Christopher Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod is a roundtable discussion on the exciting state of quantum sensors. Guests included Stuart Woods, Chief Operating and Strategy Officer, Quantum Exponential ; Niall Holmes, Founder and Scientific Advisor, Cerca Magnetics Limited, and Pete Stirling, CEO at Delta g.
Cerca Magnetics Limited has created OPM-MEG - the world's most advanced functional brain scanner – an integrated, #3D printable wearable device leveraging quantum sensors to provide “a revolutionary product to transform the neuroimaging landscape.” This device measures magnetic fields at 50 locations around the scalp, offering complete brain coverage. The initial focus is detecting childhood epilepsy.
Delta g’s cutting-edge underground imaging system leverages quantum technology to measure gravity gradients beneath the earth’s surface. Use cases include mapping as-built utility infrastructure, improving the monitoring of sinking buildings from climate change or seismic activity, and discovering hidden natural resources.
Quantum Exponential has invested in Delta g and also sponsored the Institute of Physics' qBIG prize which Cerca Magnetics won.
These companies are providing transformative, real-world applications of quantum sensors. Stuart shared his perspective on why, from a VC perspective, these are such exciting times for quantum sensors.

Quantum Tech Pod Episode 54: Silicon Spin Quantum Computing with Stephanie Simmons, Chief Quantum Officer, Photonic
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Dr. Stephanie Simmons, Chief Quantum Officer at Photonic is live!
Stephanie describes herself as a “quantum native” - she was a huge nerd growing up and was upset that her parents only introduced her to programming at age nine! She came across quantum when she was 16 and has been heads down into it ever since. She is looking forward to a future with many more quantum natives!
Her perspective is that human progress is always anchored in the commercialization of various branches of physics – which has led us to where we are today exploring quantum!
Photonic is working the middle ground between silicon photonics and silicon spins to create a silicon spin interface. Since spin qubits are essentially unpaired electrons, they are brilliant qubits. This approach will allow users to fill rooms with modular rack-mountable devices that can scale across a whole data center.
Check out Chris's fascinating conversation with Dr. Stephanie Simmons!

Quantum Tech Pod Episode 53: Si-Hui Tan, Chief Science Officer, Horizon Quantum Computing
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Si-Hui Tan, Chief Science Officer at Horizon Quantum Computing is live! Dr. Tan has a Bachelor of Science with honors in Physics from Caltech and PhD in Physics from MIT.
Prior to joining Horizon, she spent 5 years as a researcher at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Dr. Tan also spent a year as a Visiting Professor at the Niels Bohr International Academy at the University of Copenhagen.
Horizon’s approach allows users to write programs in classical languages that can be compiled and run on conventional or quantum computers, without any knowledge of quantum computing. The output can be instruction sets in the language of the targeted processor and is not limited to any specific libraries.
Her advice to women interested in working in quantum? "Look for role models! It can be hard and it might take some time to find them, but surround yourself with allies and stay strong against naysayers – be yourself!"
Check out my fascinating conversation with Dr. Tan!
