The Importance of Language — Why Words Matter
Thank you for supporting The ADHD Podcast on Patreon! — https://patreon.com/theadhdpodcast
Words are important. Since our conversation with James Ochoa and our efforts to change our language around the words manage versus navigate, we’ve heard from many listeners who are trying to change their language, too. This week, we’re taking on so-called “binary language,” conditions we set for ourselves in which there are only two conditions; good or bad, sick or healthy, smart or dumb, organized or not. When you shine a light on this kind of language, it sounds ridiculous, but how often do we let these terms creep into our lives subconsciously?

Thank you for supporting The ADHD Podcast on Patreon! — https://patreon.com/theadhdpodcast
We’re wrapping up ADHD Awareness Month with a Digital episode this week, taking a look at one of our long-standing requests: what do you need to look for to silence the notifications on your devices and help you take control of the things that have access to your attention.
But once you’ve silenced the notifications, what are you going to do with all that reclaimed headspace? Put it to good use with some introspective journaling! We talk about Pete’s favorite tools and prompts for journaling, and invite you to check out our friend Michelle Chalfant’s 30-Day Journaling Challenge for the month of November!

Dissecting the Emotional Distress Syndrome of ADHD with James Ochoa
Thank you for supporting The ADHD Podcast on Patreon! — https://patreon.com/theadhdpodcast
When we first read his book, Focused Forward: Navigating the Storms of Adult ADHD, we became fast fans of James Ochoa. He writes candidly about his experience living with ADHD, struggling with ADHD, overcoming the hurdles of ADHD. But beyond that, he’s a counselor himself, working with the complex tapestries that are adults with ADHD. Today, we’re thrilled to be able to welcome James to the show to share a little bit about his own journey and to introduce us to one of the central themes in his work: the ADHD Emotional Distress Syndrome. We’re sure you’ll want to find out more about James and encourage you to pick up his book — easy and truly eye-opening reading!

How do I talk to others about my ADHD?
Thank you for supporting The ADHD Podcast on Patreon! — https://patreon.com/theadhdpodcast
Talking with others about our ADHD can be a tricky subject. If you’re not completely comfortable with your ADHD and how it affects your work and life, talking about it can be surrounded in self-judgment, even if that judgment isn’t reflected in reality. This week on the show, we have two guests and fellow podcasters to help us navigate this conversation and give you some great advice and a sound reality check on talking to others about your ADHD!
