How To Rock Your Sixties with Debbie Crall
Text us a comment or question!Isn’t it funny how a moment in your life can completely change everything? We often refer to these as defining moments. In my own life I can think of several pivotal moments, times when my life completely changed its course – sometime in a positive way, and other times not so much. One of the main distinctions of a defining moment is that they create a dividing line in your life – a before and after. A defining moment can be something big and momentous – like the birth of your first child or the death of a loved one, or the first time you kissed your soulmate, or that terrible moment when you realized that divorce is inevitable. But other times it can be something much smaller, Like an offhand comment by a relative. My guest this week on the over 50 Health & wellness show is Debbie Crall. Debbie is a 64 year old author, speaker, personal trainer and nutrition coach with over 3 decades experience working with people from couch potatoes to pro athletes. Debbie has been active all her life, and as you’ll here in this interview, she isn’t about to slow down any time soon. Coach's Corner - The Problem With Carbs
Text us a comment or question! In this week’s Coaches Corner we start out with a brief discussion of how things are going with my new client Broc. If you’re not familiar, Broc is a podcaster himself – he’s the host of the Midlife Mastery podcast – and he’s hired me as a personal trainer and nutrition coach – and he suggested that we share our journey on our respective podcasts. Me from the coaches perspective and Broc from the clients perspective. Next up we take a stab at defining fitness. This came up on Broc’s podcast last week, and I’ll share my thoughts on just what it means to be truly “fit.”. From there we’ll chat for a few minutes about the problem with carbohydrates. Carbs are getting a bad rap these days, so we’ll spend some time discussing why this is and try and cut through some of the noise surrounding carbs. Then I’ll do a brief review of a great book called Finding Milo by Dr Aaron Horsch. And finally we’ll wrap up today’s episode with some take-away thoughts on last week’s podcast guests. The Art of Aging Well with Jim Owen
Text us a comment or question!I’ll pretty much tell anyone who will listen that I’m in the best shape of my life at age 57 – and I feel the best is yet to come. And to be fair I never set the bar very high earlier in my life from a fitness perspective. And if you act even just a little bit interested – maybe you’re just being polite – I’ll tell you all about how I did it and what I’ve learned along the way - and you might in fact find it difficult to shut me up. I just can’t help myself, I’m very passionate about healthy aging and I want to spread the message. And while it might be impressive to be in the best shape of your life in your fifties, what about someone in their sixties? Or maybe even in their seventies – now that would be remarkable! But what about an 80-year-old? Is it possible to be eighty and be in the best shape of your life?My guest today is James P Owen. After a successful 35 year Wall Street career, Jim found new purpose as an author, speaker and social entrepreneur. His book Cowboy Ethics has sold over 160,000 copies and is still going strong. But despite all of Jim’s successes, he found himself at 70 years old in very poor health. He was close to 50 pounds overweight and suffered from crippling back pain. Today at age 80 Jim is in the best shape of his life and has become an evangelist for healthy aging. He is the author of the book Just Move: A New Approach to Fitness After 50, and the Producer of the docu-series titled The Art of Aging Well. Weight Loss for Health with Dr. Morgan Nolte
Text us a comment or question!Does this sound familiar? You find yourself overweight – maybe 10, 20 or 30+ pounds overweight and you decide to do something about it. So you steel your resolve and you go on a diet. It’s a tough road, but you’re tougher, you’re up for the challenge. You cut out your beloved pizza and ice cream, eat more salads, and stay disciplined and on track – until finally you hit your goal weight. You congratulate yourself for having the fortitude to accomplish your goal. But then a year or so later, you somehow find yourself right back where you started… or worse yet, maybe even a little heavier than your pre-diet weight. So you start the cycle all over again. The fact is that most of us have at some point in our lives have had personal experience with the difficulties of maintaining a healthy weight. But why is that? I mean, in this day and age of such fantastic technological advancements and so much scientific knowledge, why is this so hard? We often hear experts say that it’s simple math – simply eat fewer calories than you expend and you’ll lose weight. And while that’s a great starting place, that advice has been around forever and as a population we’re becoming more overweight – not less. Despite all of the nutritional advice, tips, tricks, diets, pills, detoxes, supplements, and fads many of us are still struggling with maintaining a healthy weight. My Guest today is Dr Morgan Nolte. Dr Morgan started her professional career as a geriatric physical therapist, but in seeing that the vast majority of her patients were overweight and obese, decided she wanted to dedicate her life to helping people maintain a healthy weigh. Today Dr Morgan is a weight loss coach, an entrepreneur, and the creator and host of the Reshape Your Health podcast. And as you’ll hear in this insightful interview, Dr Morgan has a very clear and concise message on how we can combat the obesity epidemic. In this episode we are going to deep dive into the harmful effects of insulin resistance and its role in weight gain. Dr. Morgan shares her four pillars of living a low insulin lifestyle, and give us some great practical “hacks” that can help us learn how to live a lifestyle that supports a healthy body weight for the rest of your life. Midlife Mastery with Broc Edwards
Text us a comment or question! The dictionary defines mastery as “comprehensive knowledge or skill in a subject” and “control or superiority over something.” So what would it look like to have mastery over our midlife? To have comprehensive knowledge and skill, to take control of our lives as we age? My guest today on the Over 50 Health & Wellness podcast is Broc Edwards. A little over a year ago Broc turned 50, and it got him thinking – how could the second half of his life be better than the first half? What would that look like? What changes would he need to make? Or was it all downhill from here? So Broc created a podcast titled Midlife Mastery to explore these questions. Join us this week as Broc shares what he's learned on his quest to show up in in life as the best possible version of himself, and what he's learned from his podcast guests. Broc also shares his fitness journey - and what steps he's taking today to get back on track. You can connect with Broc in the following ways:Website - www.midlifemasterypodcast.comPodcast - Imperfect ActionPodcast - Midlife MasteryInstagram - @midlifemasterypodcastDownload the Over 50 Health & Wellness Show wherever you listen to podcasts or on www.silveredgefitness.com/podcast.👉 Join The Silver Edge Collective today and start building a lean, strong, healthy body you love for the rest of your life! https://go.silveredgefitness.com/silver-edge-collective
