Gratitude Blooming
In Season 4 of the Gratitude Blooming podcast, Wayfinding Through the Unknown, a monthly conversation hosted by Belinda Liu and Omar Brownson, we slow down to explore wild, emergent living, guided by the rhythms of nature and the wisdom within. Joining us as a regular guest is the brilliant Dr. Paul Wang, whose deep knowledge of Chinese medicine, Daoism, and alchemical traditions expands our understanding of transformation beyond the elements. Together, we embrace the practice of pausing, noticing, and feeling—grounding ourselves in presence as we navigate life's unfolding. The Gratitude Blooming card deck was inspired by the artist Arlene Kim Suda and her 100 Days of Blooming Love art project. Sometimes life happens to you, but it doesn’t have to crush you.
Send us a textThis week’s Gratitude Blooming theme is trust represented by the Wildflower. When times are tough, how do we trust enough to remain unmoving until the water clears itself? Mario Jefferson’s story inspires us to create new personal narratives around trusting ourselves, each other, and the systems we exist in.As a black youth raised in the foster care system of the south, Mario witnessed life through failed family, community, religious and legal systems. Rather than being crushed by the violence and disillusionment of his upbringing, he found a way to maintain his sunny disposition on life.He traveled west to join the Occupy LA Movement, which became a critical turning point to leverage his natural gifts as a mediator, technologist and systems thinker in creating a new financial system we can all put our trust in, especially for his daughter and her future generations. Addiction: Everyday is a crossroads to hope
Send us a textThis week’s theme is HOPE represented by the Azalea flower NFT. With recovery advocate Aaron Marks, we explore the biological and emotional impact of substance use. This knowledge comes from his own 17 years in recovery. He asks a very simple question to make addiction clear: If you were very thirsty or hungry, what would you do to fix that? He is a leader in the space as the Co-founder of Misfit Robots, an NFT project building out Mental Health as a Service in Web3, President of the Board at a non profit treatment center, the Chair of the Prevention and Education Subcommittee for the US Attorney’s Opioid Task Force, a public speaker, and fierce advocate for reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorder. Want emotional freedom? The stoic secret is in your reactions according to @Zeneca_33
Send us a textEmotional freedom is learning you can’t control the world, but you can control how you react to it. We explore in this wide-ranging conversation with stoic-inspired NFT leader @Zeneca_33 how he overcame his depression, his relationship to alcohol, dropping out of law school to become one the driving forces in the world of NFTs and web3. One key inspiration (and namesake for his online handle) is from Seneca, a stoic philosopher from 2000 years ago, who said, “Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.” Another key inspiration for @Zeneca_33 relates to the Gratitude Blooming theme of Friendship, represented by the nasturtium. He gives credit to the “unending conversation” he has with his best friend for helping him be where and who he is today. Collect the Nasturtium NFT with its two pollinating bees and the theme of friendship as a reminder of who you appreciate in your life. It’s also a great way to support us sharing more gratitude in the world. Finally, in the meme spirit of web3, go touch some grass today! Beyond mindfulness with UK psychotherapist and Misfit Robots co-founder Marianne Le Coyte Grinney
Send us a textWe are part of something bigger than ourselves. This week, we are joined from the UK by psychotherapist and co-founder of Misfit Robots Marianne Le Coyte Grinney. Together, we explore the systems of care that are essential to our mental health and the Gratitude Blooming theme of Sorrow, represented by the flower the Touch-me-not. Marianne reminds us that mental health at its most basic level is a simple way to talk about the health of our brain. Some simple practices introduced by Marianne to help get grounded: Pay attention to your screen time. Less is better. Get rest. And recognize that FOMO happens. It’s okay to feel and to figure out what will make you feel better. Lastly, Marianne introduced the practice of autogenics, a method to support relaxation. It means “coming from within”. The practice supports connecting to your own nervous system and to calm it down. Atomic Interactions with blogger Livia Chan, M.Ed
Send us a textEvery moment matters. Teacher and blogger Livia Chan learned early in life that you don’t know when it will be the last time you get to say goodbye to the ones you love. In her 20s, Livia lost her best friend and grandmother. Since then, Livia has made it a point to make sure to count her blessings by making every moment count. She calls these everyday moments Atomic Interactions.Valuing these small moments is a practice of healing or feeling into our wholeness. We are emotional beings with somatic coach Steve Seto
Send us a textEmbodiment practices are reminders that we are emotional beings before we are physical beings, according to somatic coach Steve Seto. He shares how your emotions are not something you watch like a television show, but something you experience directly. In mindfulness practices, there are times when it is good to be like a sky and watch the cloud of your emotions. Sometimes, however, we feel sadness or grief and all we can do is be the rain and let the water flow. Spiritual Protocols with Michael Preston
Send us a textProtocols are the basic set of rules that define how information can be exchanged whether it is a biological cell or the transfer of data between computers, even cryptocurrency. This week we explore the theme of Infinite Possibility, represented by the delphinium, and learn about spiritual protocols from Michael Pom Preston from the Winnemem Wintu tribe of Mt. Shasta in Northern California. He claims spiritual responsibility to the winnemem wywakit (McCloud River) and this is the spiritual background that he speaks from. He is also an enrolled member of the Susanville Indian Rancheria in Susanville California as a descendent of the Wada Ticutta Numu (Seed Eater Paiute), Modoc, and Ilmawi/Madesi Pit River tribes. He shares how ceremony and spiritual enlightenment are the highest technology there is, even in our day-to-day life.
