, and most recently the pastor of Golgota Budapest. Phil is also the author of the book, A Story of Grace: Beyond the Iron Curtain. You can find a list of articles he has written here. In this episode, Phil and Nick discuss the unique challenges of preaching in an international context, as well as the importance of the mechanics of preaching, such as letting words “hang” in the air and being very intentional about words and stage presence. Finally, Phil discusses how he was able to preach up to 8 times a week during one season of his life.
