Secret Gospels, Gay Jesus, Jesus’ Wife, & Pinocchio

We continue our discussion on the Secret Gospel of Mark with Dr. Tony Burke of York University. This mysterious text has been used by some to “prove” that Jesus was gay while others claim it’s a forgery. We come at it from all angles, but Secret Mark is not all we talk about in this episode of our Talk Gnosis After Dark podcast. We touch on the intersection between new media, old media and scholarly publication and discourse. Plus, fascinating conversations on Dr. Burke’s connection to the media sensation of The Lost Gospel, and how Pinocchio can be used to teach Gnosticism. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP049/TGAD%20EP%20049%20.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #49

Enlightened Sage or Fat-Headed Egoist?

Deacon John DiGilio has a background in both Gnosticism and Eastern traditions so he’s the perfect guest for us to ask about the criticism that Buddhism and Gnosticism is too self-centered. Here on After Dark the Bishops continue our Gnarcissism episode, with the addition of Father Tony, and get deeper into the effects of individual spiritual practices, the question of “is Gnosticism is only for special smart folks?”,  fancy hats and titles, and the fact that this whole reality is just happening in Father Tony’s head. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP047/TGAD%20EP%20047%20.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #47

Ride this Chariot to the Stars

We love to jaw about the Gospel of Thomas, and in this After Dark Bishops Lainie and Ken, plus Father Tony, are joined by Bishop Lewis Keizer for a new perspective on the GoT. Bishop Lewis Keizer’s research has shown him that Jesus of Nazareth was originally a wisdom teacher of secret mystical knowledge in the traditions of Kabbalah, Merkaba, and Gnosticism. Jesus showed his inner circle of disciples how, through study and meditation, to ascend to have personal experiences with the Divine. The best record we have of these teachings is the Gospel of Thomas, a text Bishop Keizer believes to be often misunderstood. Hear all about it in the podcast below. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP046/TGAD%20EP%20046%20.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #46

Angelic Hangouts

Frater Aschen Chassan is a practicing occultist and grimoiric traditionalist who has been involved in traditional forms of Western ceremonial magic for over fourteen years. He joined us on Talk Gnosis to discuss working with angels and he stuck around to keep the conversation going for this edition of our After Dark podcast. As the podcast portion frequently tends to the wide-ranging Bishops Lainie and Ken, and Father Tony, have a conversation with the good Frater that traverses all levels, dimensions, and states of being. Some of what we cover includes the Frater’s early supernatural experiences, the role of angels in a Gnostic worldview, what working with angels means spiritually, life after death, and gifts and callings. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP045/TGAD%20EP%20045.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #45 Get the new paperback edition of Frater Aschen Chassan’s book right here: Gateways Through Stone and Circle Check out his blog: A Magician’s Workings

Getting Divine With Seth

The religious geniuses who created the imaginative Sethian Gnostic texts composed wild myths that incorporated the heights of Greek philosophy, the power of Christian mysticism, and Judaism’s poetic lyricism. Scholarship is revealing more and more about their origins and beliefs and Dr. Dylan Burns’ new book Apocalypse of the Alien God: Platonism and the Exile of Sethian Gnosticism is at the forefront of the academic study of these Gnostics. Bishop Lainie, Brother Jonathan, and Father Tony, geek out in this After Dark where we get to ask all of our Sethian themed questions to Dr. Burns. We go all the way back to Gnostic origins to what’s going on with modern groups trying to carry on their legacy. Plus the Five Seals! Apocalyptic ascents through the heavens!! Why the term Gnosticism is actually useful!!! https://archive.org/download/TGADEP044/TGAD%20EP%20044.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #44

Waking Up to the Cosmos with Meditation

Don’t just do something…sit there. It’s time to pull out the meditation cushion and plop yourself down and get meditating, whatever your style might be. Centering prayer, mantra meditation, the bodyscan, there are so many techniques and so many methods, and we come at them from the Gnostic perspective. Bishop Tim Mansfield and Father Tony join our hosts Bishops Lainie and Ken to get contemplative on the topic of meditation and find out how mindfulness can aid in our quest for Gnosis. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP042/TGAD%20EP%20042.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #42

Following the Trail of Gnosis

The beauty of the Gospel of Thomas is the layers and levels of meaning packed into every saying. On Talk Gnosis After Dark #41 we investigate Logion 23: Jesus says: “I will choose you, one from a thousand and two from ten thousand, and those whom I have chosen will be lifted up, being one!” This passage is a catalyst for Bishops Lainie and Ken, along with Father Tony and Brother Jonathan, to debate if Gnosticism is for all, to discuss union with the all, and to reveal the Gnostic trails laid out to us in our own lives. https://archive.org/download/TGADEP041/TGAD%20EP%20041.mp3 Or download the podcast by right clicking and saving this link: Talk Gnosis After Dark #41
