265 Confidence Killers & Confidence Builders
A player’s confidence is fragile and is often thought to be in the coach’s hands. If you’ve coached long enough, you have likely been accused of killing a player’s confidence. Coaches may get defensive when facing the blame for a player's crisis in confidence, but it's worth examining the coach's role in helping to build and maintain a player's faith in themselves. At the same time, we would all likely agree that a player should ultimately be responsible for how they think about their game. In this episode, JP and Nate discuss the balancing act of these two competing perspectives.
√ Is it the player’s responsibility or coach’s role?
√ The detrimental effect of unpredictability
√ Having the conversation impacts confidence
√ Understanding the importance of the inner-narrative

262 Seeking Discomfort
Comfort is not the answer. It is discomfort. In his book, The Comfort Crisis, Michael Easter discusses that our sheltered, sterile, temperature-controlled, overfed, underchallenged, lives are the leading cause of many of our most urgent physical and mental health issues. Since reading Easter’s book, JP has pursued discomfort - which led him to running 120 miles across Ireland in under 40 hours in The Kerry Way ultra-marathon. JP shares his journey from inspiration to perspiration as he explores the value of running toward discomfort and lessons learned along the way.
√ The Challenge of the Misogi
√ Getting to the starting line
√ Getting to the finish line
√ …And everything in between
