He has a Masters degree in Person-Centred Education from the University of Sussex, and a PhD in Learning to Learn from the University of Cambridge. James is a Bespoke Programmes Leader at the University College London Institute of Education. He is also the Director of Rethinking Education.

We are grateful today to be joined by Rich Watts from The Army. We will be looking at a whole range of topics today and why the army is investing in education, especially in its future.   Rich is a qualified teacher with over 10 years’ experience in the classroom, he has an MA in Education from the University of Winchester. He has worked in several roles in schools, including Head of Faculty. Rich left the classroom in 2018 to head up the British Army Supporting Education (BASE) Programme. Since taking charge they have won Best Educational Programme at the 2020 Corporate Engagement Awards. We are joined by the masterful Al Kingsley, Group CEO of Netsupport and long time friend of the podcast. This is Al’s fourth (yes fourth!) time on the podcast - episode 32, 121 and right back when we were In The Studio with - on episode 9! You would’ve thought Al would’ve had enough of us by now!   Al started his career with Barclays Bank then Unilever, working within finance and management accounting before focusing on the early adoption of new IT technologies in the early 90s. He is Chair of 3 governing bodies and is the author of lots of articles as well as My Secret EdTech Diary which came out earlier this year!

Firstly, we are joined by bestselling author and cultural guru, long-time friend of the podcast, David Price OBE (this must be his fifth appearance or something by now!)   We are also joined by Summer Howarth, who joined us on episode #94 about designing great learning, and then at our 2020 Awards event. Summer has worked in every corner of the education scene, from school to university and government. She has been named on The Educator Annual Hotlist three times, has held positions on a number of boards, advises to the Global Educator Taskforce to the UN on Sustainable Development Goals and The Hundred Global Innovations selection panel and holds a Paul Harris Fellowship for her services to Education. Summer is a sought after advisor, strategist & facilitator.   Last but not least, we are joined for the first time by Chris Harte and Chris is someone we have tried to get on the podcast for some time - we are so glad we get to do this now. Chris is founder and director at Unstuck Learning Design and focuses on design thinking at an organisational and individual level, digital technology and learning spaces (both physical and virtual), learner centred pedagogy and learning models and strategies to enhance higher order thinking, learner efficacy and engagement.

In this episode we are joined by Sam Gichuru. Sam is the CEO and founder of Kidato. Kidato is an online school based in Nairobi that offers live online academic and after school classes for kids ages 4 to 18. They currently have over 1885+ students who take part in  interactive classes like Coding, Chess, Art, Music, Sport and Languages. An amazing achievement considering it was only launched one year ago.    Sam is a serial entrepreneur. He is also founder & CEO of Nailab: Kenya’s leading business incubator, accelerator & seed fund. He is also co-founder of Kuhustle.com, a Freelance gig work platform for Africa, with 50,000+ users.

We are delighted today to be joined by Professor Guy Claxton, Cognitive Scientist by training and writer of over 30 books on psychology and education, most recently a fascinating discussion on The Future of Teaching and the Myths that hold it back which John Hattie called ‘A timely tour de force’ and has a Foreword from Dylan William.   Many of you will have heard of Professor Claxton’s Learning Power Approach and will know that although he has officially retired, he is still Honorary Professor of Education at University of Bristol, Visiting Professor,at King's College London and Emeritus Professor, University of Winchester.  He has a 'double first' in Natural Sciences from Cambridge and a DPhil in Experimental Psychology from Oxford. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, the Academy of Social Sciences, and the Royal Society of Arts. edufuturists.com Jerry Ray is Chief Operations Officer of SecureAge Technology, he has more than 15 years of experience in process engineering, consulting and global finance in the U.S. and Asia Pacific Region. He received his technical education in Operations Research Engineering from Cornell University, and later supplemented that with Degrees in International Economics and Comparative Policy Analysis at the University of Florida and the University of California, San Diego. He began his career as a Production Research Engineer at the Konica Corporation, then served as a Technical Solutions Advisor for a large Japanese Disney affiliate, and as a Process and Optimization Consultant in Amsterdam for a joint venture between the Japan Management Association Consultancy and the Ford Motor Company. In the U.S., Jerry provided international business risk analysis while at SAIC and independently crafted Asian market entry strategies as a consultant to several U.S. IT security and related technology firms.

We are joined by Conrad Taylor & Adam Dwight. Conrad is the Business Learning & Technologies Manager at City of Wolverhampton College, where he ensures the college is using the latest technology and the digital up-skilling of all staff and students. He has over 20 years’ experience in further education and his passion lies in fostering collaborative practice, personal development and creative thinking.   Adam has been a lecturer in FE for the last 25 years. In more recent years, he has become a lecturer in Teacher Education and a Learning Innovator supporting staff in the use of technology and embedding 21st century learning skills. Next month he will have his Viva for his PhD in Sports Equality.
