Nurturing an email list takes time, and while it will absolutely get you business, cold subscribers will take time to warm up and actually start purchasing from you. But this is a long-term strategy that adds to the stability of your business.
Even though attracting subscribers is the topic of discussion for today, I’m going to tell you something controversial: it’s not where I would start when opening a small business! Instead, it’s something I would continue to invest in over time, but it won’t get you that initial attraction.

979: Starting a Business without a Single Follower
Today, I want to dig into how I would start a business if there’s no existing audience — how I would get off the ground, how we would get momentum, how I would create a community of people who are actually listening to what I have to say and how I would make real tangible dollar bills as early as possible in the process. But before we get into the strategies, I just want to say that I have never met someone who actually has no audience.

Perhaps you’ve never started a page with this focus, or this niche, but we have connections, and it’s our job to leverage the connections that already exist. I’m here to tell you that ultimately, the number of people in your audience has little to no relationship to the actual amount of sales that you can generate. The number of followers does not matter! It’s about creating the right community that is supportive of where you’re going. So, let’s dive in.

978: How I’m Prepping My Business to Run Without Me (For 7 Days)
You’re not going to bring your entire wardrobe on a trip, you’re just going to bring what you need! I am leaving the country very soon and I thought I’d show you how I’m preparing my business to run without me while I’m gone. I am headed to the UK for seven days, and I am so excited because I haven’t left the USA in 13 years!

Last August, I joined a leadership course, and now we’re all going to the UK together. I’ve known for almost a year now that I am going to be gone for a week, and while I wanted to spend a ton of time preparing my business, I’m 10 days out and realizing that I need to get it together!
I think we all enter a time in our business where we are excited about stepping away but don’t want to drop the ball. So I’m going to share how I’m (realistically) making it happen for myself and how you can too.

975: Behind the Build: Why I Started 100 Day Visibility School
I am posting for 100 days in a row on social media, and I am putting out content that is meant to help people grow their visibility, their followers, their email subscribers, or their buyers. I specifically wanted to put this out into the world so that I could also grow my own list, with the goal of adding 10,000 subscribers in 100 days. Now, this episode is the full behind-the-scenes, why I decided to do it, how it’s different from my 100-Day LinkedIn experiment, and why I’m scared out of my mind. But I’m confident this is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

973: I’m Writing a Book—and It Might Be the Dumbest Smart Thing I’ve Ever Done
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to write a book! It feels weird to say out loud, but I know that by sharing this with you, I will also hold myself accountable and publish this thing. I’ve had a few books stewing around in my brain for a few years now. But, after taking a swing at a partnered brand deal a few years ago and deciding it wasn’t the right fit for my first book, I’ve been a bit deflated. But people like Justin Moore, who wrote Sponsor Magnet, and Jay Clouse, whom I hosted for a super inspiring conversation and is in the throes of writing his own conversation, have helped me to reconsider. Let’s get into it!
