EP11 - Amy Williams on Vulnerability

Amy is celebrated as one of Britain’s most famous Winter Olympians. She literally shot to prominence in 2010 in Vancouver, where she won Gold in the women's skeleton. It was Britain's first gold medal in an individual event of the Winter Games for 30 years, and the first by a British woman for a staggering 58 years. In that event, she broke the track record twice and she finished more than half a second ahead of her rivals - a huge margin, in a sport where winners are generally separated by hundredths of a second. Few are better placed to describe the physical vulnerability of elite sport, as her job involved hurtling headfirst on a sled at breakneck, teeth-rattling speeds of up to 90 miles an hour, just inches off the ice. Amy’s career encapsulates the demands and stresses of high performance sport, which inevitably involve uncertainty, risk, sometimes harm, and both physical and emotional exposure.........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP10 - Stuart Pearce on Despair

Stuart has a special place in the hearts of English sports fans. A one-time electrician, playing football for non-league Wealdstone, he rose to prominence under the legendary Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest, before spells with Newcastle and Manchester City. Known as “Psycho” for his emotion, his passion and his unforgiving style on the pitch, he won 78 caps for England, and is perhaps best remembered for his contrasting penalties at two major Championships: The overwhelming despair of the now legendary World Cup semi-final of 1990, and the subsequent joy of the shoot-out in England’s exhilarating quarter-final at Euro ’96..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP9 - Martin Offiah on Courage

Martin was arguably the greatest rugby league player of his generation, and amongst those of any generation. A showman, he collected 20 Cup winning medals across a glittering career that featured an eye-watering 501 tries, many of them mesmerising in their brilliance, and courageous in their conception. He was dazzlingly fast, beautifully balanced, strong in contact and possessed a rare gift for finding the try line. Displaying the courage to be different in his approach, and to overcome horrific racial abuse, Martin was an integral part of the all-conquering Wigan team of the ’80s and ’90s, and scored 26 tries in his 33 appearances for Great Britain on the international stage. He finished with an MBE and a statue outside Wembley..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP8 - Dame Katherine Grainger on Defiance

Katherine is Great Britain’s most decorated female Olympian. The ultimate high-flyer, now chairman of UK Sport, Katherine's remarkable sporting ability led her to no fewer than 5 Olympic medals, spanning 5 separate Games. As a student rower, she was banished to the ignominy of the University’s 5th boat, at the outset of her sporting journey. In defiance of expectation, she rose through the ranks to achieve sporting immortality on the water. Defiance played a significant role in seeing her through the extreme physical demands of her sport, the perils of early morning training in all weathers, and particularly in her relentless pursuit of gold after three consecutive silver medals in Sydney, Athens and Beijing. On home water in the London Olympics her dream finally turned to reality, in front of an adoring crowd at Dorney Lake..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP7 - Dylan Hartley on Hunger

Throughout a 16 year professional career in rugby union, Dylan pushed his body and mind right to the limits, and sometimes even a little beyond. His is a colourful story of scrapes with the authorities, and brushes with greatness as a leader of men and winner of trophies. He left his native New Zealand at the age of just 16, with a hunger and a drive that led to successful spells with first Worcester and then Northampton. His abrasive, unflinching style quickly led him to international rugby, where his hunger caught the eye of the inspirational, but famously tough taskmaster (and current England coach) Eddie Jones. Dylan retired aged 33 as a Grand Slam winning captain of England, and the country’s most capped hooker of all time..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP6 - Sir Andrew Strauss on Trust

Andrew is amongst the most successful and lauded England cricket captains of all time, and one of only three men to lead his country to Ashes Test series wins both home, and away. From a starting position of some disarray, his ability to engender trust and confidence in his England team led them all the way to the world number one ranking. The trust in his technique and ability saw him play 100 Test matches, and amass more than 7000 Test runs with a batting average of more than 40, including 21 centuries. His spell as captain coincided with the managerial stint of Andy Flower, and together they forged a crucial bond of trust in each other, and transformed a disparate band of cricketers into a team of world beaters. In the latter part of his career, his trust in the players was put to the ultimate test by Kevin Pietersen..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP5 - Annabel Croft on Fear

Annabel is one of Britain’s best loved tennis presenters, and a former British Number One who carried all before her as a junior player. At the age of 18, she won the Junior titles at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and she reached the 3rd round of the main draw at SW19 in the same year. She was considered to be the brightest of British tennis prospects, reaching a career high world ranking of 24. Annabel quit tennis at the age of just 21, at times crippled by fear on court. She describes moments of hyper-ventilation during matches and of a mental freeze that afflicted her, and left her unable to perform. The pressures and strains of expectation, and the loneliness of life on the tennis tour as a young girl took their toll. She sought help from many quarters, including a hypnotherapist. But the fear wouldn’t subside and the unhappiness of tennis competition forced her to call time, many years before she might have reached her peak..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP4 - David Weir on Joy

David is one of Britain’s most decorated Paralympic athletes, becoming a household name in the glorious sporting summer of 2012. He was born with a spinal cord transection, meaning he has no movement in the lower half of his body. His early years were enormously challenging, but through a combination of God-given talent, and an unbending will, he rose through the sporting ranks to experience the joy of an extraordinary eight London Marathon victories, as a wheelchair racer, and no fewer than six Paralympic Gold medals, to go with his two silvers and two bronze. Four of those Gold medals came in a sensational ten days during the London Games, a period which led to untold joy on the track, and a deep satisfaction off it, at the changing perception of Paralympic athletes both in this country and across the globe..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices. EP3 - Joe Root on Clarity

Joe is England’s current Test cricket captain and is just a couple of victories away from being the most successful skipper the country has ever had. So talented, driven and clear-thinking was he as a youngster that he played senior club cricket at the age of just 12. Happily he has managed to retain his deep, infectious love for the game as he continues to lead his country. With more than 8000 Test runs at an average of 48, and 18 Test centuries, he is firmly established amongst the elite batsmen of the game, and has held the Number 1 world ranking. Clarity of purpose shines through Joe’s career, and clarity of thought is a constant theme as he does battle with the world’s top bowlers, in some of the most hostile, intimidating arenas. His ability to keep his head in the maelstrom of top flight cricket has helped the English game flourish, with the Cricket World Cup win in 2019 just one of many successes..........................................Running on Emotion hosted by Alastair Eykyn is an original podcast by Eykyn Media for Auddy#runningonemotionSpecial thanks all of our guests on the show.Host, Alastair EykynSeries Producer, Andrew SampsonSound Editor, Norman GoodmanAlbum Art, Nicole StewartTheme Music by Audio Networks Learn more about your ad choices.
