S3:EP06: "You selfish bastard..."

It’s not what you’re doing; it’s who you’re being when you’re doing that. There’s only one way to do it, whatever “it” is, and that’s your way. Every single one of us is a unique human being who has our own way that we can be successful in our own right, and we can do it that way better than anyone else. It’s hard to realize this because of all of the self-limiting beliefs that are rooted in pressures from social media. Rich’s clients today, Rene and Dan, are having a hard time creating their path in a way that’s genuine to their own person.   Rene took a brave step when she decided to become a professional coach just 2 years before she was set to retire from a 28-year successful corporate career. She came seeking permission to pursue her own path. Dan spent most of his career rehabilitating some of the most dangerous and violent criminal offenders in the world before he became a coach. He was searching for the reason why he was not doing what was most important to him. Rich is able to mess with their thinking to the point that they experience their insights in heavy silence.   In today’s episode: Getting caught up in other people’s highlight reels Building a business one relationship at a time Allowing yourself to be moved so that you can move other people Applying the 80/20 rule to your clients and business Where most addictions and fears really come from Being selfish with what we truly have to offer to the world What it’s like walking around with self-esteem issues Making your “avoid at all costs” lists   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S2:EP05: "It's meant to be hard"

There are thousands of books out there on how to be successful, but the problem is that once you win the race, there’s a tendency to still feel empty on the inside. Once you have reached that pinnacle as a top performer, acknowledgment starts to make you feel lazy. What you don’t realize is that you are so in the zone that this work is effortless for you. Your goal should be to feel lazier as your career goes on. Rich’s guests today, Kacey and Briony, are struggling with these fears. Kacey worked for a decade as a professional opera singer and actor across the globe. Now she is a high-level executive coach, with clients at Google, top TV networks, and on Broadway. Briony was a lawyer who appeared to have it all but on the inside, she felt empty. Leaving all that behind, she went on a journey of personal growth before setting up a coaching business to support high achievers – and those on their way. Remember, this whole rat race is meant to be hard. So when you do something great it’s okay to let yourself win!   In today’s episode: Feeling like you’re not fully committed even with great success Experiencing the feeling of laziness when receiving acknowledgment Letting yourself be happy without guilt when experiencing success Where our instinct to look out for danger comes from Knowing that the journey is meant to be hard Allowing life to get better and better every day Being at peace with the way that you do things Hearing yourself through all of the noise on social media Beautiful aspects of creating word-of-mouth businesses   Links to resources: The Big Leap   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S2:EP04: "What if I fail?"

Sometimes in the business world, less is more. You can’t possibly expect to be great at a million different things, so trying too much at once can result in failure. Remember, money can be the most creative expression of your creativity. Failure is inevitable and needs to happen in order to learn. Don’t be afraid to fail. Rich’s guests today are dealing with their own personal struggles as they transition into the coaching world.  Sarah got her Ph.D. in archaeology only to make the move to Portugal, meet the love of her life, and launch a coaching business, which is now oversubscribed. For some reason, she has forgotten just how brilliant she actually is. Tony served as a financial leader for a billion-dollar corporation before building his own financial consulting business. He is struggling to figure out how to bring his genius to his own business. Monica became a manager in the corporate world at 28 years old. For more than 13 years, she was a successful leader in an Austrian bank, yet she is being held back by her fear of failure. Each one will experience their own insight and realize how powerful they really are.   In today’s episode: Imposter syndrome and the fraud paradox Believing everything positive that anyone ever says about you Looking to make an impact on your clients’ lives every day Focusing on putting stuff out into the world to see where there is interest Using money as the greatest expression of your creativity Treating yourself as a client in order to change your world Remembering to create for yourself what you do for your customers Giving credit to past failures as stepping stones to where you are now Knowing that is okay to fail Why we as humans are very poor at estimating time Falling into the trap of thinking that you have to set goals Gentle reflection in the time between conversations   Links to resources: Essentialism   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S2:EP03: "The Power of A Man Ban..."

There’s no secret that making the switch to an entrepreneurial coaching career comes with a great amount of risk. The inevitable drop in the bank account will undoubtedly dampen a coach’s spirit, but to be successful in this game, one cannot measure their progress based on the amount in their bank account. Insight is just the first step on the way to creating your dream life. All of Rich’s clients today are making an uncertain and long transition into a coaching career in search of that dream life. Deborah was the COO for one of the largest local non-profits in the US where she consistently built top-performing teams. As the Chief of Staff to a VP at Google, Eric has helped grow their business past $100 billion. Angela just quit her 6-figure consulting business in search of a change. Each of them has a powerful insight moment when they get very still. The sound of insight is often silence... In today’s episode: Measuring success based on something other than the bank account Blessings that come with being fired Reasons that every part of your body is screaming, “This isn’t safe!” Looking inside for the real answers Differences between a motivational coach and a transformational coach Questioning where your apathy comes from Knowing when you don’t need a client and can breathe Implementing a temporary ban and what benefits come with that Recognizing the opportunities around you all the time   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S2:EP02: "I Believe in You..."

