Exploring the complex relationship between Digital Exclusion & Health Inequalities
Contact us and share your opinionEvery report, guidance and initiative directed at UK General Practice is advocating for increased use of technology and a digital first approach to accessing NHS care. These same documents also compel all levels of the system to address inequalities in health care access and outcomes. Many worry that the drive adopt technology and move access online may exclude vulnerable and disadvantaged groups who are often less able to afford, access and know how to use technology. Can this situation be reconciled? Can digital technology actually be used to address health inequalities? In the episode we discuss this challenge and draw in particular on recent digital inclusion and inequality reports:The Good Things Foundation: Building a Digital Nationhttps://www.goodthingsfoundation.org/insights/building-a-digital-nation/ The Kings Fund: Moving from exclusion to inclusion in digital health and carehttps://www.kingsfund.org.uk/publications/exclusion-inclusion-digital-health-care OFCOM: Digital Exclusion Report 2022https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0022/234364/digital-exclusion-review-2022.pdf Boost your triage skills with our dynamic 5-session live webinar course, tailored for primary care clinicians. Understanding the HealthWatch Cost of Living & Health Report
Contact us and share your opinionA recent report from the patient advocacy organisation HealthWatch, recommended that GP Surgeries should prescribe medicines available over the counter at pharmacies and supermarkets to patients based on socioeconomic need. For years the NHS has been telling practices to stop doing this due to the cost of providing a whole appointment compared to the low cost (often pennies) of widely available medicines such as paracetamol and antihistamines. We pick apart this report and it’s other recommendations here…HealthWatch Cost of Living & Health Reporthttps://www.healthwatch.co.uk/cost-living-findings Boost your triage skills with our dynamic 5-session live webinar course, tailored for primary care clinicians. Is the GMC fit for purpose and other news stories in primary care

The ARRS funding via the PCN DES is highlighting the disparity in T&C’s between the ARRS staff and practice staff T&C’s and this increasingly becoming an issue. Best wishesSuggestionsUse care coordinator funding / staff to support this work - co-ordinators / championsWe do need to think carefully about 2 tier T&C issue - can be dependent on employment arrangementsSee pharmacists leave meds ops at ICBs to join PCNs, other staff leaving roles toBoost your triage skills with our dynamic 5-session live webinar course, tailored for primary care clinicians.
