219: Action Mapping and Activity Design with Cathy Moore

When it comes to training design, perhaps focusing on what people need to be able to do, not simply what they need to know, can make all the difference. That’s because this leads to activity-centered training rather than traditional information presentations. These concepts are what led Cathy Moore, speaker, training designer, and author of Map It: The Hands-On Guide to Strategic Training Design, to create the action mapping model. Her goal is to “save the world from boring instruction” and her tools and resources are helping to do this one learner at a time. In this encore episode of the Leading Learning podcast, Celisa talks with Cathy about action mapping including what it is, why it’s effective, and how to apply it. They also cover the role action mapping plays in measurement and evaluation and scenario design. 217: Leading a Learning Economy with Duncan Cox and Taylor Kendal

With a global mission to “accelerate the world toward 21st century education and workplace infrastructures, address inequity with student and employee centric models, and connect the fragmented ecosystem of stakeholders into a unified hub of innovation”, Learning Economy is focused on solving some of the world’s toughest challenges. And how do they plan to accomplish their ambitious mission? A key way is through blockchain, the technology that allows for capturing and tracking digital data in a very secure and decentralized way while ensuring integrity and transparency. Utilizing blockchain, Learning Economy hopes to establish a protocol that can bring together data from every source of education for every learner, to understand where value may - or may not - be created. In this episode of the Leading Learning Podcast, Jeff talks with Learning Economy’s Chief Strategy Advisor, Taylor Kendal and Community Director, Duncan Cox, about how they’re using blockchain to change how we track individual learning and the idea of an open education graph to provide a visualization of the value being generated across the supply chain of education. They also discuss what they describe as the four archenemies of what they’re up against and share about a pilot that Learning Economy is getting ready to launch in Colorado that will provide a concrete point of reference for implementing the protocol more broadly. 216: Working Out Loud with John Stepper

After working three decades for various large, global companies, John Stepper – a self-described “accidental entrepreneur” – began searching for ways to get more out of work and life. This search is what ultimately led him to create Working Out Loud, an approach to building relationships that helps you achieve a goal by making contributions over time that you make visible to others. Not only does the process increase access to more people, knowledge, and opportunities, but it leads to greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, and motivation as well. And his book, Working Out Loud: For a Better Career and Life, guides you through the twelve-week mastery program to help you put the approach into practice yourself and then turn that practice into a sustainable habit. In this episode of the Leading Learning Podcast, Celisa talks with John about the concept of working out loud including its five basic elements, ways it benefits participants, and related common barriers. They also discuss how to set the stage for successfully working out loud and ways to structure the working out loud experience through Working Out Loud circles. 215: 3 Factors That Limit Sales of Education

When trying to understand what it takes to succeed in the education business –particularly when it comes to increasing sales – there are many factors to consider. And it usually doesn’t have anything to do with having the latest bells and whistles, or perhaps a huge catalog of offerings. In fact, what we’ve observed over two decades of extensive research and consulting, is that it typically comes down to three fundamental areas. In this episode, we examine the three factors that often impact and limit sales of education. We also discuss the important takeaways and questions learning businesses need to consider when trying to achieve success in each of these key areas. 212: After Action Live Review

With the launch of a new event recently behind us, we wanted to devote some time to reflect on the experience. And, as we have done with past Leading Learning events, we are utilizing the After Action Review (AAR) as a framework to guide that reflection process. For those that might not be aware, the new event - Live Review 2019 - was a two-day, entirely online offering that allowed participants a chance to get targeted demos from 14 learning platforms focused on learning businesses and committed to serving organizations that market and sell lifelong learning, continuing education, and professional development. In this episode of the Leading Learning Podcast, Jeff and Celisa reflect on Live Review using the guiding components of AAR: what it is they set out to do, what actually happened, why there was a difference between the two (if there was one), and what they will continue and/or change going forward.
