We are delighted to be joined by Jo Maher, Principal & CEO of Loughborough College, and former senior leader at Boston College and Reaseheath College. With a background in sports psychology, Jo has worked with athletes from grassroots to Olympic standard and with professional sports teams, alongside her work in education. She has been a Youth Commissioner for the Learning and Work Institute, a Trustee of the Skills Education Group and was lead psychologist for World Skills Team UK.
Jo has regularly contributed to the Times Educational Supplement, has delivered conference speeches to the Federation of Awarding Bodies and Skills Education Group and has chaired a forum on implementing technical and vocational education reform. Her essay on apprenticeships reform was part of a House of Commons debate.

She was born and grew up in Hsinchu, Taiwan and moved to California when she was 12. May then graduated from UC Berkeley with a business major and education minor and worked in finance for a few years before becoming a high school math teacher in San Jose, California. During her off hours, May loves to spend time with her husband Casey and 2.5year old baby girl Joyelle!

Edufuturists #160 - AI and Sustainability in Education with Lord Jim Knight
Lord Jim Knight is back to discuss some of his newest projects. Jim works in education, medtech and as a legislator, now as a Director of Suklaa Ltd. He is a founder of XRapid, enabling diagnosis of malaria and asbestos fibres using iPhones. As a UK government minister his portfolios included rural affairs, schools, digital and employment. He was a member of Gordon Brown’s Cabinet 2009-2010, before joining the Lords after the 2010 General Election. He is also a visiting Professor at the Knowledge Lab of the UCL Institute of Education. His Education Bill (Environment and Sustainable Citizenship) is currently working its way through Parliament.

Edufuturists #158 - Digital Communities with Andrew Strachan
We are grateful today to be joined by Andrew Strachan. Andrew has spent a decade in secondary education holding roles as a Head of Department, whole school IT lead and Assistant Headteacher, in addition to working as a Technical Project Manager in a service delivery industry prior to entering the teaching profession. Andrew’s current role is Director of Digital Strategy with Emmanuel Schools Foundation.
The Emmanuel Schools Foundation is a geographically dispersed trust of 6 large secondary schools and two primaries in the north of England. Andrew is responsible for all aspects of how IT is used both in and out of the classroom, including Digital pedagogy, IT infrastructure and IT service Delivery. Andrew has previously worked closely with the Google for Education EMEA team and is currently a Microsoft Innovative Education Fellow and Master Trainer. Andrew is a member of the education think tank ‘The Edtech Advisory forum’ and holds an MEd in Leadership and Management.

He has a Masters degree in Person-Centred Education from the University of Sussex, and a PhD in Learning to Learn from the University of Cambridge. James is a Bespoke Programmes Leader at the University College London Institute of Education. He is also the Director of Rethinking Education.

Edufuturists #156 - Education in The Army with Rich Watts
We are grateful today to be joined by Rich Watts from The Army. We will be looking at a whole range of topics today and why the army is investing in education, especially in its future.
Rich is a qualified teacher with over 10 years’ experience in the classroom, he has an MA in Education from the University of Winchester. He has worked in several roles in schools, including Head of Faculty. Rich left the classroom in 2018 to head up the British Army Supporting Education (BASE) Programme. Since taking charge they have won Best Educational Programme at the 2020 Corporate Engagement Awards. And more recently won the Best Free Resource at the 2021 Teach Secondary Awards for their new LGBTQ+ Voices resource.