In life, it can feel like we are being pulled in 10 different directions at the same time. It can be stressful choosing which part of yourself to identify with. Well, what if you didn’t have to choose at all? Rich’s guests today, Manjeet and Jordan, are dealing with that struggle in their lives right now. Manjeet has been a consultant to some of Britain's top retailers for over a decade. Jordan has won awards in the advertising industry for her work. Both of them have transitioned into coaching. It can be scary making this shift in your life, especially when you have a family that you need to provide for. Coaches make the mistake of saying yes to coaching to anyone and everyone. Don’t jump into these relationships without asking the right questions. More important than any factor is your belief in yourself. You must believe to the core of you that working with you will change your clients’ lives. You can do it!   In today’s episode: Looking at the different parts of your life as 2 parts of the same person Searching for the authentic version of yourself Being a secret agent of coaching in your industry Framing your conversational tools in order to get your clients excited Changing client mindsets by understanding human behavior Navigating the emotional roller coaster of life and entrepreneurship Asking the right questions when vetting your potential clients Calling it what it is to avoid any guilt on your end and help them relax on theirs The true definition of consulting These are the most powerful words in coaching   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S2:EP01: "The Power of The Status Quo"

Rich loves his job because he gets paid to dig around in people’s minds. More specifically, he helps people change their view and path in life by guiding them to shift their mindset. Rich has the pleasure of helping two people, Matt and Cathy, to shift their mindsets. Matt is a former VP at a major sports league who he has created multi-million dollar deals. He is looking for value in his time and to find belief in himself. Cathy is a former head of digital marketing during a 14-year, 6-figure salary career in the corporate world, a cancer survivor, and an all-around giver. Being the giver that she is, asking for that monetary value for her coaching services has become a personal struggle for her. Rich is able to shed some light on their greatest competition, the status quo, so that they experience their own moments of insight. These insights will undoubtedly change the futures of their coaching businesses.   In today’s episode: Matt’s desired aspects for his future coaching business Expressing the value of your time to your clients Making up stuff about numbers in your own head Coming from a place of compassion and sharing in coaching Giving, taking, and matching in life Selling clients on the experience of coaching Spending too much money to learn about coaching instead of the business of coaching Why they are not saying yes Competing with the status quo Asking powerful questions in order to vet clients Committing to staying in your own zone of genius   List of resources: Give and Take Here's a powerful article on the difference between coaches who succeed vs coaches who struggle: https://richlitvin.com/successful-coach-or-struggling-coach/   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S1:EP10: "Stop Asking Permission"

Most of the time what we're afraid of is what we imagine other people will think. The funny thing is, that is the last thing we should worry about. There’s only one person that you have to live with for the rest of your life, and that’s yourself. Do not let the fear of what others think of you stop you from living before you die. More importantly, if we can learn to ignore ourselves, we can do anything we want. In this podcast, Rich tells a short story by Dave Trott to set the scene for Season Two of 1 Insight. In today’s episode: The Jane Juska story What stops us from being more daring Learning to ignore ourselves   List of resources: A Round Heeled Woman Predatory Thinking   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. S1:EP09: “The dark side of your gifts..."

Our gifts are what make us unique and who we are, but every gift we have has a dark side. There are inevitable consequences of what comes so naturally for us. People may just not be ready to benefit from your gifts. Rich’s guest today, Margaux Thévenin, was once in charge of the worldwide marketing strategy for an organization with a half a billion-dollar revenue. She came looking to prioritize her actions, but Rich serves his clients by not always listening to the first thing that they say. Today, he was able to look deeper and crack into Margaux’s real desires and needs. She had 1 Insight that caused her to go silent, then Rich gave her a powerful tool for speaking herself into the room.   In today’s episode: Struggling to identify who you really want to work with Filtering demographics vs. psychographics Headlining our professional accomplishments Problems with the zone of genius Where you should strive to take your clients Navigating complexity and uncertainty to establish links for others Learning to live with the dark side of our gifts Establishing a connection between your mind and your body   For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Throughout life, your mission should be to collect nos, because no one gets the yes that they are chasing without hitting adversity first. You can never reach that yes without those nos. Chris is a forensic accountant who has assembled, organized and led international teams who have conducted high profile forensic accounting investigations across the globe. He's transitioned into coaching and the money isn't coming as fast as he thought.
